Huntress Page 25

The Order wouldn’t be finding their little den any time soon.

The door swung open and Orth peered out impatiently. Seeing Tah, he waved him forward and backed up to give the male room to enter. Tah slapped his tail playfully against Gund as he hurried forward with his armload.

Turning his head to the lead, Orth grinned. “We are fully stocked. Well, as good as it is going to get this year. Enough to keep us comfortable, anyway. Next year, I will be certain to prepare many hides to fill it with comforts. Our rya deserves every comfort,” he added.

Heidi laughed. “Nice. Very nice. You are so getting your dick sucked tonight.”

The male winked his left eyes and disappeared within. Gund hesitated by her side, his eyes slanting down to look at her. “Are you certain you will be happy here, rya? We will not have the comforts that you are accustomed to in the human communities, nor those you have enjoyed among the Atlavans. Can you be happy in our den? It is going to be a long winter.”

Heidi smiled, her fingers stroking through his fur. Such a worrier.

“I am sure, Gund. Yes, the Citadel had some nice things that I will miss—I am not going to lie. And I am going to have Beni smuggle me some of those things as soon as I can. Truthfully though, humans are loud and dirty, and we stink. I have had a lifetime of stepping around piss in the poor district while tracking targets, hearing the screams and cries of those who are preyed upon,” she said. She took a deep breath, her head tilting to the side. “No. I think a quiet life out here with my three wonderful mates is exactly what I need and want. As for the Atlavans, if I get antsy, I will just go visit Chivi.”

She discovered that she had many things in common with the female, and they had spent much of the summer and early fall enjoying each other’s company. It was an easy task sending a signal to Levanth. He was on the lookout for his own mate these days, and so always kept an eye on the horizon. She wished him luck. He deserved one, and Randik really could use a naughty female to help him get the pole out of his ass. Just her opinion, of course.

Gund let out a breath and leaned down to nuzzle her, closing his large arms around her as he ducked through the door, leading her into her new home. Their new home. As she stepped over the threshold, Heidi beamed, knowing that the past was swept away and she was truly stepping into her new life.
