Lean Into It (Kings of Vengeance MC Book 2) Page 16

by Winter Travers

  No one knew…

  Dyno

“He took her, Quinn. I never should have let her go to the bar alone,” Kimber cried. “I didn’t think she was in danger.”

Petra draped her arm over Kimber’s shoulders and pulled her close. “No one could have known this was going to happen, Kimber. They’re going to find her.”

They were going to find her, and I hoped to God it wasn’t going to be too late.

It hadn’t taken long for police to figure out Kent had been the one to kidnap her, and not long after that, they figured out his name wasn’t Kent. The bartender had remembered seeing Fancy with the guy in the dating app Fancy had on her phone, but when they tried to search his name, they came up with nothing.

They knew what he looked like, but that was about it. The police were trying to get any information they could about the guy from the app, but there wasn’t a ton there.

It had been six hours since Kimber had called Quinn screaming about Fancy being kidnapped.

Six of the longest hours of my life.

I now knew exactly how Quinn had felt when Kimber had been kidnapped a few weeks ago. Time stood still, and it felt like I couldn’t breathe.

I hadn’t breathed in six hours.

Core shot into the common room and shouted, “Every officer in the county was just dispatched to Kingston road. It’s all over the scanner.”

I lifted my head from my hands. “Fancy?”

Core nodded. “It has to be. I don’t know what else would need a response for every available officer.”

I jumped up from the couch and pulled my keys from my pocket.

“Wait,” Quinn called. “I’ll drive you there.”

I didn’t care how I got there, as long as it happened now.

Everyone moved at once, but Quinn yelled for everyone to stop.

Quinn ordered Kimber and Petra to stay at the clubhouse with the rest of the guys while Quinn took me to what was hopefully Fancy on Kingston street.

Kimber instantly protested but Quinn silenced her with the slice of his glare. She whimpered under his gaze but didn’t protest.

“Don’t let either of the girls out of your sight. I want two sets of eyes on each of them at all times,” Quinn barked as we marched out the front door.

When we got in the truck, he put the key in the ignition but didn’t turn it over. “We don’t know what we’re going to walk into, brother. We don’t know if he—”

I sliced my hand through the air. We didn’t know a fucking damn thing other than they might have found Fancy. “Don’t. Just fucking drive.”

  She may be alive.

  She may be raped.

She may be hanging on to life.

  She may be dead.

Every possible scenario rolled through my head while Quinn drove. I didn’t know, though. I couldn’t get caught up in the maybes. I had to focus on the fact that they had hopefully found her.

By the time we made it to Kingston, the street was blocked off and there was a heavy police presence.

Quinn parked the truck as close to the barricade as he could, and we jumped out.

Past the barricade, about seven houses down from where we were police were surrounding a house. Quinn moved to talk to one of the police officers, but I kept my eyes trained on the cop cars further down the road. A crowd was starting to gather around us, everyone wanting to know what was happening on a normally quiet street in Marion.

Evil had lived on Kingston street, and no one even knew.

  At least, not until today.

  Fancy

After I dove back onto the floor where I had been lying, the sound of keys in the lock rattled, but then a miracle happened. Sirens sounded in the distance.

“Son of a bitch!” Kent shouted on the other side of the door.

I held my breath, waiting for him to barge into the basement and kill me before the police came. Waiting for him to kill me before I got the chance to tell Kimber that she was my best friend and I was sorry for every time I rolled my eyes and called her crazy.

Before I got the chance to tell Quinn that even though I called him a big, bad biker, that I thought he was one of the best guys I knew.

And also, before I got the chance to tell Dyno that even though he was the exact opposite of what I thought I wanted, that he was exactly what I needed.

I needed Dyno, and he was never going to know.

Seconds came and seconds went, but Kent never came back into the basement.

The sirens grew louder, and then, it was silent.

  Everything happened at once.

The door to the basement exploded open, five police officers with their guns drawn piled in, and I squeezed my eyes shut.

  They found me.

“Over here,” one of the men shouted. He kneeled next to me. I rolled onto my back. “Fancy?” he barked.

I nodded, unable to speak. Tears clogged my throat, and I closed my eyes.

They had found me, but where was Kent?

  Chapter Twenty-Six

  Good at one thing…

  Dyno

“We’ve got all of the information we need from her. She really doesn’t know much about the guy.” The officer who had been questioning Fancy for the past half an hour nodded to Quinn and me. “If there does happen to be something she remembers later, make sure to call us.”

The officer handed me his card and disappeared down the hallway.

Quinn raised an eyebrow at me. “You really gonna call him if Fancy remembers anything?”

I tucked the business card in my pocket. “Don’t know.”

If Fancy happened to remember anything that could help lead to Kent, or whatever his name was, I didn’t know what I would do. If that time came, I would decide then.

I ducked back into Fancy’s hospital room and sat down in the chair next to the bed.

“Can I go home now?” she asked me.

She had asked me the same exact question for the past two hours, and I still had the same answer. “I don’t know.”

Fancy sighed heavily. “I just want to go home, Dyno. I don’t want to be here anymore.”

