Chloe nodded. “Feels odd, doing it back to front. We both lived the part after the crash, but are only now discovering what led up to it.”

Damian nodded. “If Captain McGregor had not been flying with a new first officer…”

Chloe: “And President Zumweski’s mistress not found she was pregnant…

Damian: “…I’d still be nattering to people like Morgan in my Wheatley surgery….”

Chloe: “….And I’d be grappling with births, marriages and deaths for the Oxford Herald.”

“Chaos theory,” said the ex Prime Minister. “A butterfly flapping its wings in the Caribbean creates a storm in China.”

  THE END

NOTE: It’s rare for an airliner to run out of fuel, but it can happen, most recently in 2016 in Colombia, when 71 people died. That same year there were over one hundred “low fuel” incidents and eleven fuel “Maydays”, the call a pilot will only make in extremis. Running out of fuel over central London is unlikely but possible.
