I couldn’t help but giggle. “Think about baseball?” I suggested. I was still on the edge of coming, but I was going to need a little bit more.

He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. “I don’t think anything is going to help.”

“Then move,” I whispered. I wrapped my legs around his waist, angling my hips up, and he sunk further in me.

He sucked a huge breath in between his teeth. “Fucking hell, Del. Warn me before you do that again,” he gasped.

“Whoops,” I whispered. But it got the job done.

Jay started to move. His hips slowly lifting up then gliding back in. “God dammit. You are fucking perfect, Del,” he gritted out.

My arms were wound around his neck, my hips spread wide, and all I could do was enjoy and revel in the feel of his body against mine.

His fingers played with my clit while he plunged in and out.

“Delaney,” he called. It was nice to hear my name fall from his lips. Last time, he had called me babe the whole time even though I had told him my name.

  “Jay, please. Faster,” I pleaded.

“I’m gonna come, Del. You gotta get there with me,” he grunted.

His fingers moved faster; his hips pounded into me.

“Oh, God. Oh, Jay,” I panted.

  “Get it, Del, get it.”

His mouth sucked my nipple in, his teeth grazing against it, and I fell over the edge. My need for Jay broke, and my orgasm washed over me.

Jay continued to pound into me, his body covering mine. “Delaney,” he groaned. He thrust one last time and shouted out my name.

I wrapped my arms tight around his neck and waited for the pleasure to subside.

Jay collapsed onto of me, panting heavily and winded. “If we wouldn’t have already made a baby together, I’m pretty sure we would have that time.”

“Is that how that works?” I asked.

“At least with us.” He rolled to the side, pulled me with him, and tucked me under his arm. “You’re okay?” he asked softly.

“Uh, pretty sure I’ve never been better.”

  “Baby?”

I looked down at my stomach. “Uh, I think baby is good.” It was hard to tell but I knew I felt damn good.

He sighed and laughed. “Good. Now I’m gonna take a nap.”

“Did I wear out Jay Perez?”

“Yeah, Del. You totally wore me out.”

I sighed and laid my head on his shoulder. “You think we can order pizza when you wake up?”

Jay’s body shook with laughter. “God damn insatiable, Del.”

  Indeed, I was.

  Chapter Fourteen

  Jay

“So, I’ll be back Monday morning.”

Delaney looked up from her decaf coffee. “Say what?”

“I gotta go to work, Del.” We had been in a bubble of just being with each other the last two days, but now, I had to go back to reality.

“Oh, right, right,” she mumbled. “Pregnancy brain and all that.”

“You a little tired, Del?” After we took our nap last night, Delaney had woken up with twenty minutes to spare before the pizza place closed. We chowed down on a pepperoni and onion pizza then went for rounds two and three. We didn’t fall asleep for the night ‘til well after two.

She glared at me over the top of her coffee cup. “I think tired is an understatement.”

I chuckled and shook my head. “Maybe we should have held out on round three last night.”

“I’m fine, I’m fine,” she muttered. “Just a little slow going this morning especially with this decaf sludge you call coffee.”

Delaney was never going to get used to decaf coffee. “Maybe we can talk to the doctor at your next appointment and find out if you can maybe have one cup of coffee in the morning. Just a little bit to get you going.”

“I tried to talk her into it last time I went, but maybe you can lay on that Jay Perez charm and get the job done.”

I winked and pointed my finger at her. “Take one for the team?” I laughed.

  “Team coffee,” she giggled.

“I gotta take off, Del. I need to pack and get my ass to the shop to help load up.”

She hopped off her stool and straight in my arms. She face-planted against my chest and sighed. “Bye,” she muttered.

“You gonna miss me?” I wrapped her up in my arms, and she tipped her head back.

Her eyes darted to the pantry. “I think you stocked me up pretty good on snacks, so if all else fails, I’ll eat ‘til I stop missing you.”

“So easily replaced by chips and candy.”

She shrugged and leaned up on her tiptoes. “Just get back here quick, and I won’t need to eat my weight in chips while you’re gone.”

I closed the distance between us and pressed my lips against hers. My fingers delved into her hair, and she moaned into the kiss. “I’m gonna miss you, Del.”

  “Good,” she whispered.

I pulled her tightly to my chest and laughed my ass off. “There you are straight to the point.”

“Well,” she muttered. “I’m sure there are some girls at the race who would be more than willing to help you forget me.”

“Not gonna lie, Del. There sure are girls there who would be willing to do that, but I’m telling you right now, the only woman I am interested in is standing in front of me and carrying my baby.” I slid a hand between us and placed it over the small bulge of her stomach.

“I guess I really am the only person that fits that description,” she muttered.

  “When’s the appointment?” I asked.

  “For the baby?”

  I nodded.

“Uh, the sixth at ten o’clock.”

  “I’ll be there.”

She smiled and laid her head on my shoulder. “Perfect.”

Things were finally getting to be perfect.

It had been close to two weeks since she had told me she was pregnant, but as soon as she told me, I was drawn to her. I needed to be with her.

