“It’ll all be okay,” Simon assured her.
“And you’re sure you’re okay with Gianni paying for the wedding?” Gemma crossed the kitchen and put her arms around Simon, resting her head on his chest as she listened to his heartbeat.
“I don’t mind at all. And not because I’m cheap.” He rubbed her back soothingly. “I can think of a dozen other things we can spend money on instead. Like a hot tub.”
“A hot tub.” Gemma lifted her head and searched his face. “Are you serious?”
“Yes,” Simon answered, a little unsure. “Kiera wouldn’t be able to climb in it or anything. It would be safe.”
“I know.” She cracked a smile. “Can you imagine sitting in a hot tub on a summer’s evening looking out at the view of the mountain? Bliss.”
“Bliss.” He lowered his head and nuzzled her neck. “I have something we need to add to the list.”
His hands slid down her body and caressed her curves. The fluttering in her stomach evolved into something else, something more demanding. “I don’t think we have time to add it to the list.” Gemma took his hand and pulled Simon out of the kitchen, their coffee forgotten, as they went upstairs to the bedroom they shared with Kiera.
Soon their daughter would move into her own room. A room Simon had lovingly decorated for her. Pink and white, with a hand-drawn mural on one wall, depicting the mountains that their sweet child would grow up exploring. Small fluffy bunny rabbits ate tufts of grass while colorful birds flew across the sky. And peeking out from behind a tree was a wolf. Simon’s wolf.
Most young girls would grow up to love ponies and dream of unicorns, but their daughter would grow up with a wolf as her best friend and protector. How blessed she was to have a daddy who loved her so much, even though she was not his biological child.
But the room lay empty at present. For now, both Gemma and Simon enjoyed having the little girl close. They loved to hear her breathing as she slept, while the sweet gurgling noises she made as she kicked her legs in her crib, were like the sweetest music. They both intended to make the most of every precious minute they shared with a child neither of them expected to have in their lives.
It was funny how things never worked out exactly as expected.
Simon kissed Gemma, pulling her close as his fingers worked to undo the buttons of her shirt. This was their time. No baby to watch over, not fear of interruption. Just two people. Fated mates.
With a sigh of contentment, Gemma unbuckled Simon’s belt and pushed his pants down over his thighs. He stepped out of them, while she unbuttoned his shirt and pushed it off his shoulders, her eyes eager to see him naked.
“You are magnificent.” She trailed her fingers down his chest, a smattering of silver hairs tickling her fingertips.
“Thank you.” There was no arrogance in his reply. He was as fit and toned as a man half his age. “And you are delicious.”
He kissed her neck, breathing in her scent as his lips moved lower, his tongue licking the swell of her breasts, his touch exciting her until her knees were weak, and her body ached for him. Gemma reached out and placed her hand on the bed, lowering herself down onto the mattress, before extended her hand out to Simon. He took it and she pulled him toward her but he paused and slipped his hand out of hers.
“The rest of your clothes have to go.” His eyes flashed, dark with longing, but crackling with something deeper, something unfathomable. As he peeled her clothes from the lower half of her body, she shivered in response. He owned her, body and soul. They were linked together by an unbreakable bond. And as he lay down by her side, his fingers unclasping her bra, she felt it, an invisible link binding them for eternity.
Simon pulled the covers over them, creating their own private space, a cocoon protecting them from the outside world, as he hovered over her body. He kissed her as he guided himself into her. She gasped, the friction between their bodies overwhelming. With each touch of his fingers and movement of his body, he excited her, aroused her and she wanted to give into it and drown in the sensations he evoked. Her nerve endings tingled, the hair on her arms raised, all wanting to experience a connection with him.
Gemma changed the angle of her body as Simon slid deeper inside her, filling her. Raising her knees, she arched her back, and he thrust forward, hard, burying himself inside her. He lay still, his breathing ragged as he fought for control. He needed her, needed to claim her, needed to please her.
“I love you, Simon.” She kissed his face, his lips, trailing soft kisses down his neck.
Simon brushed his fingers across her skin. “I love you. In so many ways. I always wanted a wife, but you have brought so much more into my life. I’m truly blessed.”
“I never believed in miracles. Not until I found out I was pregnant with Kiera, against all odds. Then to find you...” She pulled back from him, her head resting on the pillows as she looked at his handsome face. Weathered and worn by life, just like her own. They had experienced so much in the short time they had been together.
He began to move inside her, small gentle movements at first, then stronger, harder. He pulled out of her, before thrusting his strong powerful hips forward, impaling her on his hardened length. As they rose toward their climax together, Gemma hoped they would have one more miracle, a brother or a sister for Kiera.
As Simon filled her with his essence, Gemma’s orgasm swept over her. Their cries of pleasure mingling together as they came.
Lying next to Simon, wrapped in his embrace in the afterglow of their lovemaking, Gemma listened to his heartbeat. She smiled, a secret smile, filled with love for the new life she had found. The breaking of her past had seemed so terrible, the loss of all she’d worked for unbearable. But here she was, reborn.
The wolf wanted a wife. And this woman truly wanted a wolf.
