Dr. Adams reviewed the patient’s chart before entering the exam room. Leah Cross, age thirty-four, had twelve children.

So, another frazzled housewife with a handsome, domineering husband. Dr. Adams scowled. At least they are all sets of twins, six pregnancies in probably fourteen years. Still, that would take its toll on a woman’s body.

Wrong on the handsome husband assumption, Dr. Adams thought as she shook hands with Mika Cross. She looked around for Mrs. Cross.

“My wife had to use your facilities.” Mika smiled the most amazing smile Cynthia Adams had ever seen. Hell, I’d have her babies, she thought.

Dr. Adams sat on the stool and pulled the computer keyboard closer to her. She typed in “Leah Cross” and was glad to see the patient’s folder come up. The door opened and Mika Cross proudly introduced her wife.

“Dr. Adams, this is my wife, Leah.” She smiled brilliantly.

Leah held out her hand to Dr. Adams. Cynthia had the strangest feeling she should bow and kiss the hand. She slowly raised her hand to take Leah’s hand. Leah Cross was the most beautiful woman Cynthia Adams had ever seen. Dressed in a tight-fitting skirt and a silk blouse, the woman had the body of a supermodel.

“Thank you for seeing me on such short notice.” Leah smiled.

God, she is even more beautiful when she smiles, Cynthia thought.

“I am happy to have you as a patient,” Dr. Adams mumbled. Damn secretaries, she thought, they have given me someone else’s information. There is no way this woman has given birth before. She handed Leah a paper hospital gown. “Please put this on. Open the door when you’re ready for me to come back in. Then we will get a look at the little miracle you are carrying.”

As the door closed, Leah exchanged her clothes for the scratchy hospital gown. Her own clothes hung neatly from the clothes hooks on the wall.

  Mika opened the door.

Dr. Adams stood right outside the door. “That was quick.” She exhaled.

Cynthia settled herself at the computer again. “I apologize,” she said, smiling. “I believe my staff has entered someone else’s information into your file. May I just go over some of this information with you?

“How many children have you actually birthed?” Cynthia made her question very clear.

“Twelve.” Leah smiled. “Six sets of twins. We love children.” She cast an adoring glance at her wife.

“How old were you when your first children were born?” The question wasn’t on the form; Dr. Adams just wanted to know for herself.

Leah did the math fast. “Eighteen. About every two-and-a-half years after that.”

“This frequency of inter—” Dr. Adams was cut off by Leah’s curt reply.

“Yes, that is correct,” she said tersely. “Daily.”

“If you will just lie down on the examination table, we will check out your little miracle.”

“Miracles,” Leah corrected her. “I am carrying twins, a boy and a girl.”

“Doctor,” Mika spoke softly. “My wife is having some lower back pain.”

“That is to be expected,” Dr. Adams assured her.

“She has never had any pain with our other children.” Mika frowned, concern etched into her beautiful face.

“None?” Dr. Adams raised an eyebrow. She pulled back the gown and applied the warm gel for the sonogram.

“That was nice.” Leah smiled. “My former doctor just squirted cold gel onto my stomach. It was always a shock.” Her eyes narrowed as she thought of her former doctor. He probably kept his gel in the refrigerator just to torment me, she thought.

Dr. Adams thoroughly examined Leah’s stomach as she moved the wand around. The woman’s stomach was flat and muscular. She did not have a single stretch mark.

“You have birthed six sets of twins?” Dr. Adams asked conversationally.

  “Yes.” Her patient nodded.

“You don’t have a single stretch mark.” Dr. Adams frowned slightly. Even the woman’s breasts were monuments to the perfect woman.

“Thanks to my wonderful wife.” Leah smiled, tightening her grip on Mika’s hand. “She continuously gives me massages using all kinds of creams, cocoa butter, and aloe vera.

The doctor glanced at Mika’s strong, soft hands. She shivered slightly as she thought of the hands touching, massaging…

Two strong heartbeats interrupted her fantasy. “You do have twins. Looks like a boy and a girl.” She continued to move the wand around, checking out her patient completely. “Everything looks good. If you don’t mind, I would like to do a pelvic exam.”

