The Blackened Soul Page 17

by Candace Osmond

“Set a course. Let’s get to England,” I told him.

He nodded and headed off. Lottie and Gus went belowdecks to check on the boys. Henry stood at my side, unwavering, like an extension of my own body.

“God, I love you,” he told me.

I smiled happily and rested my head against his chest as we turned and looked out toward to coming horizon. “And I you.”

The magic of the bracelet gave me no other confirmation that my wish came true. I imagined the invisible tether that bound The Black Soul to that island breaking and the ship sailing out to the horizon. Silently, I hoped Benjamin was okay. That he was happy. Maybe he’d come and find me one day to say thank you and set my mind at ease.

  Only time would tell.
