Straddling my hips, he gestured for my hand. The ring slipped effortlessly over my knuckle, proving something I otherwise might never have believed.

Sometimes reality really was better than fantasy.

This book started out with an invitation. An invitation to a secluded island by a super handsome fella that slid into my DMs.

It was accompanied by an unsolicited pic of his genitalia.

  I’m just kidding.

Got your attention, though, didn’t I? Ha!

This book DID start with an invite, though. An invitation to join an anthology called Spring Fling. It asked for a short story about a fling or a one-night stand. So I wrote “Overboard.” And “Overboard” turned into Mr. Fantasy. The problem with me is that I have a hard time writing just a short story. The beginning of this book, “The Fantasy,” originally titled “Overboard,” ended with Nora going back home after spring break.

I was supposed to move on to another full-length novel. You know, something I actually had plans to write.

Nope. My brain doesn’t work that way.

I’d really been struggling with writing, coming up with inspiration, and generally liking anything I actually typed out. Once I wrote the short story, I kept coming back to Nora and Carter and what happened after she went home. I just felt like their story wasn’t over yet.

So “The Reality” was born. And both of them together (the fantasy and the reality) created this book.

I had fun writing this one because I felt like there weren’t many rules. Maybe because of the “fantasy” aspect, I felt I could get away with more. Or maybe my mutinous brain just overruled everything else. Either way, it was fun and a good escape from reality and from all the other words I was supposed to be writing.

I won’t say this book is “different” from what I normally write, because I feel like I say that all the time. And really, I just write what I feel like writing, so is there really a normal? LOL.

I hope you enjoyed Carter and Nora, and I also hope this book was a great distraction from your everyday reality and it brought you a little fun fantasy.

I want to give a shout-out to my editor, Cassie McCown (Gathering Leaves Editing), for putting up with my ADD and just going with the flow for what I write. Also, for not killing me when I emailed to say, “Hey, you know that short you edited for me for that anthology? Well, I’m using it for a full-length, and now I have to write a new short that needs edited… and I need it like ASAP.” So thank you for being a super editor!

Oh, PS: the short story I wrote to replace “Overboard” is titled “Cake by the Ocean,” and you can find it in the Spring Fling Anthology online.

As usual, thanks to all the readers (you!) for all your support! If you enjoyed Mr. Fantasy, please consider leaving a review, telling a friend, and posting about it online. Word of mouth helps authors!

  See you next book!

  XOXO,
