to the compound to undertake the task of convincing his colleagues and the world to adopt his new system of telling time. When he was ready, he gathered his belongings in one hand, cradled Norman with the other, took a deep breath and used rapid transport to go back to the compound.
Every year on Norman’s birthday as the world ushered in the start of a new year, Oscar returned to his lonely cottage. He would look out at the vast rolling hills surrounding him and he would spend all morning blanketing the landscape with flowers before returning to the compound. Though Oscar would return to the cottage whenever he needed some time alone this was the only day of the year in which he felt driven to plant flowers.
More than 600 years later, Oscar would return to the cottage one final time. This time he returned not as the omnipotent creator of Cerebes, but as a feeble, old mortal man. He took one last look upon the land and marveled at his work. The land as far as he could see was blanketed with bright, colorful flowers. The visual proved to be too much to take in as Oscar dropped to his knees and started crying.
Sometime later after Oscar collected himself he went inside the cottage, sat at his desk and started to write a letter. When he finished he retrieved an old, empty bottle in the corner, rolled the letter up and placed in it the bottle before sealing it with a cork.
Oscar hobbled outside with the bottle in hand and went to the head of Greta’s grave. He dug a small hole with his hands and buried the bottle in the hole. After covering the hole Oscar looked up at the clear, blue sky above and took one last deep breath before collapsing amongst the vast, lonely field of flowers.
