Nikki rolled her eyes and kissed her teeth. From out of nowhere, she felt the intense pressure of a hand moving at a high rate of speed and colliding with her face. She looked up with tears in her eyes and one hand holding the side of her face that had just been assaulted.
“I don’t know what the fuck your problem is with my damn daughter, and I personally don’t give one good fuck. When you took it upon yourself to take away my baby’s sight that the good Lord gave her, you fucked up royally, heifer. I knew you were always jealous of those girls, but for the life of me, I never understood why. Those girls were nothing but good to your ass, and this is what you do. Sleeping with any man that’s interested in them, and now this. I don’t understand what the hell happened to make you act like this,” Laura, Lawrynn’s mother fussed.
Nikki looked around the room to see that no one was going to interfere when she was being hurt once again. Shaking her head, Nikki fought back the urge to hit her auntie back.
“I’ve never been jealous of your goodie-goodie daughters. You’re damn right I fucked all their boyfriends. I’m so damn good at it that I got a baby out of the deal. I shouldn’t be shocked that y’all are running to her rescue. Well, it’s too fucking late. The bitch should change her last name to Wonder from what I heard,” she said with a smirk.
“How in the hell did you get to be so evil?” Auntie La-La asked her.
“When you’re used and abused by family and nobody cares, that’s what happens, I guess. Y’all fake asses didn’t care then, so don’t care now,” she said.
“Who the fuck abused you?” Auntie Laura asked with her face balled up.
Nikki looked at her aunties and wondered why they never fought for her like this. No matter what happened in her life, they always just kept on living when it came to Nikki.
“LJ and Lamelle, get y’all asses in here,” Laura called out.
“What up, Mama?” Lamelle asked.
“Do you know anything about Nikki being abused when y’all were younger or ever?” Laura asked her sons.
“Hell nah, Ma. Why? What she say?” LJ asked.
“Who the hell abused you, Nikki?” Auntie La-La asked, this time standing to her feet.
Nikki could feel a headache coming on with all the stares she received. She tried to fight the tears, but she couldn’t anymore.
“Spit that shit out, man. Stop with all the bullshit,” LJ barked at her.
“All those damn summers I went to my dad’s side of the family. Um… umm, my cousins pimped me out to their friends and anyone else who had money!” she yelled.
“Damn,” Lamelle said.
“That’s fucked up,” LJ added, shaking his head.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Auntie La-La asked.
“Y’all weren’t worried about me. Why even bother now? You only wanna know because Lawrynn’s ass is gonna need a seeing eye dog now. If that bitch wasn’t blind, y’all wouldn’t be questioning me about shit,” Nikki argued.
“What the fuck my sister got to do with them niggas pimping your ass out? This shit ain’t making no sense. You should’ve been attacking them two, not my fucking sister,” LJ argued.
“If they would’ve come with me, then things would’ve been different,” Nikki said.
“Wasn’t nobody gonna let they child just go to some stranger’s house for the whole fucking summer. How the fuck does that shit sound? You can’t blame them, though. You couldn’t get back at the ones who did that shit to you, so you chose the only two people who were more like sisters to you before all that happened. Those girls loved you like a sister, and this is the shit you do. How do you get somebody back for some shit they don’t even know about? Nah, hell nah, you did all this shit because you wanted to. Them niggas still wherever they at, living their best lives, smiling and shit, and you down here with a pussy larger than a damn football stadium. You’re not gonna put that shit on my people,” LJ said.
“Stop yelling, LJ. She’s been through enough,” Laura told her son.
“Her?” he asked, looking at his mama. “I think something is wrong with all y’all. She’s been literally fucking this family up for years, and you’re here trying to play Dr. Phil and shit. I’m not saying that what she went through wasn’t traumatic or nothing, but my sister being blind don’t change what them niggas did. She was out here being a hoe because she wanted to. Nobody here was selling her pussy, so why she acting like we did something to her ass? We’re the only ones who have been here for her in all of this shit. She’s stayed with all of us at one point in time but still trying to fuck everybody’s man, friend, or whatever nigga she can find with a hard dick. My sister ain’t cause none of this shit on her. She did all that on her own, with her hoe ass,” LJ said.