  Leah frowned. “I don’t think that’s necessary.”

“It will just alert me to any potential problems I might encounter during delivery. I want to see if there is anything unusual causing your back pain,” Adams encouraged her. “Mika, you might want to leave the room.”

“No,” Leah barked. “I want my wife with me at all times.”

Still holding her hand, Mika moved to stand at her wife’s head, her back to Dr. Adams and her examination.

“You are extremely remarkable,” Dr. Adams said as she removed her gloves. “Your body is in incredible shape. It appears as if you have never had a baby.”

“She exercises, eats right, and in general takes very good care of herself,” Mika volunteered. “I have never seen anyone so dedicated to staying healthy.”

“Whatever you’re doing, it is working.” The doctor smiled at Leah. “You are in exceptional condition. You are perfect. One of the babies seems to have a foot planted firmly on your bladder. That could be causing the back pain.”

“Do you see any reason why we should abstain?” Leah asked the only question to which she wanted an answer.

“No reason at all.” Dr. Adams smiled at her then glanced at Mika. “I am certain you have always known when to cease intimate relations.”

The printer spit out a synopsis of the visit and an invoice. “I would like to see you again in three months.” Dr. Adams smiled as she handed the paperwork to her new patient.

The children were swimming and having lunch on the patio when they returned. Leah changed her and Mika into their swimsuits and they joined the fun.

“Did everything go okay at the doctor’s?” Sara asked her parents as they sat at the patio table, enjoying the food Rosa had prepared. Adam and Amber joined them.

“Yes, dear.” Her mother grinned. “The doctor said I was perfect.”

“I could have told you that.” Jennifer smiled, joining them. Sara placed her hand on her wife’s thigh and smiled at her sweetly.

“Queen Mommy, watch me.” Paul sprung from the diving board and did a perfect jackknife into the pool.

“Watch me too, Queen Mommy.” Eve did a perfect duplication of her brother’s dive.

“You both are wonderful,” Leah praised her children. She smiled, watching Hannah and Mark swim the length of the pool, diving to the bottom, surfacing for air and frolicking in the water. They looked like young dolphins as they appeared and disappeared, gliding effortlessly through the water.

Regina and Matt had Athena and Luke on their backs, swimming around the pool with them.

“Where are Rachel and Jacob?” Mika asked, looking around for her dark-haired children.

“They went to pick up the floorplans and drawings for the hospital and research center,” Sara answered. “The architects and engineers said they have everything drawn to our specifications. We need to go over them as soon as we can and get back to them with any changes we may need.”

“Did they say anything about how they are coming on the church?” Mika asked.

“They are just starting on it,” Sara answered. “Rach told them she needed the research center and hospital first.”

“Of course she did.” Mika smiled. Mika knew her two oldest daughters desperately wanted the research center built as soon as possible.

“Come on, Mika, Luke and I will race you and Athena.” Adam stood and stretched.
I am betting we can outrun you in the water.”

“So now you are a water horse.” Leah grinned at Mika.

“Seahorse.” Adam laughed. “Saltwater pool, we have to be seahorses.”

“Seahorses mate for life.” Mika smiled at her wife.

The children laughed as Mika dove into the pool, followed by Adam. Within minutes, they were standing in the shallow end of the pool as the youngest twins climbed onto their backs.

“Be prepared to lose, Mika,” Adam goaded his mom.

“You start us,” Mika said to Matt. “Down and back, right.”

  Adam nodded.

At Matt’s signal, they both shot forward with the squealing babies on their backs. “Faster, Mika,” Athena screamed, kicking her mom to make her swim faster. Mika didn’t need any prodding. Her son’s challenge was enough. By the time Adam reached the end of the pool, Mika was already halfway back to the starting point. She lifted Athena high above her head and said, “Yea for Athena. She and her trusty steed have run away with the race.”

All the children and Leah swam to Mika and pulled her underwater as she handed Athena off to Matt. Mika sprang up from the deep end of the pool like a powerful great white shark. Even the older children screamed, as did her wife.

