Burn for Me Page 16

by Lea Coll

“Have I told you how much I love this slit in your dress? It was the best tease all night. I kept wondering what color underwear you had on and if I’d get to find out.”

Oh, he was going to find out. I wouldn’t stop this. He’d opened himself up to me and I wanted to be closer to him in every way I possibly could. Suddenly I wanted nothing between us. I fumbled trying to unbutton his shirt.

His placed his hand over mine to still my progress. “Are you sure?”

With his hand covering mine, I looked into his eyes. “Never been surer of anything.” I wanted to experience this—even if it ended in disaster.

He shrugged off his shirt and my hands went immediately to his chest, feeling the warmth of his skin and the ridges of his muscles as I moved my hands down over his abs.

“As much as I love this dress. I want it off.” He sat back on his heels on the couch.

“There’s a zipper on the side.” I pointed to it and his hands quickly found it, sliding it down. I moved off the couch to shimmy it off until it fell in a pool by my feet. I stepped out of it and stood, suddenly self-conscious in a green satin thong, the cool air causing my nipples to pucker. I flashed back to the last few times I was with Greg and how I couldn’t stay in the moment to enjoy it, to reach an orgasm, and how frustrating it was. Each time, my anxiety grew and Greg felt like it was his fault. I tried to shake off the feeling of dread. “I couldn’t exactly wear a bra with this dress.”

“And thank God for that.” His eyes took me in. “You are more beautiful than I imagined.”

Back in the moment, I asked, “So, you’ve imagined this?” My voice sounded husky even to my ears. I took a few steps back toward my bedroom to see if he’d follow me.

“I have. Every night since we started working together. You have no idea how hard it is to watch you run in those tight pants and not touch you.” His voice lowered as he stood and stalked toward me. “You have no idea what you do to me.”

Shivering at his words and the intensity of his gaze, I said, “I’d like to found out.” I’d never felt like a seductress before until now, with Logan. He made me feel sexy.

He growled when he reached me, picked me up, my legs instinctively wrapping around his waist. His tux pants felt rough on my bare legs, the hair on his chest teasing my nipples. Each sensation aroused me more. He kissed me as he carried me to my bedroom, placing me gently down on my bed. “I want to go slow, but I’ve wanted this for too long.” He kicked off his pants and boxers, his cock already hard.

My mouth watered, I couldn’t stop myself from reaching out to grip him in my hands, as I pumped him a few times. “If I’d known this was waiting for me, I’d have stopped running a long time ago.”

He placed his knee on the bed, causing me to lean back as he hovered over me. “You were so worth the wait.”

Then my breath caught as his mouth went over my nipple, the sensation shooting to my core, and I arched into him, seeking, searching for more. It was everything I wanted, but not enough.

He lifted his head to kiss me as his hand traveled up my side to my breast. He kneaded, his thumb rubbing my nipple until I had to break away from his mouth. Then he sucked my nipple into his mouth, playing with it until all I could think about was his touch and the throb between my legs.

He tugged my panties down and off, a finger circling my clit, and one slipping inside me. I bit my lip, my mind on my past experiences with Greg when I couldn’t stay in the moment.

Sensing my hesitation, Logan lowered himself so he was laying on his side next to me, his mouth by my ear. “Let go gorgeous. Come for me.” I closed my eyes, listening to his voice in my ear whispering encouragement until the only thing I was aware of were his fingers sliding inside me, the palm of his hand rubbing my clit, the need continuing to build. I opened my legs wider, gripped the blankets beneath my fingers, and lifted my hips, seeking more. He lifted his head to watch me, making me hotter, as the orgasm finally barreled through me, causing aftershocks, and bliss.

Then he kissed me on the lips and murmured, “That was beautiful.”

Tears stung my eyes from the way he brought me back in the moment, so my only thoughts were him, his touch, his breath on my ear, his words settling over me.