Everything was right when Delaney was with me.

  Chapter Fifteen

  Delaney

  “Wanna go out after shift?”

I looked up at Mave from the chart I was reading over.

It was Saturday afternoon, and I was missing Jay something fierce. He had called me before I headed off to make up some clinical hours from having off last week. I told him, again, that decaf coffee sucked and I was running out of ice cream. He agreed he wouldn’t come back without his bags full of snacks to keep the baby and me happy.

“Um, I was actually going to watch the drag race when I got off.” I had set it to record because Jay had said there might be a chance I could see him working on the car. I had never watched a single drag race in my life before but you can bet your butt I set the timer on the TV faster than you could say fried chicken.

Mave looked at me like I had suddenly grown two heads. “Did you just say you are going home to watch the drag race?”

I nodded and looked back down at the chart. “Um, yeah.”

“Is there a reason you’ve taken up a sudden interest is racing?” she questioned.

“You know, seems like something good to watch.”

Mave grabbed the chart from my hands. “Girl, you better cut to the chase right now. I’ve never heard talk around a subject so much in my life.”

I made a grab to get the chart back, but Mave held it behind her back. If anyone was watching us, we looked like two doctors playing a game of keep away with each other. “I’m watching the race to try to catch a glance of Jay.”

“I thought you said he was on the pit crew. Why would he be on TV?”

I rolled my eyes. “Jay told me.”

“Jay?” she sighed. “Are we actually talking to the baby daddy?”

“Yes,” I said between clenched teeth.

“Spending time with the baby daddy?”

  I rolled my eyes. “Yes.”

“Getting to know the baby daddy?”

“Mave. Are you serious right now?”

“Answer the question, Delaney,” she hissed.

“If by getting to know him you mean sleeping with him and spending all of our time together, then yes, that is exactly what we are doing. Okay?” I hissed back. “My God, Mave. We need to find you a boyfriend or something.”

She wagged her finger in my face. “I am coming over after work, and we are watching those race cars together. I wanna see just who this guy is.”

I grabbed the clipboard back from her and tucked it under my arm. “Fine, but first I need to stop for ice cream and queso.”

She wrinkled her nose. “Pregnancy cravings?”

  “You have no idea.”

  Chapter Sixteen

  Jay

“This was the worst idea I have ever had in my life.” Remy flopped down in a lawn chair next to me. “Look at this.”

He held his phone up in my face, and all I could do was laugh. “You’re really surprised by that, bro?” His mom, Meg, was standing in front of a huge red and white tent with a shit-ton of sparklers in her arms. There was a huge sign behind her that boasted half-price fireworks.

“Did you read what she wrote?” he scoffed.

“Just bought out the whole stand,” I read out loud.

“She just bought everything the roadside fireworks place had. Everything. She bought it.” Remy dropped his phone on the ground. “She’s going to blow us all up.”

I laughed and took a swig of my beer. “She’s bringing Lo and Rigid with her, right?”

Remy nodded. “Thank God. Otherwise, I would need to invite the fire department.”

Frankie scurried over to the circle of chairs we were sitting in. “Guys! You are not going to believe what Meg just sent me.”

“We know,” Remy and I said in unison.

“Classic Meg,” Frankie laughed. “It’s really too bad Christy and Susan went to Florida. They would have a hoot with her.”

“I would appreciate if you didn’t bring people around that would encourage my mother to act even crazier than she normally does. She’s in her fifties, for God’s sake.” Remy was miserable, and I thought it was hilarious.

“Excuse me. You did not just insinuate that fifty is too old to be having fun and living your best life.” Frankie folded her arms over her chest and glared at Remy.

“No. She’s my mom, though,” he explained as if that made sense. “I have to live with all the crazy shit she does.”

“You don’t even live in the same state as her. I don’t know why you aren’t more excited about her coming. This is going to be the best party ever.” Frankie pointed at me. “Even better than the one you got Delaney pregnant at.”

“Har, har, fucker.” I flipped off Frankie and sunk lower in my chair. “I’ve made up for that with her so you can stop throwing it in my face, yeah?”

Frankie sat down in the chair across from me. “I don’t know how the hell you managed to make up for completely forgetting a woman you slept with.”

I shrugged. “It wasn’t like I knew I was going to sleep with Delaney and get her pregnant that night. I was having fun and happened to meet Delaney.”

“Who you are now going to have a baby with and spend the rest of your life with?” Frankie guessed.

“If she’ll have me for that long.”

Remy choked and sputtered. “Are you kidding me right now? Did you really just admit you found a chick you want to spend the rest of your life with? What in the hell happened to the Jay Perez I used to know?”

I finished my beer and tossed the empty on the ground. “I guess I grew the fuck up, bro.”

Frankie whistled. “I am still entirely impressed by the past week and a half. Who would have thought all it was going to take for Jay to get his act together was to get a chick pregnant?”

Remy busted out laughing, and even I chuckled.

“I think we would have been surprised if he hadn’t gotten his act together after that.” Remy pointed his finger at me. “I better be that kid’s godfather.”

