She smiles. “You may be right. I’m not sure. I know they were different as a couple to what I’m used to seeing. I don’t know what kind of a pact they had or what their vows were to each other.”
One thing fated mates do is to vow something between them. For me and Sophia, it was simple—we stay with each other no matter what. That’s why my life, except for rare occasions, is now in the neutral zone, the same for Sophia. Up until now, her community thought she was dead. I’m sure Lilandra will tell them all the truth. “How do you feel about your coven and the rest of them knowing about us?”
She gives me a fast kiss. “None of that matters anymore. You’re my priority, you and these missions to have the life we want. It’s how it should have been and how it will be. I hate that people can’t love someone outside their own species. You don’t have a choice when it comes to your fated mate.”
One thing I love about her is her passion. Being a fire element witch, she becomes explosive with her emotions. I know she loves me with all her soul and body, as I love her. No one could replace her. “I know, mate.” I kiss her knuckles. “We will succeed. We have the Lady and her group, and our rebellion is growing. More and more are wanting to join us. They are in the same position as we are.”
She strokes my chest. My wounds are healed and I smirk at her. “You got something on your mind?”
She grins and her lazy fingers weave a pattern closer to my dick. “Well, I’m wondering what we can do to pass the time until nightfall.”
I hiss. “You’re way overdressed.”
“Healing you was more important than dressing you.”
She stands and removes her t-shirt and jeans. She’s not wearing anything underneath and my dick grows harder at the sight of her naked body.
“Your wolf got your tongue?” she teases.
She’s gorgeous with her long, curly red hair. She’s far more sophisticated compared to me. But I don’t care, she belongs to me for the rest of our lives. I grab her hand, pulling her down and kissing her hard. I want to brand her, to let the rest of the world know she belongs to me. She giggles.
“I love you, Sophia my mate.”
I don’t give her a chance to reply. I want her to show me with her body which she does.
We make love all day and leave when Jeremy joins us.
Chapter Eighteen
Lilandra
“I see you’ve bought it back.”
I turn at the sound of the Librarian’s voice. “It’s good to see you again, Librarian. I see he’s still following you.”
She makes a disgusted face. “Don’t mind him.”
I show her the Seal, the jewels in it shining brightly.
“Yes, you’re right, it’s beautiful.”
“Oh, I didn’t realize I spoke out loud.”
She chuckles. “It happens. Don’t worry, I can’t read minds. I leave that to my cousin.”
I give her the Seal, and she puts it in a small wooden box. “Do you know why they wanted it?”
I sigh. “I’m not totally sure, but according to my research, the obvious reason is to control demons. I’m guessing the person behind this is becoming impatient. We’ve retrieved several magical artifacts they want and that puts a stop, or at least slows down, their plan or project. They seem to be after a rebellion. I need to speak with Casey about it. We need more information.”
The Librarian nods. “I know that everyone at Paranormal University has their hands full now as well.”
I frown. “What do you mean?”
“You don’t know?” I shake my head at her question. “I had news from one of my cousins. The one that’s a combined telepath and empath. She’s there right now. She arrived a couple of weeks ago and it seems they’ve got a demon that’s hunting down and killing magical people. The university called in the Special Operations Team from the SIA to help them.”
“Wow. I heard something was happening at the university, but I didn’t know it was that bad. The SIA has to be spread pretty thin at the moment, with the operations team there and the rest of them helping the other major factions.”
“Do you think it’s related?”
I think. “Maybe, but until we know more, we can’t assume anything.”
“But do you think it’s the same group giving the university problems and that’s why they wanted the Seal? To control other demons?”
I look at the box and consider my reply. Until I’ve spoken to the SIA and Casey, I don’t want to mention the Lady. “Possibly, but as I said, until we know more, it’s hard to say. The only thing I do know is something big is coming and we need to be prepared.”
The Librarian nods at me. “Yes, and that’s why I’m needed in the field and not stuck in that dusty and dirty office.” I hear someone snarl.
“I see.” I want to laugh, her werewolf bodyguard doesn’t seem to approve of that idea. But I know she’ll try anyway, and that’s why she has him. “I’ll leave you with the Seal and we’ll catch up again soon.”