Mika bobbed in the deep end of the pool as her wife swam toward her. When Leah reached her, she wrapped her arms around Mika’s neck and her legs around Mika’s waist and floated with her. Amber and Adam joined them in the deep end.

“I’d say Mika kicked your young rear,” Leah teased her son mercilessly.

Adam blushed, grinning at his mother with that same childlike expression as Mika.

Nana came for the five-year-olds and took them into the house for a nap. The rest of the family spent the next hour playing a spirited game of water volleyball. The women always won because they played standing in the shallow end while the men had to tread water and play too.

They all sat around the large patio table, discussing their plans for tomorrow. Rachel and Jacob joined them, carrying lemonade for everyone. They laughed and talked as they dripped dry before going into the house.

“Let’s get dressed and meet back here at six for dinner,” Mika suggested. “We can go over the floorplans and discuss any problems we see.”

“That sounds great.” Adam grinned. “We have eaten everything in our house.”

“So have we.” Sara laughed. “We should probably go grocery shopping tomorrow.”

  “Good idea.” Their mother smiled.

Dinner was several pot roasts with potatoes and carrots. Rosa’s creamed spinach was to die for, and her crème caramel flan instantly became a family favorite dessert.

  CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Mika showered then studied the floorplans as her wife showered. She spotted a few small problems and marked them with a red pen. Leah entered the room, towel-drying her long, dark hair. The glorious scent of her wafted to Mika on the cool night air. Mika looked up to find Leah’s dark, sensuous eyes scrutinizing her body. Leah dropped her robe to the floor and slipped between the sheets.

Mika nibbled at Leah’s lips, kissing her softly, then a little more forcefully until Leah gripped her neck and pulled Mika into her hard. Leah ran her warm, moist tongue along Mika’s lips then slid it into her mouth, searching for Mika’s.

“You are so gorgeous,” Mika mumbled into Leah’s ear as she slid her lips from Leah’s lips to her neck, then back again as Mika decided to indulge herself in Leah’s lips. “I thought the children would never leave.” Mika kissed Leah’s lips, a long, demanding kiss. Mika pulled Leah closer, shifting her body so she was almost underneath Mika.

Mika trailed her lips down Leah’s cheek, along her beautiful jawline and down her neck. Mika watched Leah’s eyes as she covered Leah’s breasts with her hands, caressing them slowly, methodically.

Mika loved the way Leah’s brown eyes went to black with desire when she caressed her. Mika lowered her lips to one breast and began to tease it with her tongue, while she held the other nipple between her forefinger and thumb, slowly inducing it to stand erect.

Leah moaned loudly and pulled Mika’s mouth harder against her breast. “Suck harder,” she commanded. She whimpered as Mika moved to kneel between her legs.

Mika leaned back on her heels and looked at Leah. Her indescribable beauty always took Mika’s breath away.

Leah watched Mika through hooded eyes, dark with lust. “Don’t tease me,” she pleaded. “We have all night, but I need you desperately right now.”

Mika lowered her lips to Leah’s, kissing her passionately as she lowered her body to join with Leah’s. A soft cry escaped Leah’s lips, then she began to chant Mika’s name over and over as Mika moved to please her.

  ##

She lay on Mika’s shoulder, listening to her heartbeat. It amazed her that after all these years, she still made Mika’s heart pound as if it would leap from her chest.

She looked across Mika to the clock on her bedside table. It was just after midnight. “I am going for water,” Leah said softly. “Can I get you something?”

“I’ll get it for you.” Mika instantly sat up on the bed and pulled on her shorts.

“No, I didn’t tell you that so you would get it,” Leah hissed. “I wanted to do something for you.”

As Mika stood up, Leah leaped onto her back and wrapped her legs around Mika’s waist. “I want to get water for us.”

“I’ll do it.” Mika laughed as Leah wrapped her arms around Mika’s neck and bit her on the top of her shoulder.

“Ouch, that hurt.” Mika laughed. “You are going to pay for that in so many ways.”

  “Promise.” Leah giggled.