“What?” Frankie laughed “You probably just want to be the godfather so you can tell people you’ll make them an offer they can’t refuse.”

Remy snapped his fingers. “This is why we keep Frankie around. She always has awesome ideas. I just wanted to be the one to teach your kid how to cuss. I figured being the godfather would give me that honor.”

“You’re an even bigger idiot than I thought,” Frankie muttered.

“You bringing the baby mama to the party?”

I reached into the cooler next to my chair and pulled out another beer. “Yes, and if you call her that to her face, I will punch you in the nuts.” That was all Delaney needed to hear when she walked into the party. Remy would be dumb enough to do it, too.

Remy held his hands up. “All right. I get it, bro.” He leaned toward me. “Think she’ll be down with BM?”

“Who are we calling Bowel Movement? Is it Roc? He did seem like he had some shit that needs to come down the chute.” Brooks had made his way over to our chairs and made his presence known rather disgustingly.

Frankie turned around with a disgusted look on her face. “What in the hell are you talking about?”

“BM? Bowel movement.” He looked at each of us. “None of you thought of that? What did you guys think it was?”

“Baby mama,” we all said at once.

“Whoops, my bad.” Brooks sank down in the chair next to Frankie.

“You know, I sometimes wonder if the NOS fumes are going to your brain, sweetie.” She reached up and petted the side of his head. “So handsome,” she cooed.

He knocked her hand away. “Woman, ask any of these people out here and they will tell you BM is bowel movement, not baby mama.”

“Maybe we should ask Roc since you seem to think he needs one,” Remy chuckled.

“For the record,” I said to Remy, “Calling Delaney BM will also get you a nut punch.”

“Duly noted,” he murmured. “Nicknames are off the table.”

“Did you hear?” Frankie asked Brooks. “Remy’s mom is more than likely going to blow up your house.”

  “What?” he laughed.

“Wait, I thought we were having the party at our house?” I asked.

Remy shook his head. “Nah, since Frankie decided to invite basically everyone within a hundred mile radius to the party, we had to move it to Brooks’ place since he lives in a fucking mansion.”

“It’s not a mansion,” Brooks insisted.

“Bro, you got five bathrooms in that place. It’s a fucking mansion,” I agreed.

Brooks shrugged. “Well, whatever. You guys are more than welcome to have your party there as long as your mom doesn’t try to blow it up.”

“No promises can be made when my mom will be there,” Remy advised him.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. Just saw you on TV.

Delaney had recorded qualifying today. Probably only for 2.5 seconds.

Well, yeah, but it was still you.

“She’s texting him,” Frankie gushed. “Look at that goofy smile on his face.”

“Bro, do you have any idea how crazy you look right now?” Remy shook his head. “He really is a goner.”

How was work? Texting Delaney was something I would rather do than listen to these assholes.

Good. Mave came over to watch the race with me. I had to stop and get ice cream and queso.

I laughed. I was definitely going to have to stop to get food for Delaney on Monday. Good, Del. I don’t like you being alone.

She’s not spending the night, Jay.

I know. It still made me feel better knowing Delaney wasn’t just sitting all alone by herself.

Just wanted to let you know I saw your handsome face on TV.

Ok. Text me before you go to bed.

  Will do. Miss me.

Only if you miss me, Del.

; “Done sexting?”

These guys were such assholes. “Is this payback for all the shit I gave you guys when you settled down?” I asked.

“It’s only just begun, bro. Wait ‘til the party,” Remy promised.

Good Lord. Maybe I should be worried about Remy meeting Delaney and not Leelee.

Whatever happened, it was sure to be an interesting Fourth of July.

  Chapter Seventeen

  Delaney

“Taco dip is amazing.” I licked the mixing spoon and dropped it in the sink.

“Is there actually some left?” Jay asked as he walked down the stairs, fresh from his shower.

  “Yes, there most certainly is.”

Jay wrapped his arms around me from behind and laid his hands on my belly. “I still say the little guy grew in the four days I was gone.”

I rolled my eyes and grabbed the bag of shredded lettuce. I was finishing up the taco dip for the party tomorrow and planned on working on the fruit pizza next.

Jay had gotten back Monday morning and was knocking on my door a few minutes after I walked in from clinicals that night. We hadn’t been separated since except for when I had to work. Jay was lucky and was given the whole week off.

I was sprinkling the lettuce on top of the dip when a horn sounded in the driveway. “Who could that be?”

  “Delivery,” Jay mumbled.

“Pizza?” I asked. Though why would the pizza delivery guy be honking his horn?

Jay chuckled and grabbed the bag of lettuce from me and set it on the counter. “Different delivery, though now I suppose you want pizza.”

I did. I had been thinking about ordering in while I was making the taco dip so I didn’t end up eating all of the fruit pizza when I made it. “Pepperoni and onion pizza does sound good,” I mumbled.

Jay turned me in his arms. “First, you need to come see what the delivery is and then we’ll get pizza, Del.”

That sounded like a plan I could get behind. “Deal, but why I do need to see what you got delivered. You go get it, and I’ll order the pizza.”