The cold air hit my body as Logan grabbed his pants to get a condom. I held my hand out for him, desperate to have him back, covering me, inside me. “Logan, I need you.”

He quickly slid the condom on, knelt between my legs, and braced his hands on either side of my shoulders. His cock teased my entrance. “You want me?”

“Yes, yes, yes.” His words reminded me of the dream I had of him, commanding and so hot. I was not above begging at this point. I was crazy about him. “Now, Logan,”

He entered me slowly, inch by inch, creating a delicious stretch as I adjusted. I hadn’t been with anyone since Greg. My nails glided up his back, willing him to move, and then he did in long firm strokes.

I savored the feeling of him filling me up as he leaned down to kiss me. His back taut with restraint, he pulled out to the tip and slowly thrust inside me over and over until the sensation of another orgasm built. The second orgasm slammed into me, stronger than before. When I came down from the high of my orgasm, I ran my fingers through his hair at his temple, then down his back, gripping his ass, pulling him tighter to me. I never felt closer to anyone as he picked up the pace until he groaned his release, burying his head in the crook of my neck.

He placed soft kisses below my ear and then lifted his head to see my face. “Oh my God, Ashley. I have no words.”

I couldn’t help the satisfied smile forming on my face. My hand went to the side of his face as I looked into his eyes, knowing we both felt the same thing.

He kissed me once more. Then he moved to take care of the condom.

I stretched my arms above my head and he stilled on his way back from the bathroom.

“Like what you see?” I asked.

He climbed into bed and placed his hand on my stomach, pulling me flush against him. “Yes, but I’m afraid I’m never going to get enough of you.”

He nuzzled his face in my hair. His words and his touch felt so good, but a part of me still worried he would get tired of me and move on to another woman. In the end, I wasn’t enough for Greg. Why would it be different with Logan?

I WOKE UP SLOWLY THE next morning feeling heat at my back; contentment filled me. Then everything came rushing back to me—Logan in a tux, telling me about his dad, making love to me.

“Awake?” Logan rumbled into my ear, running his nose up and down the shell of my ear. I shivered at the sensation and turned in his arms, enjoying the feel of his naked body next to mine.

He brushed my hair over my shoulder as his hand traveled down my side in a sweet caress. “I could get used to this. You, warm and compliant in bed.”

“Compliant?” I leaned closer and bit his shoulder softly, then kissed the spot.

In a low voice, he said, “Never mind. I like when you’re noncompliant.”

I smiled enjoying the reaction I’d gotten out of him. “That’s what I thought. I’d love to stay in bed all day, but we have to work.”

He groaned as he fell onto his back, his forearm covering his eyes, and I propped myself up on my elbow next to him. “Ugh. Why’d you have to mention work?”

  “It’s our reality for now.”

He kissed me, then got up to go to the bathroom.

I lay back on the bed when I heard Logan turn on the shower, remembering the night before and how amazing it was. It was almost like a dream. He made me feel sexy. He was in tune with my needs. He was a potent combination of charming, sweet, caring, yet confident and sexy in bed. I closed my eyes, having no energy to get up and join him in the shower.

When the door finally opened, Logan stood with droplets of water glistening on his chest and a towel wrapped around his waist, interrupting my thoughts. “Take your time getting ready. I’ll make breakfast.”

  I raised
my eyebrow at him as he placed a knee on the bed and leaned forward to kiss me thoroughly. I wanted to tug on the towel that hung loosely at his waist. Trace the droplets of water as they glided down his chest, his abs—

Logan groaned. “I’d love to continue this, but we have to go to work.”

  “I know.”

“Get up,” he urged tugging on the tuxedo pants he wore last night and nothing else.

“Ugh, alright.” I took my time showering and getting dressed. Going to work this morning would bring us out of the cocoon we’d created last night.

By the time I made it to the kitchen, I could smell brewed coffee and Logan had stacked waffles on a plate in the middle of the island. “Wow.”

“You had a waffle maker and pancake mix, but no eggs or bacon. I did the best with what I had.”