Her words were desperate, and I wanted nothing more than to give her what she wanted. She clasped my hand, and I leaned closer to the bed.

  “Soon, baby.”

I couldn’t imagine that they were going to keep her here much longer, but I didn’t really know the protocol on being kidnapped and then rescued by the police.

“Dyno,” she whispered. Tears were in her eyes, and her bottom lip trembled. “I’m sorry about all of this.”

I brushed her hair back from her face. “Don’t cry, baby.”

“He’s still out there,” she choked out. “He’s still out there.”

He was, but not for long.

  Vengeance coursed through my veins.

And the Kings of Vengeance were good at one thing.

  Revenge.

  Chapter Twenty-Seven

  I missed… him.

  Fancy

“He hasn’t touched me, Kimber.” I sighed heavily and plopped down on the couch.

“It’s only been a couple of days, Fancy. I think he’s pretty shook up.” She patted my leg and pasted a smile on her face. “Just give it time.”

Time for what, I wanted to know.

Dyno walked into the common room, and his eyes instantly went to me. “I thought you were going to rest?”

I shrugged and fought the urge to run into his arms. “A girl can only sleep so much.”

He nodded and frowned. “I need to go out for a while.”

  “Oh.”

Dyno had been going out a lot the past couple of days but I didn’t know where or why. He was never home when I went to bed, but I woke up with him beside me every morning. Never touching me, but he was right there next to me.

“Core and Point will be here.”

  I nodded but didn’t kno
w what to say. I could feel something in the air. Something was going to happen tonight, and I wasn’t sure Dyno was going to come back to me. I catapulted myself off the couch and crashed into his arms

  I had missed this.

I had missed his arms around me.

  I had missed him.

Even being in the same room, I missed him.

Something had changed since I was released from the hospital, but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was that had turned off the light in Dyno’s eyes.

“Come back to me,” I whispered.

His arm wrapped around me, and he held me tight. “Stay close to Kimber. I’ll be back when I can.” His arm loosened, and he stepped back. “Get some rest.”

Quinn pulled Kimber into a hug and whispered in her ear.

Zephyr, Sledge, and Rhino filed out the door behind Quinn and Dyno.

“And then, there was just us,” I laughed flatly.

Kimber put her arm around my shoulder. “Just like it used to be.” She squeezed my shoulder and guided us toward the kitchen. “How about we get drunk and make a cake?”

“Is that what you’re supposed to do when it feels like your heart is breaking?” I sniffled and wiped my nose with the back of my hand.

  “Oh, Fancy,” she sighed.

I dropped into one of the chairs around the table in the kitchen and sighed. “I don’t know what to do, Kimber. I’m losing him and I don’t know why.”

She grabbed a bottle of wine from the fridge and set it on the table in front of me. “You’re not losing him.”

“Then what else would you call it?”

She grabbed the bottle opener from the drawer and grabbed to glasses. “I think you’ve got him completely.”

I grabbed the opener and jabbed it into the cork. “Then why isn’t he here?” I whispered.

  Chapter Twenty-Eight

  Vengeance is mine…

  Dyno

  “This is the place?”

Zephyr nodded. “This is it. Rhino and I scoped it out earlier today. He’s in there.”

“And we know this how?” Quinn asked.

Rhino stood next to me with a smug look on his face. “Been watching Kevin’s work. This guy, Malcom Dean, hasn’t been to work since good ol’ Kevin tried to kill your ol’ lady.”

“And yet, the police say they have no idea where Kevin is.” I shook my head and rested my hand on the butt of my gun.

Quinn clapped me on the shoulder. “I’d say we have personal motivation to find this asshole.”

Rhino glanced at me. “Cops are starting to sniff around all of the people he worked with. I’m guessing they’ll be onto Malcom Dean by the end of the day.”

And by the end of the day, Kevin Krump, also known as Kent, would be dead.

I narrowed my eyes on the house. “This is all me. If you guys don’t want to go in there, I’ll get it.”

This asshole had hurt Fancy, and he was going to pay for it. It wasn’t club business; it was personal. If the club didn’t want to back me up, they didn’t have to.

Quinn cleared his throat. “You were there for me and Kimber when I needed you, Dyno. You don’t even have to ask me to help. I’m here every step of the way.”

  Rhino, Zephyr, and Sledge agreed.

We were a club and a brotherhood. The Kings of Vengeance had my back, no matter what.

Zephyr and Sledge moved to the back of the house; Rhino moved to the side, and Quinn stayed with me at the front door.

“Too bad we don’t get to blow this shit up,” Quinn laughed.

I pulled my gun from my waistband and moved to the side of the door. “Didn’t really have time to plan this one like we did for Kimber.”

Quinn shrugged and moved to the other side of the door. “There’s always next time, right?”

“We making this a normal occurrence now?” I glanced over my shoulder and checked to make sure there wasn’t any movement in the window.

“Not exactly, but it’s nice to know if we ever need to blow something up, that we have the right crew to do it.”

The walkie talkie on my belt crackled, and Zephyr’s voice sounded. “Ready in the back.”

  “Side is secure,” Rhino followed.

