And Soon Comes the Darkness Page 17

by Angelique Archer

“Go to hell, Patrick. It’s not funny.”

“Come on; we’re both going to benefit from this.”

Cora froze, her brain laser-focused and electric with… something.

She quickly squatted down next to the bag on the ground beside Marisa. When she found her laptop, she pulled it out and set it on her desk.

“Are you seriously mad at me, Cora?”

She ignored him and plugged the power adapter into the port on the side.

  “Cora?”

“I’ll call you later. Clean this mess up, Patrick. I need to write.”

The screen whirred to life, too slow for her liking. Her fingers twitched centimeters above the keyboard, itching to type.

She pulled up the last manuscript she’d been working on and began clicking away on the keys, smearing blood across them unintentionally, but not caring in the slightest.

Cora’s lips turned up subtly at the corners.

Her well was replenished; she was inspired once more.

  But for how long?