“I barely eat here, so I don’t have much.” I shrugged. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to him. He worked the same grueling schedule.

“Well, if I’m going to keep staying over, we’ll need to go shopping. Now eat, I want to see Bailey before we head to work.”

Warmth spread through my chest at his words and I couldn’t stop the huge smile on my face. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d truly felt happy. Last night, this morning, it was perfect. “Thank you.”

  “For?”

“Breakfast.” Suddenly shy, I said softer, “Last night—being you.” I was referring to how he took care of me the night before. He made sure I enjoyed everything. He was sensitive and caring. Not two words I would ever have used to describe Logan before these last few months. Getting to know him was like slowly unwrapping a present you didn’t know you wanted. By the time I got to the inside, it was the most incredible feeling. I wish I’d gotten a peek sooner, but at the same time, the wait was so worth it.

He turned me on the stool until I faced him, stepping between my legs, my face in his hands, and said, “You’re welcome, gorgeous.” Then he kissed me, encouraging me to open and sliding his tongue inside my mouth, exploring, claiming, making me his. I wanted to be his more than anything. I wanted to say he was mine—my boyfriend, my everything.

We drove together to pick up Bailey from Emma and Luke.

“Working today?” Emma asked when we arrived, a knowing smile on her face when she took in Logan still wearing his clothes from last night, white button-down shirt untucked over his tuxedo pants. Bailey jumped on me as soon as Emma opened the storm door.

“Hey, buddy,” Logan said, pulling Bailey off of me and scratching his ears.

“Yeah.” Normally we’d go to the farmers’ market on Sunday morning, but we’d slept until eleven somehow, and between breakfast and picking up Bailey, we didn’t have time for anything else.

When I clipped Bailey’s leash onto his collar, Emma whispered, “I want all of the details later.”

Logan took the leash from me to walk Bailey outside to pee before putting him into his truck. Luke followed him out, talking about the night before.

I would normally be excited to go over some of the details with friends, but I felt a warm glow from the previous night and I was reluctant to talk about it with anyone. It was special and all ours for now.

  “Ready Ashley?” Logan called.

“Let’s get together soon,” Emma said.

“Sure.” As I walked toward Logan, his eyes met mine, a contented smile on his lips. An evening out, a lazy morning in bed, waffles for breakfast, and picking up Bailey—it felt like we were a couple. It felt good—too good. And I knew the feeling couldn’t last.

“HEY, GORGEOUS.” LOGAN LEANED AGAINST my door frame later that day holding two coffee cups.

“For me?” I asked, not letting on that his nickname caused a tingle to go through my whole body. “I could get used to this.” I walked around the desk to take it from him.

“Me too.” He leaned down, brushing his lips across mine.

“Logan!” I whispered, pulling back. “We can’t. Not here.”

“No one could see. I’m standing inside your office.” He leaned back into the hallway to look around.

“If they walked by they could,” I said. “Do you want them to know we’re together? If one of us makes partner, we can’t date.”

His face turned serious and he caressed my face. “I know. I want to go back to when you were sweet and agreeable in bed. And not worried about everything.”

“Ha! Don’t get used to it. I’m the same person I was yesterday.” But was I? Everything had changed and I didn’t know if I could go back to the way things were before.

“Don’t worry; I like feisty Ashley too.” He winked and left.

Was this the way it felt to be loved for all of you—the good and the bad? I shook my head, trying to be reasonable. We were just in the honeymoon period, experiencing the aftermath of amazing sex. That’s all this was. The reality was that we couldn’t be together. Not while we worked for Gunner.

I sighed looking at the stack of work waiting for me. I’d much rather stay in bed with Logan all day. After a slow start, I was able to get my cases prepped for the week and was reviewing deposition transcripts when Logan asked later that afternoon, “Are you ready to go?”

I checked the computer clock, confused. “At four?”

