Kingsley looked at her.

“There’s nothing you would like better?” she said, hugging him tight.

He chuckled. “You know what I mean.”

“Good,” she said in a husky voice. “Because, I’m not quite ready to let you go yet.”

  76

Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5) She kissed his neck and worked her way up to his ear, then around to find his lips. Her kiss was warm and playful, but it quickly grew passionate as her hand reached for his manhood and brought it back to life once again.

“Now, we can really take our time.”

  Chapter 5

  Harley

  

The night spent in Kingsley’s arms was blissful, almost enough to make Harley forget all the darkness that had invaded her lately. They’d made love, slow and tender, then rested only to make love again, this time hard and wild.

Finally, in the early hours of the morning, they fell asleep and Harley awoke only a few hours later. Leaving to let Kingsley sleep a while longer, she tiptoed out of her room and was relieved to find that April wasn’t there.

There were a few signs that she’d come back to the apartment the night before – dishes in the sink and a textbook on the kitchen table – but she had already left for the day.

  78

Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5) Harley poured herself a cup of coffee that was still hot despite the machine being turned off. As she wrapped her fingers around the warm cup, she silently thanked April for leaving her some.

She turned to look out the window with the hopeful wish that things weren’t as bad as she feared. It was clear that things were changing and not for the better.

Even from a distance, Harley could see the bitterness in the faces of many students. Anger, irritation and a desire to hurt someone just for the sake of hurting seemed to be the order of the day.

Sighing, Harley took a sip of her coffee. It felt like her world was falling apart. Although Kingsley had come back into her life, the chaos that was now developing on the campus would soon be unbearable.

After only one full day of recruiting, Cici and Ashley had already recruited dozens of new dark faes. To what extent would they be to do whatever they were told? From what she could see from her window, the more devious and devilish the task, the more they enjoyed it.

  79

At the edge of the forest, Cici stood pointing to her victim, a thin young man with thick glasses and thick black hair. The dark fae protégé jumped him, cracking his glasses in two as he punched the poor defenseless young man.

And in front of the boys dorm, Ashley pointed to two new students who were soon beaten to a pulp.

“What are you doing up so early?”

Startled, Harley turned to see Kingsley stepping out of her room. Wearing only his red boxer briefs, he almost succeeded in making her forget what was going on right outside her window.

Still sleepy eyed, he ran his hand through his hair as he came to her.

“It’s not as early as you think,” Harley said.

“Do you have a class this morning?”

She looked at the time on the coffee machine.

“In about forty-five minutes.” She glanced outside.

“But I don’t really think I’ll be able to make it.

Things are getting bad even quicker than I expected.”

  80

Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5) Turning to Kingsley, she simply wanted to bury her face into the crux of his arm and disappear forever. The problems they now faced seemed so insurmountable that she felt ready to give up before the fight even began.

But as she looked at the chaos outside, she knew she could never give up.

“I think you’d better get dressed,” she told Kingsley before he could distract her any further.

“Sure.” He left her side, grabbed a cup of coffee and headed back to the room to get dressed.

“Hey!” he called out. “Where’s your friend April?”

“She had an early class, but she could be back any minute now.”

“Oh,” Kingsley said as he returned. Barefoot with only his pants and his open shirt, he still looked as sexy as hell. “Good. It’ll be helpful to have someone else on our side.”

“Don’t count on it,” Harley said dryly.

“Why not? April’s always been a good friend to you.”

“Let’s just say, she had me hoodwinked.”

  81

  Rachel Angel

Frowning, he simply looked at her as he buttoned up his shirt and stuffed it into the waistband of his pants.

“April is not the delicate and innocent fae that she pretends to be. She’s a dark fae.”

Kingsley burst out laughing. “April?” he cried out. “A dark fae? Come on, Harley. This is sweet, little April we’re talking about.”

“Exactly. She comes off as sweet and innocent, but I assure you, she is nothing of the sort.”

  “What proof do you have?”

Aggravated, she turned to face him. Did he not trust her judgment?

“If you must know, I heard it straight from the horse’s mouth.”

“April told you she was a dark fae?”

  Harley nodded.

“She’s also my father’s adoptive daughter.”

Again, Kingsley looked at her in astonishment. “Anything else I should know?”

“He is the Dark Fae Wizard.”

  “Who is?”

  82

  Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5)

“Stephen… my father. He’s the Dark Fae Wizard.”

Kingsley slapped his forehead and sat down on a stool beside her. “You’re kidding me.”

“I wish. Imagine how I feel. I finally find my father only to realize I wish I’d never found my father.”

They heard a loud scream from outside and looked out at the lawn just below the window.

Three young women were being terrorized by a handful of new recruits.

