“He really likes the job. He loves the hustle and bustle of a bigger city.” It was true. I ripped off the top of the M&M box and sprinkled them over the warm, buttery popcorn.
“He works a few days in a row but gets the weekends off.” I grinned from ear-to-ear. “I like that.”
“Isn’t that going to change soon with the new hours the town council approved?” Jolee dug her hands into my popcorn, pulling out a fistful. She dropped a bunch of kernels, trying to stuff them in her mouth.
Luke Jones had given up. He got the ladder out of the closet and started to thumbtack up the old king bedsheet.
“And the religion thing?” Her brows furrowed.
“We’ve not discussed that. One thing at a time.” The lights went out and I eased down into the metal chair, propping my feet on the one in front of me.
The sound of seagulls and the wave of the ocean beat against the rocks came through the speakers as Danny kissed Sandy under the sunset. I couldn’t help but smile. Finn was my Danny. And he was the one I wanted no matter what city we lived in.
