Kelsey leans against my chest with a heaving sigh as we listen to our little girl explain to her baby brother how wonderful life as a Hardick will be—using so many words.
I kiss the top of Kelsey’s head and smooth my hands down her arms.
Her blue eyes sparkle as she gazes up at me. “You know, we might be glad if Carter takes as long to talk as Clarissa did. Two of them going at it like that all day long, might get a little wearing.”
I give her an exaggerated frown. “Hey, now. Don’t talk like that about my daughter.”
Kelsey pinches my arm. “Just because you adopted her doesn’t mean she isn’t still mine too. I’m just saying—”
I lay my finger over her lips. “Shush, wench, or I’ll have to make you walk my plank.”
“In that case, kiss me.” She turns in my arms so I can close my mouth over hers.
I pull back after a moment. “You never have to tell me to kiss you, Beautiful Girl. I’m always going to want to kiss you. Always.”