“This is going to get real bad,” Harley said.

“I don’t even know where to begin. What sort of power do I have against the dark faes?”

“If they really start going after humans, I don’t know that we’ll be able to stop them… not if it’s just the two of us.”

“I doubt Oak, Red and Zed are going to be coming back any time soon, not to mention the dean. She’s the one that we need to get back here more than anyone. Isn’t there any way we could send word to her?”

Kingsley shook his head. “I’m afraid not.”

  83

  Rachel Angel

“So, in the meantime, my dear old dad will be at the helm of the Academy.”

“Are you telling me that he looks human?”

“Very much so,” Harley said. “And, unfortunately, he’s quite handsome. I’m sure he’ll be a hit with all the female staff, the female student body and then some. He’s quite charming, too.”

  “Great. That’s all we need.”

“You make it sound hopeless,” Harley said as she watched the three girls fend off the dark faes.

“These new recruits,” Kingsley said. “Most of them are still young novices and they don’t quite know their strength yet.” He followed Harley’s gaze. “Those girls are lucky. They’ll get away from them with a slap and a jeer. But when those faes fully come into their own, no human will be able to fight them off.”

“This is starting to look even worse than the war in the faery realm,” Harley said. “I think we need to call everyone to come help… all of them.”

Kingsley shook his head. “I don’t know.

Traditionally, faes have always steered away from meddling in human activity. I mean, we might step 84

Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5) in here and there for the occasional trick or for the rare swapping out of changelings, but…”

“But they are now actively luring humans into the Dark Fae Realms, Kingsley.
Surely that changes the game a bit. Certainly that warrants breaking with tradition.”

“You’re right. I know. What they’re doing is beyond Faery Realm law. Luring and trapping and then using humans for dark purposes is a huge offense in the Faery Realms.”

“Then, that makes it all the more important that we get reinforcements and find a way of fighting them off before they become an army of dark faes that are unbeatable. For now, the only experienced dark faes we have to contend with are Cici, Ashley and April. How long before these novices learn of their new abilities?”

“Depends,” Kingsley said with a snicker.

“Depends on how smart they are. Some catch on quick, while others never fully understand the scope of their powers. But generally speaking…” He hesitated. “A few days to a week.”

  85

  Rachel Angel

“Good. Then that gives us a few days to gather up our own army.”

Harley looked into Kingsley’s eyes as he looked out over the campus. “We have to move quickly, Kingsley. We can’t take the chance of waiting.”

He nodded. “All right,” he finally said. “I’ll go back. I hate the thought of leaving you here alone, but I’ll go back. I’ll go to the Faery Realm and find a way to get through to Oak, Zed and Red.

I’m sure once they find out that you need their help, they’ll eagerly get on board.” He huffed as he shoved his fingers through his thick hair and looked at Harley. “I just hope they will be able to leave the war behind them and come.”

“Yes,” Harley said hopefully. She knew that the wars of the realms were grave. She also knew that Oak, Red and Zed took their roles in those wars very seriously.

“Truth be told,” Kingsley said. “I shouldn’t even be here. I have to admit that I snuck away thinking I’d only be gone for an hour or two. I was sick with worry and wanted to find you. But not 86

Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5) even in my wildest imaginings did I anticipate finding this.”

“I’m sure there is some way for all the realms to put their differences aside and concentrate on this issue,” Harley said.

Kingsley nodded. “You’re right. I know that none of them would want to see the dark fae mess up the delicate balance of the human world. The natural world and the seasons are of our making.”

  Chapter 6

  Kingsley

Kingsley hated the thought of leaving but knew that Harley was right. They needed help.

They needed reinforcement. But as he prepared to leave, he noticed something going on in front of the administrative building.

“Do you see that?” he said as he approached the window.

Harley looked to where he pointed. “What?

All I see are a bunch of professors milling around.

Hmm,” she added as an afterthought. “Why aren’t they in class?”

“I have my suspicions,” he said with a gleam in his eye.

“Would you care to share them with me?”

  “New dean, right?”

  88

  Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5)

  “Yes,” Harley said indulgently.

“I’d be willing to bet that most of the professors here at the Academy have not yet had the chance to meet with the new dean.”

Harley looked at the crowd of professors and furrowed her brow. “Okay. So?”

“So, the dean has probably called for a staff meeting.”

Looking a little annoyed, Harley glared at him. “Again… so?”

“So, I think it would be interesting if we could find out what the new dean has to say to all these professors.”

  “Okay,” Harley admitted. “You’re right.

That would be interesting. Do you have a plan?”

“Indeed, I do.” He smiled mischievously at Harley. “I’m going to become one of those professors and I’m going to attend that staff meeting.”

