I lift the microphone. “Raegan Donahue, you are without a doubt the love of my life. They say everything happens for a reason, and I believe it. For the past three years, you’ve made me the happiest man in the world. Your beauty drew me to you, but it was your intelligent mind, your quick wit, and your larger-than-life heart that enraptured me. I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else. And that’s why, in front of your family and friends, I’m asking you …”
I drop down on one knee and open the blue velvet box that started this whole thing.
Raegan’s hands fly to her mouth, her watery eyes wide.
“Raegan, will you let me love you forever and be my wife?”
The room is silent, awaiting her response. I took a chance proposing to Raegan with the ring that nearly ended us a few years ago, but it just felt right. So I trusted my gut. It has never steered me wrong.
After several painful seconds tick by, Raegan nods. “Yes,” she whispers, tears streaming down her beautiful face. “Yes, of course I’ll marry you!”
I spring to my feet and wrap my arms around her, spinning her in a circle while the room erupts in cheers.
She pulls my face to hers and lays a soft kiss on my lips. “You know, I wouldn’t’ve said yes if you’d proposed with any other ring.”
I laugh. “I couldn’t picture you wearing anything else.”
The ring thief might not have stolen the ring after all, but she did steal my heart.