Quinn’s eyes connected with mine. “You ready?”

“Vengeance is mine, brother.” I gave a slight nod.

Quinn moved in front of the door. He gave a strong and quick kick to the door, and it burst open.

I moved into the house, my gun drawn. “I’m home, Kevin,” I shouted.

The back door exploded open, and Zephyr and Sledge walked through with their guns drawn.

“Got ‘em!” Rhino shouted from the side of the house.

We all moved toward the sound of Rhino’s voice. The door was closed, and I nodded to Zephyr. He kicked the door open, and I cautiously stepped through to see Kevin with one leg out the window and Rhino on the outside with his gun pointed at his head.

Rhino glanced through the window and smiled. “Kevin was trying to leave without saying goodbye.”

Sledge stepped around me and grabbed Kevin by the neck. “Now that isn’t very nice of you. We went to all this trouble to track you down.”

Sledge spun him around, and pure rage spread through my veins. Sledge knocked him off his feet and onto his knees.

Rhino climbed through the open window and slid it shut. “Fuck basically fell into my arms.”

Quinn moved to the right and Zephyr to his left.

  “Where’s Malcom?” Quinn asked.

Kevin laughed and shook his head.

“Check the rest of the house,” Quinn barked at Rhino.

Rhino was gone all of thirty seconds ‘til he shouted from the second floor. “Dead in the closet.”

Jesus Christ. Here I had been thinking Malcom had been helping Kevin.

Rhino jogged down the stairs. “Looks like he was strangled. Rest of the house is clear.”

Kevin stared blankly at me. “He had to die.”

I moved closer to him. “Had to die?” I growled. “Just like the five other women you killed? They had to die, too?”

Kevin nodded. “They didn’t deserve to live. The lives they were living were not up to the standard of God.”

Quinn took a step closer to Kevin. “Did he just say God?”

“That’s what it sounded like,” Sledge chuckled. “Gotta think that killing women really isn’t up to the standard of God either.”

Kevin tipped his head back and smiled. “I was doing his work. The filth and smut of the world needs to be wiped out.”

This guy was wacked in the fucking head. “So you’d meet these women online, decide for yourself if they were pure or evil, and dispose of them if they were bad. Is that right?” I asked.

“They’re all evil,” Kevin growled. “All women are evil.”

“I don’t think Kevin has been hanging out with the right woman,” Zephyr chuckled.

“Why those streets? What made you drop their bodies there?” I demanded.

“That’s where the filth is. Where the hookers and crack addicts thrive. Every street in this godforsaken town was going to have a dead body on it. The whores belong in the gutter or with the trash. It’s where they belonged.” Kevin smiled wide. “She was supposed to be Plume, but you changed that. Now, she needs to be Madison.”

Quinn glanced at me. “This guy is talking like he actually thinks he’s going to keep killing.” He shook his head. “Poor idiot has no idea what is coming his way.”

“Oh,” Rhino called. “Can we kill him and say it was God telling us to do it?”

Sledge chuckled. “Pretty sure God wouldn’t mind us wiping this scum off the face of the earth.”

“If you kill me, God will just find someone.” Kevin glanced around the room. “He’ll find another child of God to do his bidding.”

“I’m pretty sure your God and my God are completely different,” Quinn growled.

  Kevin spit at Q
uinn. “My God is the only God.”

Rhino cringed. “That was not a smart move, my man.”

Quinn’s eyes connected with mine. “Kill this fucker before I do.”

  I stepped toward Kevin.

His attention turned back to me. “So you’re the one the slut dumped me for.”

I crouched down and was face to face with him. “She was never yours. She’s always been mine.”

Fancy had spilled the whole story about meeting Kevin/Kent online, but she had never met him ‘til he had kidnapped her from the bowling alley. When Fancy had tried to hook Kent up with Petra, she had given him the perfect opportunity to try to finish out the plans he had for her.

“How does it feel to have a slut? She’s not going to stay with you. She’s going to take what she wants from you and then—”

Sledge smashed Kevin on the back of his head with his gun. “You talk too fucking much,” he spat.

Kevin fell to his hands and knees and laughed. Sledge pressed his foot to his head and held him down.

Oh yeah, this fucker was straight-up crazy. The only way you laughed after getting hit upside the head was if you were crazy.

“I talk for God. I talk the truth,” he shouted.

I slowly stood up and clicked off the safety on my gun. Sledge stepped firmly on his head, smushing his mouth into the hardwood floor.

“You speak no truth. You know no God.” I pointed my gun at him and scowled. “You touched my woman, and you took lives that weren’t yours to take. The only truth you’re going to know is death.” I squeezed the trigger and fired three shots square into Kevin’s back. “My truth is vengeance,” I growled.

I squeezed trigger two more times and watched the life drain from Kevin and pool at my feet.

Quinn stepped forward and spit on his face.

“Told him he was going to regret spitting on you,” Rhino mumbled.

Sledge moved his foot from Kevin’s head. “Blowing him up would have been much cleaner,” he muttered. “Blood spatter is a bitch to get out of jeans.”

“I’ll buy you a new pair.” I walked out of the house without a backward glance.