Harley beamed. “I like it. But what’s my part in this plan?”

“Stay here. There’s obviously no point in going to class if all the professors are at this 89

  Rachel Angel

meeting. There’s also the chance that your friend, April, will come back. Keep her here and make sure she doesn’t find out what I’m up to.”

“Okay.” She smiled expectantly at him.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“I’m eager to see what Professor Kingsley looks like.”

He chuckled as he envisioned the type of professor he wanted to portray himself as. “It’s not going to be anything fancy, I assure you.”

Closing his eyes, he glamoured himself.

Even before opening his eyes again, he heard Harley chuckle.

“Please don’t make fun of my glamouring,”

he said. He opened his eyes to see her beautiful smile, then glanced at the mirror on the back of the bathroom door.

Wearing a non-descript beige suit with a white shirt and brown tie, he would easily melt into the crowd. His hair was sleeked back, and he’d added twenty years to his face and thirty pounds to his body.

  90

  Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5)

“Want to kiss me now, sweetheart?” he said as he held his arms out to her.

Laughing, she turned away from him. “I don’t think so.”

“Hey, it’s still me in here, you know.”

Harley stood and came to him. “Even as an old and stuffy professor, I still love you.” She kissed him. “Now go out there and find out what they’re up to.”

“Okay,” Kingsley said. “Check to see if there’s anyone in the hall.”

Harley nodded. “Good idea.” She went to the door, opened it and peered up and down the hall.

  “All clear.”

Kingsley hurried out, took the back door out of the dormitory and headed to the crowd of professors who were preparing to enter the building for the staff meeting.

Everyone chatted about the weather, the upcoming semester and the strange new students who were seen running around. Many wondered who the new dean was, and as Harley had 91

  Rachel Angel

mentioned, all the women were eager to meet the reportedly handsome new man in charge.

When the doors opened and the staff meeting officially called, Kingsley kept to himself as they all streamed in. They crossed the huge and brightly lit main hall.

Already, Kingsley noted the few professors who were almost incapacitated by the bright light and suspected they were dark faes.

Led to the huge conference room at the end of the hall, they filed in and took up seats in the three raised rows of chairs that were set up around a long oval table headed at one end by a large red leather chair.

Kingsley discreetly took a close look at the man in the red chair. He was, indeed, very handsome. His jet black hair was thick and gently curled at the nape of his neck. He had a strong chin, deep piercing eyes and a grin that could undoubtedly seduce the most frigid of women. He stood as the professors sat, showing his tall and strong physique to all.

  92

Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5) The women immediately began whispering among themselves as they eyed the new dean. Their hunger for him was palpable.

“How very gracious of all of you to come meet with me this morning,” Dean Stephen said as he sat back down. “I’m well aware that you all had classes planned for this morning, but as the new dean to Fallen Fae Academy I thought it imperative that we get acquainted.”

“It’s our pleasure,” Professor Whitmore said as she ran her index finger over her collar bone and down into her ample bosom.

Dean Stephen smiled appreciatively before carrying on. “This year is going to be a very special year here at the Academy. I’m sure you’ve already noticed the vast improvements made to the campus, but there are also other changes… other improvements to come.”

“Are you part of the vast improvements?”

  Professor
Owens said in a husky voice.

“I like to think that I am,” Dean Stephen said with a chuckle.

  93

Kingsley eyed the dozens of men and women seated around the long table. Judging by the perpetual glimmer of darkness in a few of their eyes, there were at least seven of them who had already gone to the dark side.

“I’ll get right to the point,” Dean Stephen said as he sat up and set his clasped hands on the black table. “I know that a few of you have already been converted to… shall we say… my way of thinking.”

The men and women Kingsley suspected of being darkened souls grinned while the others frowned in confusion.

“Can you tell us what your way of thinking is, exactly?” Professor Trudy said in her childish little voice.

“With pleasure,” Dean Stephen said. “It’s time the lights went out at Fallen Fae Academy. It’s time that we took a different approach to not only education, but the way the world is run.”

  “How so?” Professor Holsman said.

“My ambition is not to simply be the dean of a university. It is to take charge of more than that.

I want to take charge of every aspect of the lives of 94

Disruption (Fallen Fae Academy #5) those who come here. I want to harness their powers and use them to take over the world.”

“The world?” Professor Trudy said as she sat up. “Are you insane?”

The dean’s charming gaze instantly turned dark and menacing causing Professor Trudy to shrink back into her chair.

“I am counting on you – all of you – to help me in my endeavor. I want you to recruit as many students as you can.”

The professors looked at one another and mumbled questions and doubts.

“I assure you that you will be greatly rewarded for your efforts.”
