She didn’t know for sure if they were telling the truth or not. How could I be so fucking stupid? Tommy looked back to Scotty, both of their eyes were wide. The ball of fire flew inches away from Tommy’s head and she wanted to curse herself for letting it go too soon. She pulled out more magic and hoped they thought she missed on purpose.
"Make your choice now." Luna tried to watch both of them. Shock turned to determination in a flash. Tommy shifted and lunged toward Luna.
She threw the fire at Tommy’s stomach and thankfully hit his shoulder, right where she aimed to cause some damage but not to kill. He whimpered and fumbled on the last few steps. Scotty shifted and lunged up the steps, he jumped over Tommy and wrapped his teeth around Luna's arm.
A scream tore through her throat as pain raced under her skin. Luna’s body pulsed with magic sending Scotty flying away from her. She dropped to her knees as the pain leached into her system.
"Ignis totalis." Luna pulled at her draining strength and set fire to Scotty. After a full minute he would die so she counted from twenty seconds. He howled in pain as fire consumed every inch of his fur. Ten. Nine. Eight...She didn’t want to cause permanent damage, just keep him down. Tommy rejoined the fight and knocked Luna into the wall. The spell broke sooner than she planned and Scotty shook out his burned flesh while Luna tried to catch her breath. If they didn’t stop she would be forced to kill them and she didn’t want it one fucking bit. All hell could break loose if she ended one of their lives, even in self-defense. Scotty let go of a growl signaling he was still fucking breathing. Oh, good. I didn’t kill him.
"Tommy!" Hunter rushed into the hallway, his fist slammed into the wall creating a hole. Tommy leaned in toward Luna and her heart lept into her chest.
"Prohibere." Luna froze Tommy before he could wrap his mouth around Luna's neck. Only the fucker's eyes were allowed to move. Her hands shook and more pain raced up her arms from Scotty’s bite. Hunter punched Tommy’s frozen body sending him flying down the hall, breaking the spell. He turned toward her, his eyes scanning her body and he growled. Tommy stood and faced off with Hunter.
“She may have pulled her punches with you, but I won’t Tommy. Stand the fuck down.” Hunter balled his fists ready to strike as Tommy lurched forward. He landed a solid hit to his brother’s stomach but they fell onto the ground. Spikes of agony raced to her heart and her breath came out shaky. Hunter pushed him off with his legs sending Tommy down the stairs.
"Who bit you?" Hunter asked and she pointed toward Scotty. Tommy raced back up the stairs as a door banged open and Dominic bolted up the stairs. His hand wrapped around Tommy’s neck and his chest heaved as anger contorted his strong features.
Luna gasped for air. The light faltered in the air. The pain spread down her body with every beat of her racing heart. Hunter scrambled to her side and he grabbed her hand.
"Luna look at me." Hunter placed his hand on her cheek and she met his worried gaze. His thumb rubbed her flesh under her eye. His presence calmed her down.
"Let her go, she won't survive the change." Tommy's voice seemed to be coming through a tunnel.
"You better hope she does or I’ll kill you myself." Dominic roared, and flesh meeting flesh sounded off to the right.
"You can do this Luna. Just breathe." Hunter rubbed her cheek. Pain seared through her bones, somehow this pain was stronger than her memory from the scientists. Most of their torture had been containing her magic and hitting her around a bit. The worst they did was make her watch what her blood did to the wolves. She closed her eyes and cried out from the pain. Oh, this hurts way too fucking much! She didn’t want to die but she didn’t know for sure if she would complete the change. Luna rolled over to her side and her body vibrated.
A wave of heat pulsed through her body. Tearing fabric met her ears. Luna tried to focus on what happened to her body, but she became overwhelmed with the new sounds, smells and something like a new presence filled her mind. Her hearing heightened while her flesh erupted with hair. Bones cracked with little pain and her muscles stretched.
Her eyes snapped open to find Hunter staring at her with disbelief.
"Well now you have a wolf mate, your welcome." Tommy chuckled. Luna growled low and turned to face him. She bared her teeth and Tommy scrambled back.
"Shut the fuck up before I let my daughter kill you on her own." Dominic's voice broke Luna of her concentration. The scent of charred flesh filled her nose and Scotty barely moved on the floor. She took a few deep breaths and focused on her human form. She had seen it happen enough in the evil lab to know how it happened.
Her body shrunk, and she fell onto the floor in her human form. Hunter helped her to stand and he pulled her into a tight hug. He pulled open a door and grabbed a blanket to cover her naked body. She liked the gesture.
"I thought I woul
d lose you." Hunter kissed her quickly and then hugged her more over the blanket.
"Did you plan for this to happen?" Luna took in a shaky breath, she didn’t want to accuse him of something he didn’t do, but she needed to know.
“I would never put your life in danger, Luna. This was all their fucking plan, not mine.” He growled low. Dominic visibly scented the air.
“Good, I don’t have to kick your ass too.” Dominic rubbed the back of his neck.
"I need some sleep." Luna's legs shook a bit from all the magic she had used tonight. She expected to feel her wolf like the others described it, but she felt nothing.
"Sweetheart you can't go to sleep yet. I have to call the alpha and you have to walk him through what happened tonight."
"It can't wait till tomorrow?" Luna asked exhaustion leeching into her bones.
"She can rest till he gets here. Tommy and Scotty do yourself a favor and don't fucking move unless Dominic says so." Hunter lifted Luna into his arms and carried her back to his room.
Once she settled in his bed, he wiggled in next to her.
"I'm so sorry, Luna. I had no idea, they would be so stupid and aggressive after I made it clear you were mine." Hunter shook his head. Luna grabbed his face and made him meet her gaze.
"You helped me, you protected me instead of letting him kill me." She couldn’t believe it, but she thanked the Goddess for it.
"Of course, Luna. You're my mate." The pain in his voice made her heart clench.
"Then you can't blame yourself for other's actions." Luna shook her head.
"What about your magic? I know it has to be important to you." Hunter looked at her hand and then back to her eyes.
"Well, there's something you should know about your little mate." Luna snapped her fingers and clothes covered her body. His eyes widened then a smile lifted his lips.