“You don’t understand, LJ,” Nikki pleaded with tears running down her face. Hearing him explain things to her like that made her feel worse about the things she had done over the years. “I wanted them to hurt like I hurt,” she said.
“Since ya nasty ass cousins down south sold your pussy, you go out and fuck all your cousins’ boyfriends, all our friends, shit even ya daddy’s friends. Yeah, that’s some sweet ass revenge right there. Stupid bitches. Man, I tell ya,” LJ fussed.
He was irritated by the whole situation. In his eyes, Nikki should’ve stayed her ass right where she was.
“You need to get some counseling, baby,” Aunt La-La said.
“The prison system got some good counselors and shit like that from what I heard. Damn, Nikki, I guess that means you should name ya baby Tupac because you damn sure gonna have that baby in jail,” Lamelle said with a smirk on his face.
“Y’all need to stop being hard on her like this,” Laura told her sons, shaking her head.
She still saw her niece as a scared little girl. The reality of it was that she was a grown woman and accountable for her actions.
“Ma, you never bought me that Tonka truck I wanted, so I’mma go steal one tomorrow,” Lamelle said with a smile.
“How is that gonna help? That don’t even make no sense,” she fussed.
“Just like her fucking everybody here is some kind of get back at some cousin none of us know or even knew about. Y’all keep falling for this bullshit if you want to. I call a spade a damn spade, and her ass is fucking reaching with that fucked up explanation. If y’all done talking, I can take her ass back to where I got her from. At least all my hoes know that they’re hoes because they want to be,” LJ said, looking at Nikki.
“Fuck you, LJ. Your ass ain’t perfect either,” she said between sniffles.
“I ain’t never say I was perfect, bitch. Everything I do is because I fucking wanted to. You ain’t never heard about me blaming somebody else for my shit. Talk that shit to them motherfuckers down south, not me. You ain’t nothing but a hoe with accountability issues. You need to go find them and hold them accountable for the shit they did. Just like ya pussy needs to hold you accountable for all the damn miles it has on it,” LJ fussed. He was tired of this whole fucking scene. His sister was all fucked up, and here Nikki was trying to play the victim.
Nikki started to feel hot and sweaty. LJ was all in her face as if he wanted a kiss or something. She tried to back away from him, but everything went black. She hit her head on the table just before she hit the floor.
“Oh shit,” Lamelle said, bending over to see if Nikki was still breathing. “She’s still breathing, but we gotta get her to the hospital,” he said and scooped her limp body off the floor.
“LJ, help him get her to the car,” Laura told her son.
“Ma, fuck her,” LJ replied, only to get hit in the back of the head.
“Regardless of what she’s done, she’s still family, jackass. You need to keep that same energy when them child support orders start rolling in. Truth be told, we’re all at fault for her being the way she is. We should’ve seen something wasn’t right with her when she came back. That’s what her real problem is. I’m sure there’s more to it than that little bi
t she just said. You’re gonna help her get to the car because if you don’t, we’re gonna have to call an ambulance for you and her,” Laura said as she eyeballed her son.
Knowing his mother wasn’t bluffing, he helped his brother like she told him to. He knew he was in for a long day because this was going to get way more interesting than it already was.
Chapter 24
Pain walked into Lawrynn’s hospital room to see Murder sitting beside her just watching her sleep. He could not only see the love, but he felt it in the air.
Murder looked up to see Pain just standing there looking at him.
“You good?” Murder asked.
“Yeah, umm, I was just coming to check on y’all. You look like you haven’t left this motherfucker at all,” Pain said softly. He didn’t want to wake Lawrynn up, being that she looked so peaceful.
“Nah, not since last night. Nell and Allen’s ass are goin on a date tonight, so I told her I was gonna sit up here. You know it takes females all fucking day to get ready for any damn thing,” Murder said with a smirk. “Have you talked to Nikki lately?”