They staggered down the hall to the kitchen, laughing and bouncing off the walls. Their naked bodies enjoyed the friction their ride was creating. Although she was every inch a lady in public, Leah could be very bawdy when she was alone with Mika. “I’m not through with you.” Leah laughed. “You’re going to be my horsey again tonight, Mika. I’m going to ride you like… Oh my God, what are you doing here? Back! Horsey, back!”

Mika backed into the hallway away from the eyes of their oldest children and their spouses. Leah giggled as she dressed herself and Mika in jeans and pullovers. She slid from Mika’s back and sheepishly followed her into the kitchen.

The young adults stood mesmerized by what they had just witnessed. In all their lives, they had never seen their naked mother riding Mika.

“Uh, we were hungry.” Adam was the first to find his tongue. He gestured to the leftover pot roast and sandwiches they were making. “We thought you were asleep.”

“Do you ever sleep?” Sara asked.

Leah covered her face with both her hands as she stood behind her wife. She couldn’t recall ever being so embarrassed.

“Good,” Mika said, “we’ll join you. I have worked up an appetite too.”

Jennifer giggled. Then everyone began to laugh. “I am so sorry.” She gasped, trying to catch her breath. “I wish you could have seen your face, Leah.”

“Back, horsey, back.” Sara guffawed. “Who does that, Mom?”

“You have to admit, Mika is well trained,” Adam chortled. “She didn’t even hesitate. She’s probably had a lot of training.”

Amber hid her face in her husband’s chest as she tried to suppress the laughter welling up within her. Oh, yes, I know why she loves her, she thought.

As they joined their children around the kitchen counter, making sandwiches and pulling out other leftovers from the refrigerator, Rachel broached the subject they had all dreaded discussing with their parents.

“Mommy, Mika, we need to discuss something with you,” she said hesitantly.

Silence fell over the merry group as all the children’s faces turned toward their parents. Mika had a strong feeling this was not going to be a discussion she would like. She and Leah stared at their dark-haired daughter and waited.

“Adam, Amber, Sara, Regina, Matt, Jacob, and I all want
to make the trip to Regina Madre together,” Rachel blurted out.

Leah looked at her children in stunned silence. “You want to take half of my children and my daughter-in-law on a spaceship to another universe?” Leah closed her eyes, trying to vanquish the dread that threatened to overcome her. She had lost her oldest son and his wife to a midair plane explosion. She couldn’t bear the thought of half her children on one craft somewhere in outer space.

“No! Rachel,” she said emphatically. “No!”

“Mika,” Rachel appealed to her mom. Mika merely shook her head and took her wife’s hand.

“At least listen to us,” Adam pleaded.

“Adam and Amber want to go for archeological reasons.” Rachel rushed to explain why all of them wanted to go.

“We want to go to pilot the spacecraft,” Regina explained. “Matt doesn’t trust anyone else with that responsibility. It is our navigational system and software. If anything went wrong, we are the only ones who will know how to fix it.”

“Rachel believes the planet will support human life,” Sara added. “I need to know exactly how feasible that is.”

Leah turned to Jacob, the son that was a wonderfully beautiful combination of her and Mika. “I suppose you think they will need legal counsel in another universe.” She snorted.

“No, Mommy.” He smiled slightly at her. “But I need to be there for Rachel. We’ve always had each other’s backs.”

“What about you?” Leah turned to Jennifer.

“I’m afraid I am earthbound,” Jennifer said sadly. “Unfortunately, I don’t have the special gifts of your children.”

Mika exhaled sharply and cut Leah’s sandwich in two. She slid the plate in front of Leah. “One of the reasons we wanted you all to be here this summer was to teach you. I know that you are aware of some of your abilities, but I am not certain you know them all.

“All of you, with the exception of Jennifer, have wings.”

Jennifer glared at Amber. “Do you?”

“Yes.” The green-eyed beauty smiled sweetly.

“All of you have the ability to transport yourselves from place to place,” Mika continued.

“All of you are unbelievable forces of destruction,” Leah interjected. “We need to teach you how to use your abilities. How to control them and how to hide them.”
