Severance Page 25

by Fergal F. Nally

“Agathe you were in there all night. They brought you out the next morning. Your face was so pale. You’ve been unconscious for two days, this is the third day. Your colour has slowly returned. How do you feel?” Ossian’s concerned face hovered close to hers.

She examined his features drinking him in. She read every line, every hair, every whisker of his beard. And his eyes. She let his eyes wash over her and she felt alive again. She felt the healing within. She knew she was cleansed, free of the vampire curse. Who would have thought?

“My love, I’m whole again,” her voice was a mere murmur but echoed loudly in Ossian’s heart. He beamed at his beloved.

Ossian gripped her hand tightly and spoke. “I’ve something to show you, my love.” He picked her up tenderly in his arms and carried her outside laying her down on a blanket of fur.

She looked up at the night sky and saw all her ancestors’ hearths burning brightly. Her face lit up and she looked at Ossian.

He pointed. “Look over there.” His finger indicated a new star twinkling in the night sky.

Agathe gazed at the spot. Recognition flooded her spirit, her being, her body.

  “Father.”

Tears welled up in her eyes. She was at peace. Her war was finally over.