“Fuck no. I don’t need to talk to her ass either. It’s gonna be hard as fuck for me to keep my hands off her after this shit. I don’t know what the fuck she was thinking. What the fuck was she trying to prove by doing this shit?” Pain said.
Pain couldn’t understand why Nikki would take shit this far. He had already told her to fall back from trying to get with Murder. The only thing on her mind should have been having a healthy baby. He regretted fucking with Nikki more and more every day. Shit was getting hectic, and it was all because of her.
“That’s ya baby mama, man. You gotta talk to her ass,” Murder told him.
“Man, I just wanna wring her neck. I just wanna tell you that no matter what goes down, we’re always gonna be brothers. I know you might be tired of hearing it, but you’re the better man for Lawrynn. I was never faithful to her. I damn sure never catered to her ass like you do. I never thought that you would settle down, but it looks good on ya, man. Take care of her heart, though. I don’t know how much more bullshit she’ll be able to take. Just don’t fuck up like I did. She’s a great ass woman,” Pain told Murder.
“I respect everything you just said. Don’t worry, I got her from here on out, that’s for damn sure. Just make sure you standing next to me when the time comes, my nigga,” Murder told him.
“Yo, you serious?” Pain asked.
“Hell yeah, seeing her like this fucked me up on so many levels. I don’t even want her to go to her spot when she gets out of here. My chest feels like it’s closing every time I look at her. I could never leave her. I don’t care if she gets her sight back or not. I’m in love with her and only her. I haven’t entertained another chick since Law Baby and I first talked. I put all their asses on my block list. I never thought I’d see the day when I settled down, but it’s here, nigga. I’m gonna wait ’til she does her physical therapy and all that other shit, but I’m marrying her ass sho’ nuff,” Murder told Pain.
Pain realized that Murder was serious as a heart attack. There was a quick knock on the door then it slowly opened. Uncle Jimmy and Mrs. Ella walked in. Mrs. Ella was carrying a bag of food, of course.
“I knew I put the extra plate in here for somebody. I came up here to tell y’all that Nikki got bailed out this morning. Judging by the way she slow walked her ass out the doors, I don’t think she’s happy about it. The paperwork says that LJ bailed her out. I hope he didn’t bail her out just to kill her ass,” Mrs. Ella said.
Pain and Murder were half way listening to what she was saying, but they were wondering how the hell those two ended up together.
“How the hell y’all end up walking in here together? Do y’all know each other?” Murder asked.
“Not yet. We just met on the elevator. I noticed that she was going to the same floor I was going to. When I let her out first, I was simply walking to the room. I was surprised when she opened this door,” Uncle Jimmy answered.
“He held the door open for me being that my hands were full. Sir, you have an accent, you’re not from around here, are you?” Mrs. Ella asked.
“No, I’m from Kingston, Jamaica. Murder is my nephew,” he answered.
“Oh yeah? Well, let me get out of here. I’ll call you boys if I find out anything else,” Mrs. Ella said before leaving out of the room with Uncle Jimmy’s eyes focused on the sway of her hips.
As soon as the door closed, the men all looked at each other.
“Looks like I’ll be staying here a little longer nephew,” Uncle Jimmy said with a smile.
The door was pushed open again. This time, it was Lawrynn’s brother, LJ.
“Yo, Pain, they got Nikki’s ass downstairs. She fell and hit her head. She was unconscious when we brought her in. My mama told me to try to get in contact with you to let you know,” LJ said.
Pain rose to his feet and rushed out of the room with LJ behind him.
“Damn, it’s never a dull day around this motherfucker, huh?” Uncle Jimmy said with a smile.
Chapter 25
Allen and Nell were finally on a date. Allen had picked her up from the hospital where she had been constantly for the past three days. It was Lawrynn’s idea for her to go on the date with Allen in the first place. After she forced Nell out of the hospital, here they were. They ended up at a hole in the wall club that was small but out of the way enough that a lot of people weren’t there yet. It was a great atmosphere for them to just sit and talk.
