Maki pinned Sophia to her bed. Her lips rested on the other woman’s ear.

“And that’s how I plan to seduce Clyde.”

“Oah!” Sophia nodded approvingly. She moved Maki to the side and sat up. “You know, my old life sucked compared to this one.”

“I try not to think about my past,” Maki said then laughed. “It’s behind me. In just a couple of months, I’ve seen and experienced a lot. Built character. Did labor for the first time ever. Maybe I was just lucky that they were willing to give me a second chance.”

  Sophia nodded.

“I was a new recruit for the other side. Along with the other recruits, we spent most of our time cleaning a temple. Even a supposed prodigy like me couldn’t escape that. The cloaked sisters planned to teach us all kinds of nonsense about the Viper.”

  Maki held out a hand.

“Let’s show them that we’re not worthless burdens.”

  Sophia accepted it.

  “Damn right!”

“And you shall commit seppuku if you fail in this.”

The women nearly leapt out of their skins at the sound of Ako’s voice.

“Stop proposing that already,” Maki said. “No one’s offing themselves.”

  Ako shrugged.

“I suppose I can’t expect everyone to understand the meaning of honor.”

  Maki sighed.

  “We’re all crazy.”
