Be Dazzled Page 25

by Ryan La Sala

And I need to thank a few other writers who were invaluable in keeping me going when this book was kicking my butt. Claribel and Phil, not even Olivia Satan could have done a better job. Fern Brain Chat, ilu even when you drag me within an inch of my life.

I for sure want to thank the rest of my close friends, too. So many costume parties, such unflinching endorsement of ridiculous craft projects that were still drying by showtime. It’s an honor to come from a group of people so committed to such a high level of absolutely pointless theatrics. Jess, you specifically. I love you all!

And of course, when it comes to making, I need to dedicate a TON of gratitude toward my publishing fam. Veronica Park, my agent, who turned this whimsical idea into something real; Annie Berger, my editor, who is as smart as she is creative as she is patient; Cassie Gutman, my production editor, who perhaps has the hardest job of all (debating which bad puns make it in); Lizzie and Beth and Mallory, who handle publicity and marketing, along with Michael, Margaret, and Caitlin, my conference team—you all have arguably an even tougher job keeping track of me, and I thank you for your hard, hard work; and of course Dominique Raccah, my publisher, who inspires me to no end.

I also want to give a special thanks to the artists who turned my book about art into art itself: Danielle McNaughton on internals, Nicole Hower on art direction, and the astounding Maricor/Maricar, the embroidery master behind the cover art that begins this book.

All of you are superstars in the constellations of Controverse.

I’m going to stop before I start thanking the craft suppliers who have been bankrupting me. You get the point. It takes many, many people to make a book and many more to inspire it. I wrote this, but we all made it together. So I’ll leave you with Irma Worthy’s well-earned advice: Measure twice, cut once, give up never.

  Happy crafting!

  About the Author

Ryan La Sala grew up in Connecticut, but only physically. Mentally, he spent most of his childhood in the worlds of Sailor Moon and Xena: Warrior Princess, which perhaps explains all the twirling. He studied anthropology and neuroscience at Northeastern University before becoming a project manager at a web design agency. He technically lives in New York City but has actually transcended material reality and only takes up a human shell for special occasions, like brunch, and to watch anime (which is banned on the astral plane).
