“We keep it, and I’m spending it.”
“Okay, just save some for me. Now, Mike, what about the future business with Bates’ other group?”
“They know I kept Bates’ and their company’s name out of the mess and gave us first shot at the Nanotechnology contract. You’d better get well quick. I have several scientists and management types for you to interview.”
We stepped deep into manure and came out smelling like a thousand-dollar bottle of perfume. “Hey! What about the military? Aren’t they a bit peeved that we used the FXA2 to blow up a building and two dozen people?”
Mike smiled. “They were a bit pissed, but that will change if they want to purchase FXA3 explosive from our new plant in Theodore. We got a new contract with the government for FXA2 and the new, more powerful FXA3. I can’t promise a number now, but everyone on our New Wave team will become shareholders and receive a substantial cash bonus. You already know about the rest of the businesses. You need to heal up and get our Nanotechnology business up and operating.”
I didn’t say anything and wondered when Jane got her share if I’d ever see her again. I ignored Mike’s patter and thought about what I’d lost. The millions didn’t seem so important now. I talked to Mike, but my mind was on Jane and how to mend things between us.
I started to thank Mike for bringing me back into the company when I heard a voice that made me cringe. “Get out of the way. That’s my husband in there!”
I closed my eyes and refused to budge. I missed Jane.

Bates rested in at his villa in Mexico and started making notes for the execution of his plan for depopulating the island. There was a noise behind him, and Carl entered the room. “Boss, Bill was fed to the sharks this morning.”
“Good, he betrayed J&M for pennies and would soon betray us.”
Carl shook his head. “I have some bad news. The woman, Beth, escaped the explosion. One of my men spotted her when she jumped out from under the UPS truck just before we boarded the plane. I think I should go back and kill her and all of the J&M people.”
Bates smiled. “Not now. We might need them again. They’re greedy enough to be duped again if I throw enough money at them. I have plenty of money, and they still have what I need to expand our operation. Be patient, my friend.”

About the Author
AJ Newman is the author of 34 science fiction and mystery novels plus 9 audiobooks that have been published on Amazon and Audible. He was born and raised in a small town in the western part of Kentucky. His Dad taught him how to handle guns very early in life, and he and his best friend Mike spent summers shooting .22 rifles and fishing.
Reading is his passion, and he read every book he could get his hands on. He fell in love with science fiction. He graduated from USI with a degree in Chemistry and made a career working in manufacturing and logistics, but always fancied himself as an author.
He served six years in the Army National Guard in an armored unit and spent six years performing every function on M48 and M60 army tanks. This gave him great respect for our veterans who lay their lives on the line to protect our country and freedoms.
He currently resides in Henderson, Kentucky, with his wife Patsy and their four tiny Shih Tzu’s, Sammy, Cotton, Callie, and Benny. All except Benny are rescue dogs.