“It’s Sunday. I checked—all the partners are gone. It’s finally warm out. I figured we could take Bailey for a walk through town and eat outside.”

I smiled. A second date? Just him and me? “That does sound nice.” Walking out, I noticed Sadie still working at her desk.

“Hey, Sadie, staying long?” I didn’t like leaving her here by herself.

She looked up briefly then back at her computer. “Yeah, I’ve got a brief due for Charles.”

“Okay, don’t stay too late,” I said.

  She nodded. “See you.”

Outside, I asked, “Have you ever not seen Sadie working when you’ve been here on the weekend?” Yet Sadie had applied for a position at Kristen’s dance studio. How would she have the time?

  “No.”

“Have we underestimated her because she’s younger and less experienced than us?” I couldn’t imagine working longer hours than we were.

“She’s missing during the day sometimes. You only notice how early she gets to the office and how late she leaves, but there are many times she has nothing on her calendar and she’s not in her office.”

Between her applying for a second job and being missing during the workday I was curious about what she was hiding. “I don’t know whether to be impressed or concerned that you’ve been keeping tabs on her.”

“I told you, I like to know my competition. They haven’t even told us what the requirements are to get this alleged position or what will happen to us if we don’t. It’s a mind-fuck.”

“Is sleeping with a co-worker considered getting to know the competition?” I smiled to show him I was teasing, but I was curious. How far would Logan go? Last night felt like the real deal, but I could never tell. I thought Greg was, too.

We’d come to a stop by his truck. “No. I would never do that.” His hand on the side of my face, he said, “I’d never do that to you. This is real for me, Ashley.”

All I could do was nod because I wasn’t sure I could speak without the emotion overwhelming me, affecting my voice. He was saying all of the right things.

He kissed me briefly and opened his passenger side door to place his briefcase inside. “I’m going to go home and change. I’ll meet you at your place in an hour.”

I smiled to myself as I walked the short distance to my apartment. It felt great to leave the office a little early and to have a date planned. That’s what this was, right? A date. He’d asked me to dinner and he told me this was real.

Any fears he’d treat us as a one-night stand were gone. Everything he’d done in the last few days made me feel special. It made me feel like we could be in a relationship—be happy. That everything could work out.

I greeted Bailey when I came in.
My phone buzzed with Emma’s message requesting a girls’ night to get all of the details. I suggested tomorrow night even though I knew she meant tonight. I only felt a little guilty about that. How often did I have plans with a man? They’d understand. By the time I’d changed into leggings and a sweatshirt, Logan was ringing my doorbell. Bailey jumped at the door like he knew who our visitor was.

“Hey,” I said, opening the door as Bailey launched himself at him.

“Hey, Bailey-boy. I’m excited to see you, too, but no jumping, okay?”

“I see you’re really firm with him right now.” I smiled as I closed the door behind him.

“Yeah, now you know I’m soft.”

I was beginning to think he was a softy in general.

“You ready to go for a walk?” he asked, grabbing the leash off the hook on the wall.

I groaned as Bailey started circling us and nipping our heels. “You had to say that word, didn’t you? We’re going for a walk now whether we’re ready or not.”

We walked through town and to the waterfront where construction had just begun on the marina and the park. We sat down on a bench by the water.

“This is nice,” Logan said, placing an arm on the bench behind me and I leaned into him, resting my head on his shoulder.

“It’s so nice not to be at work right now.” I wanted more moments like this. Bailey sniffed the ground and I could hear the clink of the masts of the sailboats and the flags flapping in the wind. I resisted the urge to ask what we were doing. Had he intended to sleep with me last night? Did he regret it? He was with me now and I didn’t want to ruin this seemingly effortless moment with relationship talk. I would be in the moment for once—no plans, no schedule, no worries, no doubts.

We sat quietly, watching the water lap onto the shore as the wind picked up.

  He rose. “Hungry?”

“Yes, I haven’t eaten since those waffles this morning.”

“Those were good waffles,” he said grinning.
