Abigail had agonized over the decision but letting Brielle go on two dates the next night was the only way out. It bought her some time, they could frame it as a runaway bride situation. Still, the chance of things working out for Abigail and Mark was less and less likely with each passing hour. They both knew it and there was nothing either of them could do about it.
“This discussion is useless. I’m going to bed.” She crossed the living room and made her way down the hall.
“Whatever. I’ll stay up and monitor the texts.”
Abigail slammed the door and Mark flopped down on the couch, waiting for Brielle, Seth, or Asher to send a message. After an hour and a half, his eyes got heavy and he drifted off into a dreamless sleep. Dreams were unnecessary now.
He was already living his worst nightmare.
