“I think we’ve established that you can be a fool sometimes,” she replied.

“Yup, but not right now. Right now I’m excited. I already love being a father. I’m going to love being a father a second time just as much.”

She swiped at a tear sliding down her cheek and he wrapped his arms around her. When she leaned into his embrace he closed his eyes, reveling in the feel of her in his arms.

“I love you,” he murmured into her hair. “I may be a fool sometimes, but that will never change.”

“That you love me? Or that you’re an occasional fool?”

He smiled. “Definitely that I love you but more likely both.”

“Then it’s a good thing I love you back too much to mind.”

They sat like that for a while, a simple closeness that meant so much to him, and he realized how much he wanted Millie to have his child. This was a gift from God.

“Once the baby is born,” she said, “I’m sure my father will want to come and visit to meet his grandchild.”

He buried his face in her neck with a groan as she giggled. “Did you really have to ruin the moment?”

“Maybe he’ll grow to like you, once he sees how happy I am and falls in love with the grandchild you’re giving him.”

  “Do you really think that?”

There were a few seconds of contemplation before she replied. “No, not at all.”

And she burst into laughter as he groaned again.

  Dear Reader

Thank you for reading The Judge’s Daughter and I hope you enjoyed George and Millie’s story. I’d be ever so grateful (ridiculously so, in fact) if you would take a moment to leave a review on AMAZON. Reviews are very important to writers like me and they really do help other readers find my books.

Next in the series is one I know many of you have been waiting for – Courting Will, the story of Will Raine, who we met way back in book two, A Hope Unseen. With his wild past, Will is convinced he could never be a good husband or father. But a young widow is determined to change his mind. You can find Courting Will HERE. And we also catch up on how Sara and Daniel are doing!

The prequel novella The Blacksmith’s Heart is free for newsletter subscribers. To get your free book and never miss a new release, sign up here - http://eepurl.com/b-Gj2T. You will receive emails with news and exclusive stuff once a month.

If you’re wondering what happens with George and Millie’s baby, he or she will be making appearances in future books in the Escape to the West series, so stick with me! But in case you’re worried, Millie comes through the birth just fine, although George is a wreck for the entire process!

  Bible Verses

These are the verses referred to in The Judge’s Daughter, quoted from the New International Version (NIV) translation.

Chapter 1 – My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourself and become judges with evil thoughts? James 2:1-4

Chapter 5 – Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that? James 2:15-16

Chapter 5 – Like clouds and wind without rain is the man who boasts of gifts never given. Proverbs 25:14

Chapter 8 – The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 1Samuel 16:7

Chapter 9 – If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. Luke 6:29

Chapter 11 – The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them. Psalm 34:7
