“First thing’s first, put your Malkvien ring back on. Then, put on the Bariah ring Erklishandre left behind with her demise. It’s the ring of their clan and they can’t attack those who wear it. It would be like attacking their own family, tearing apart their own flesh. Wearing these rings will keep protected from both the Malkviens and the Bariahs,” he said.
“Are we going to leave London, too?” I said and I didn’t hide my sadness. I didn’t want to leave London. I didn’t want to leave my patisserie behind. I didn’t want to change my life again.
“Your life has already been changed forever, my love,” Alexandre said. “Now, we must work hard to keep you safe. We’re going to Scotland to meet my family. With them around, you’ll never need to worry about your safety again.”
“But what will happen to my patisserie?” I sobbed.
“We’ll figure it out later. Now, we must leave immediately. The Bariahs killed three vampires to trace us. They’ll come back for us but next time we’ll be better prepared. First, we need to work hard to improve your telepathic powers.”
Alexandre helped me stand up on my feet. My hands were trembling hard but a jolt went through me when my eyes met his warm brown eyes.
“Now, we’re even,” I told him smiling.
“What?” he asked.
“In Paris, I saved you and you said that you owed me your life,” I whispered and pulled him gently into my arms. “Now, you saved me. We’re even.”
He gently caressed my back and tucked a silver curl behind my ear. “We aren’t even. We’re a couple; a team; a unit.”
“I need to bake a cake,” I muttered.
He laughed and caressed my cheek with his finger. His beautifully shaped lips turned up in a smile as he secured his arms around me. He placed his hand low on my back possessively. I lifted my eyes to his face; my heart pounded hard in my chest as he lightly brushed his mouth against mine. He kissed around my neck and the mouth. Then he lightly teased my tongue with his tongue before he lightly massaged mine with his and finally gave me a deep kiss.
With my body and my mind aroused, I could now think only of one thing, making sure that I had blocked Alexandre’s way to my mind.
“I need to learn how to bake sticky toffee pudding. Scotland, here I come!”
