The biggest change in the life sphere was I could reverse death now, but it had limits. I couldn’t resurrect ash for instance, or even if there was nothing left but charred bones. I had a feeling I’d get there eventually, be able to grow them a new body for their waiting soul to inhabit, maybe at master, but for expert levels if someone was killed with a mortal wound, I could reverse the damage to the body and revive them as long as it was done within two minutes.
Apparently, after two minutes the soul would move on to the sky and Gaia’s cloud temple. Not a big deal I guess, since we’d respawn anyway, but it made a big difference for any locals we fought with. Still, I couldn’t help but wistfully think about Wynn as I’d internalized those concepts.
I had to guess it was possible from ash, or even from memory of a life, since I could already create plants with my will and magic alone, and I knew eventually animals and humans would be possible too. Of course, a human would just be an empty minded clone of someone, if their two minutes were already up. I… really didn’t want to think of that, or the morality of creating humans from whole cloth, and I wouldn’t have to worry about it until master at least.
Point was, in expert levels, resurrect was perhaps the wrong word, calling it healing and resuscitation was closer to the truth. Heal the wounds before the body’s cells all died, and then jump start the heart.
Fire… was a very powerful but limited sphere as far as utility outside of killing people, and lighting a fire, or putting one out. The advancements there were all about what I’d already talked about and had more to do with our new understanding of the magic field, and how to stay anchored to spells outside of our body within our detection field. Sure, ways to make the fire hotter, and cause more damage, but that ties into the four times damage. I also had better control over it. No real major breakthroughs for fire itself. About the only thing really of note at all was my fire elemental would be smarter and more powerful, which meant more damage.
Water had a lot more utility, but again no major breakthroughs outside of a tougher and smarter water elemental. I was mentally strong enough to control one of humanlike intelligence. Could be cool, but I’ve found I don’t use elementals all that often. All the other advances like fire, were in being able to anchor the core of the spell outside the body now.

Not bad, and it boggled my mind that I’m only halfway there.
We were all excited to move on, but we’ll probably spend a few days relaxing, and even helping out to rebuild before we say goodbye to our friends on the island and head out. We’ll also needed to go to the glade, to see if Lara and I can talk the steel oaks into giving us some weapons since we were experts.
Then, I’m sure everything will go smoothly at the chain of smaller islands, and we’ll frolic at the beach all day without a worry. And.. there’ll be coffee.
Yeah right, I don’t believe it either. Damn that Murphy.
I’d bet Gaia was sitting up on high, as she rubbed her hands together while cackling evilly.
Or something.
Afterword:
I hope you enjoyed this story, if you did please leave a review. Reviews are the lifeblood of independent authors, and I would greatly appreciate any constructive feedback or opinions.
This was the third book in the Evolution Online series, there are currently five books planned before it’s tied up. The fourth book is tentatively titled as Cleansing Fire, and is about new beginnings and new enemies on the island chain, and the much larger continent. More than that as well, it will dig much deeper into the major plot arc, and exactly what Gaia’s been up to, and why.