With that I head to my room. I need rest and as Juniper isn’t here I can have some time out before I get another call.
Finally back in my apartment, I prepare myself a hot bath. The calls have been coming so fast, I’m sure it won’t be long before I get another one
Stepping inside the bath, I sink into the water. I’m not a water element, but I can feel the energy starting to replenish me. As I use magic energy to create weapons to help my missions, it takes a lot out of me, but I can regenerate through any kind of element.
After some time, I step out of the bath and dry my hair. I look at myself. I was tempted by that offer. I don’t want to think about it. I put on my pjs and head to bed and lie there looking at the ceiling. It’s been more than a decade since I lost my mate, I thought everything was hidden deep inside me but I was wrong.
Halloween Eve’s is in a couple of days and I hope Juniper is doing OK. This is a hard time of year for her. She never wanted the others to know about her mother’s gift. It’s unusual and she’s possibly the only witch that has that ability. Usually, she stays inside her room on Halloween. Celestia normally stays with her, but as she’s on a mission, it could complicate things if she loses control like she has in the past.
I close my eyes and use a small sleep spell to help me fall asleep. I don’t want to think of him. I don’t want to relive it. I don’t want to have dreams of him tonight.
Lilandra!
I walk around, searching in the darkness.
Lilandra!
That call again, but it’s not a magical object.
“Baby, please wake up!”
That voice, rich and with a broad accent. I know that voice, I know who it is.
“Lilandra, baby. It is time.”
I want to talk but I can’t.
“You will see me again soon, I promise.”
On that I wake and sit up, breathless. Why now? It is because of the gift I was offered? I know it’s impossible to bring someone to life without a body and it’s been so long since he died.
An electric shock passes through me. Another call. I get an image. “No, that’s impossible. It was lost.”
The image flashes through my mind again and again. That ring, that fucking ring that cost my mate his life. It’s back and is calling to me again to save it.
Why now? It’s saying something is wrong and it wants to be found. Could this be related to my dream and my dead mate telling me we will see each other soon?
It’s a chance to finish what I wasn’t able to before. I really wish Juniper was here. Another jolt goes through me, and the word Scotland appears. That’s where Juniper was headed for her mission, and I know she hasn’t come back.
In three days, it will be Halloween. The ring has been used, but wrongly, and it wants out. I really have no choice.
I need to succeed in my mission this time. For Juniper, for my mate, and for my salvation. I need that ring, and I need it now. It’s the only way I’ll be able to give my mate peace, an
d maybe after that I will be able to contact him if he wants it. I’d hoped he could forget me. I wish I could go back ten years, make things different, change my decisions and his. It’s impossible though, we can’t go back in time, just as we can’t bring back dead people, not without paying a price I don’t want to pay.
The key to magic is balance, and it always asks for something in return. My body shakes, then jolts again. It really wants me to find it. I will succeed, even if it means putting my life on the line, I will win.
I prepare myself. I take out an old picture in a frame hidden under my bed. I destroyed most of them, but I couldn’t destroy this one. I touch it and sadness washes over me. After that day, I never cried, and I won’t start now. After all this is over, I may let myself drown in my sorrow but until then it’s impossible. My priority is that ring and I need to steal it back.
I touch the picture again and memories come alive inside my head. The way he smells, his touch, and his kiss. It was perfect inside his arms, and I haven’t felt that since.
I leave the picture on my bed and head out. I need to cast my teleport circle and focus on the ring. One way or another, I will have it back, and those who took it will die, because without that original call, my mate would still be alive.

Enjoyed this book? You can make a big difference
Reviews are the most powerful tool in my arsenal when it comes to getting attention for my books. Much as I’d like to, I don’t have the financial muscle of a New York publisher. I can’t take-out full-page ads in the newspaper or put posters on the subway.
(Not yet, anyway)
But I do have something much more powerful and effective than that, and it’s something that those publishers would kill to get their hands on—A committed and loyal bunch of readers.
Honest reviews of my books help bring them to the attention of other readers.
If you’ve enjoyed this book, I would be very grateful if you could spend just five minutes leaving
a review (it can be as short as you like) of the books on any platform you download it.
Thank you very much.