“Are you still working too hard for the money you’re getting paid?” he asked.
“I work hard because I love what I do. The pay has nothing to do with it,” she told him.
“Yeah, okay. You working at that youth center because you know those little boys want to sit there and crush on your beautiful ass,” he said and laughed.
“I’m there with them because I know they have the potential to be something great one day. Living in the hood is not a guarantee to be nothing but drug dealers and baby mamas,” she told him.
“Sounds like bullshit to me. You know those little boys are in there trying to rub up against you and shit,” Allen said and laughed. “I’m just fucking with you. Being a youth counselor isn’t easy. I commend you for doing it and going hard at it like you do,” he told her.
Allen wasn’t lying. He thought what she did took a big person to do. He could never talk to people’s kids and try to guide them to do a damn thing. He was sure that she had a positive effect on all the kids there and not just the boys.
“Why haven’t you tried to get with anybody else since we broke up?” Nell wondered.
“We didn’t break up. You kicked my ass to the curb quick as fuck. I didn’t get with anybody else because they weren’t you, plain and simple,” he told her.
“Stop saying it like that. I did what I thought was right,” she whined.
“Come dance with me?” he asked.
Allen took Nell’s hand and led her to the floor. He pulled her close as they swayed back and forth and held on to her with just the right amount of pressure. He didn’t want to hold her too tight because then his dick would get hard. Although he felt like she was the one, he knew they weren’t fucking tonight.
“I think the song is about to stop,” she whispered.
“So? We’re gonna keep dancing until I say we’re done,” he told her.
“Well, alrighty then,” she said.
They slow danced for two more songs. Allen didn’t care if they were fast or slow. They stayed just like they were, swaying slowly back and forth.
“I have to go to the bathroom and call Lawrynn to check on her,” Nell said.
“Okay. While you go do that, I’ll get us some more drinks,” Allen told her.
Nell went in the bathroom with her phone in her hand and dialed Lawrynn’s number. She bumped into some female as she walked in.
“Oh, excuse me,” she said without bothering to look up.
“N
ah, bitch, there ain’t no excuse me and you’re out there with my man,” she heard the girl say.
Nell looked up to see who the girl was talking to so fast that she didn’t hear Lawrynn answer the phone.
“Who the hell are you talking to?” she asked as she looked up, only to be hit in the face with the lid of the toilet tank.
Nell was dazed for a few minutes then she gathered herself. She charged the girl and hit her in the face.
Allen saw that there was a commotion back where the bathrooms were, so he rushed to see what was going on. There was a crowd of people for him to get through. He didn’t think there were this many people in the club, but there damn sure were a lot in the hallway.
“Move the fuck out of the way, nosey motherfuckers,” he yelled.
He got to the bathroom to see Nell fighting some chick. He couldn’t see who the chick was. Seeing all the blood and the broken toilet lid on the floor, he hoped that Nell wasn’t hurt too bad. Once he separated the two women, he saw that the girl Nell was fighting was indeed this chick he used to fuck with for a while.
“Deshanna, what the hell are you doing here?” Allen asked.
“Oh, you know this bitch, Allen? She told me to stay away from her man. I guess she was talking about you. All that talk about you not fucking my cousin, I know why now. You had this bitch in the cut somewhere,” Nell went off.
“You need to calm down before you pass out. You’re covered in blood. That can’t be good, shorty,” Allen said, trying to reach out to help Nell.
“Fuck you and this bitch,” Nell tried to say before she hit the floor.
Lawrynn listened to the commotion on the phone with her mouth open and tears in her eyes. She yelled out in a deep, emotional cry. Murder immediately rose to his feet and looked around, to try to find out what the hell was going on. He saw Lawrynn crying and trying to dial a number on her phone.
“What the hell is going on? What the fuck wrong with you?” he barked.
“Baby, you have to find out where Allen and Nell went. I was just on the phone with her, and something bad happened. It sounded like someone was fighting with her. Baby, you have to find out what’s going on. I have a bad feeling,” Lawrynn yelled.
