“But what about Franco and the Holston crew?” Steph asked.
“We’ll take care of them,” Gunny answered. “With a bit of help from a few other clubs. Don’t worry about it. Just heal. Okay?”
Steph looked around the small circle and then to the others that were gathered around. These people were her family. They’d picked her up more times than she could count. They’d been her rock when she had needed them. And now they needed her.
“No,” she blurted out.
“What?” Sledge, Reaper, and her dad asked at once.
“I’m not sitting out,” she told them. “Y’all need me.”
“You’re right,” Sledge said. “We do. But not like this.” He waved a hand up and down in front of her. “We need you to get better. We need you fully operational. Mind, body, and soul, Steph. So, like Gunny said, heal. Then in a month, come back to us. We will reevaluate then. Take this time. You both deserve it.”
And then he dismissed her.
“Alright, mount up!” he told the others.
She watched as everyone walked back to their respective bikes. Everyone except Joker. He looked around confused, then hurried over to her.
“What the hell is going on?” he asked.
“Apparently, I’m now being ordered to stay here,” she told him. “Rafa and I both. For a month.”
Joker grinned. “Sounds about right,” he said. He looked over at the cabin, then back at her. “This place is voodoo-ish,” he said quietly.
“What?” Rafa asked, looking as puzzled as Steph felt.
“When Tinker bought this place,” Joker explained, “he said that it just felt right. And I believe that. There is something… magical about being here. Embrace it,” he told them both. “I promise, you won’t be sorry.”
Joker gave her a quick hug and a quick kiss on the cheek. “I love ya, sis!” Then, he turned to Rafa and extended his hand. “Take care, man.”
She saw Rafa nod out of the corner of her eye. Then as the bikers started to leave, she watched as Joker hopped on his bike and followed the group out.
Together, she and Rafa stood there, both still confused about what had just happened. All day, they had stressed over what would come, only to find out, that it had all been for nothing. Now, standing there alone, Steph had no idea what to do.
A month? What was she supposed to do for a month?
“I guess I better make this place a bit more livable,” Rafa muttered.
She turned away from the trail of bikes and her eyes met his. Whatever cloud that had been hanging over him all day, was gone. There was a glint in his eyes again and the knot that had formed in her gut the moment she’d found the bed empty vanished.
A month… she thought again as she suddenly got an idea of just how she wanted to spend it.
Epilogue
One Month Later…
He pounded into her relentlessly.
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
Harder. Faster. Deeper, until she couldn’t seem to tell where he ended, and she began. The feel of him buried inside of her had recently become Steph’s favorite thing.
She moaned out loud.
She could feel her orgasm building. Her vagina twitched with his every movement. Gripping him. Hundreds of tiny sparks flickered in her core. Each one sending out a shockwave, each stronger than the last. Until finally, the big one hit.
“Fuck!” Steph screamed. “I’m coming!”
Rafa grunted, as her pussy clamped down around him. “Shit, baby!”
His thrusts became more erratic and she knew he was chasing his own release. Reaching her hand up, she placed it against his chest. The feel of his thundering heart made the erotic glint in his eyes even hotter.
Bending her fingers, she dug her nails into his flesh at the exact time she contracted the muscles in her vag.
Rafa’s back bowed. “Fuckkkk!” he roared, as he instantly exploded.
His head fell forward and he rolled to the side, careful of her leg. While it was still healing and only twinged when things got too rough, she had progressed nicely over the last few weeks.
“These physical therapy sessions… just keep getting better… and better,” she said, breathing hard.
“I’m … not sure,” he panted, “if this is exactly what… Doc meant when… he said to work out the leg.”
Steph took a deep breath. “What he meant, isn’t my problem.”
Rafa chuckled.
They laid there, wrapped in each other’s arms until Steph’s stomach let it be known that it was not happy.
Rafa laughed. “Let me grab you something to eat.”
She reluctantly rolled away from him and watched as he climbed out of the bed. Her eyes seemed to be trained on him. She admired his every movement.
“Have to grab some more wood,” he commented as he slipped into a pair of shorts.
“Alright.”
Rafa walked out the door and Steph sighed.
It felt amazing to have him back in her life. For so long, she felt empty inside. Losing him had crushed her spirit and while she still wasn’t whole, every day another piece fell back into place. But that didn’t stop the fear that one day, she could again lose it all.
When Rafa hadn’t immediately returned, Steph crawled out of bed and slipped on an oversized shirt. Walking over to the door she opened it and poked her head out but didn’t see him.
“Hmm.”
Stepping outside, she looked around as she stepped off the porch and made her way around the cabin. She could hear his voice as she rounded the corner.
“Just keep an eye out,” he said into the phone. “If they haven’t hit it yet, they will. The club is on a hunt.”
Steph’s stomach turned. The fuck? she thought to herself.
“If this all goes right, we can end this fairly soon,” Rafa said. “When they show up, let them do their thing. Taking Franco out is the only way to get things rolling in the direction we need.”
She thought she was going to be sick. Was it all a lie? Was Rafa double-crossing the club? Because to her, that’s what it sounded like. Oh my God! My family…
She turned to hurry back into the house to warn them. But as she rounded the corner to head inside, Rafa grabbed her hand.
“Hey, baby.” He smiled. “What are you doing out here?”
“What are you doing?” she countered. “You bastard!”
“What?” He looked shocked by her outburst.
“I heard you!” she yelled at him. “You’re working against my family.”
“What? No!” He shook his head in denial. “Not at all.”
“Then what the fuck was that?” she demanded. “Who were you talking to?”
Rafa sighed. “I’m not working against your club, Stephanie,” he replied.
“Then what the fuck is going on, Rafa?” she asked. “Tell me the truth! For once.”
He closed his eyes for a second and sighed again. “Sit down.”
“No.” She crossed her arms. If he were going to send her world crashing, she would take it standing on her own two feet.
“I am not working against your family,” he stated. “And my guys have a strict order to not touch any member of your club.”
“Your guys?”
“I want the family businesses,” Rafa told her. “The legit family businesses. Not the illegal shit. I want to restore my family name. I want to rebuild the companies and make my father proud. That’s all. And once Franco is out of the way, I’ll be able to do that.”
Steph felt confused. She didn’t know if he was telling her the truth, and now, there was a tiny voice in the back of her mind screaming that he was a liar.
“Stephanie…” He reached out and took her hand. “Baby, I love you. This, right here, is all I have dreamed about since the moment I lost you. I know you’re scared, but please. Believe me. I am trying to build a future for us. Don’t run from me. I need you.”
She
felt conflicted.
She wanted to believe him. She wanted, more than anything, to have him by her side. But was she letting that same want blind her?
Rafa pulled her into his arms. “I love you, baby.”
“I love you, too,” she replied.
And at that moment, she decided, Rafael Holston was either friend or foe, and the only way to find out which side he stood on, was to keep him close.
She prayed that she was wrong. There was nothing Steph wanted more than the happily ever after that everyone else seemed to be getting. But being the woman she is, she wouldn’t sacrifice her family or her morals to obtain it.
Only time will tell, she thought to herself.
“Now,” Rafa said, “How about that breakfast?”
Steph nodded.
“Good.” His smile widened. “And then afterward, I say we climb back into bed and discuss maybe a second meal of a different variety. What do you say?”
“Sounds like a plan to me.” Steph smiled back.
Friends close, and enemies closer, right? she thought as they headed back inside, but this time, her guard was on full alert.
One way or another, Stephanie Briggs would learn the truth. Today. Tomorrow. Or next week. It would happen. And when she did, if it were anything like she suspected, she would make damn sure that Rafael Holston wished that he would have remained dead.
