They broke away from their frantic kissing, breaths panting and heavy with desire, as she helped the prince wriggle out of his boxers, leaving all of him free at last. From his fine, rounded face and lust-glazed eyes, to the strong muscles in his creamy arms, the rippling of his stomach muscles as her fingers danced over them, and to the waiting erection below, which she tentatively grasped, curious to see if it’d be soft, or hard.

“That’s… ah, very distracting,” he said, nuzzling her forehead with his, flexing slightly so that her hand slid away from his length.

The thought of that thing slipping in her had her both terrified and excited, and she expected him to dive right in, now that they were both naked, but he didn’t. He took his damn time, playing with her skin, lips traveling across her face, neck, collarbone, until his hot breath lingered over each breast, tongue dipping at the hardened peaks there.

He kept up his sweet torment until she rocked her hips against his, hissing noises of encouragement, begging for him to take it further. It was like existing in a strange, heated fever dream, where the rest of the world didn’t matter, didn’t exist, and Kerrick had expanded to fill that void. Nothing but him was needed, nothing but to have their bodies flush and tight against one another, weathering the storm of emotion together.

He tested her wetness with one finger, before finally slipping into her hot, aching center, slowly and carefully to make sure he didn’t bring her pain. There was a slight bite to the way he filled her up, since she hadn’t experienced anyone inside her before, but he always made sure to be careful, respectful, until she had stretched enough to accommodate him without tensing up.

Her thoughts blurred as he began to thrust in her, shallow and slow, but increasing the length until he was slipping almost all the way out and back in. It wasn’t that, however, that was the best feeling—just having him close, having him there and so intimate, whispering things in her ear, kissing her with those lips, worshipping her with every bone in his body.

She noticed how when she touched his left shoulder, he winced slightly, and quickly learned to avoid that area.

All of it merged together and formed a tight ball in her stomach, which grew and grew every time he hit a certain spot inside her. He didn’t always hit it, so she ebbed and flowed like water, reassured when he told her she was doing fine, moaning when she raked his back, sucked at his neck, and dragged him close to her.

The tight ball in her snapped like a band, and she shuddered and broke beneath him, mouth open in a silent scream, almost boneless with the pleasure that rocketed through her.

  What…

  What was that…

Her body’s automatic reaction, to contract and tense, seemed to do something to him as well. Her muscles tightened around his length, and he shivered, giving a few sharp thrusts, before slowing, and resting his face against her shoulder. His hot breaths peppered her skin, and his heart galloped at a similar rate to hers. The sex-choked haze around them gradually calmed, until they were both untangled, and lying side to side, sleepy and happy.

His fingers couldn’t stop stroking her cheek. “That was…” he said, at a momentary loss for words. “Amazing. You’re amazing.”

“I barely did anything,” she said, though she grinned. The grin felt too wide, too different from the way she usually smiled. She probably looked like an idiot. “You did all the work.”

“Oh… you were definitely helping,” he said with a breathless chuckle. “Look at this.” He pointed at his side, where there were scratch marks along his skin.

  “Oh, storms.” Luan stared, wide-eyed. “I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s fine, it’s fine. It was… good. And if you give me ten minutes… I’m more than happy for another round.” The smile turned devious.

Luan gaped. “You’d do this more than once a night?”

  “Certainly.”

She shivered, crossing her legs, feeling a strange, burning sensitivity down there. “That’s… seems there’s a lot I don’t know.”

“I’ll teach it all. And learn some more as well,” he said, planting a soft kiss on her lips. “I want to share this with you. I…” he hesitated.

But he didn’t need to say it. Luan knew.

She might be a dense idiot when it came to personal feelings regarding romance, but she did know the words trapped in his body.

So she said them for him.

  “I love you, too.”

He stiffened in her arms, before relaxing with a sigh of relief. “Likewise, Luan. Likewise.” His gaze then turned serious. “So, do me a favor and try not to die, alright?”

“I’ll try my best,” she said, highly amused, resisting the urge to laugh like a donkey. “But I am a cop. I go where the danger is.”

“And I’m a prince. I’m surrounded by it,” he said with a smile. “Maybe I’ll have to hire you as my bodyguard.”

“Good luck trying to peel me from Perran’s task force,” Luan said with a smirk. “Because I don’t think that man’s planning to part from me for anything.”

“Eh. I’ll find something,” he said, before leaning forward for another addictive kiss. Luan could get used to this.

  Very used to it.

“I’m surprised you’re not repulsed by me,” she said as lightly as possible, even though the thoughts weighed heavy on her heart, and took away some of the buzz of her first orgasm. “I’m so used to the way people look at me. And then there’s the way you look at me. I don’t know how to handle it.”

“Whatever you are to others, you’re important to me, Luan. More important than you’d ever know. But I intend to spend a lot of time showing you in person what you mean to me.”

“That’s nice,” she murmured, a new tightness forming in her stomach. Her lips parted to accept his tongue, and the kiss turned from lazy and gentle to hunger and heat.

  Epilogue – Kerrick

Thousands turned up for his coronation. They cheered in the streets as they watched his advisers drape the crown about his head, as he raised the golden staff, with the figurine of a long, golden, serpentine dragon entwined around it. Luan was in the crowd, making sure no one attempted to leap out at him, as with her reputation, people tended to steer clear.

They knew he was dating her. He’d insisted on making it public, and she’d reluctantly agreed, though he saw the delight dancing in her eyes. She might be able to keep her face rigid, but she couldn’t hide it from her eyes. He was learning to read her better and better every day.

Still had a lot to learn about her, but he was willing to go on that journey. Willing to chase his love.

With the screams and cheers of the crowds a distant memory, Kerrick retired to the royal bedchambers, not needing to spend any time on throne duties today. There’d be a feast later in his honor, where he needed to rub shoulders with important people, and start seeking to revise any altered laws, but for now, he could just enjoy time to himself.

He grinned when Luan floated onto his balcony and strolled inside, instantly greeting him with a deep kiss and grab. “Afternoon, honey,” he said, trying the pet name, interested to see if she’d flinch, glare, or accept it happily.

Her cheeks pinked slightly as she replied, “Afternoon yourself. No one tried to kill you at your coronation, so I consider my job a success.”

“I kept imagining all the things that could go wrong,” he admitted. “But then I remembered I had you watching over me. So I wasn’t worried at all.”

A slight lie, but also a slight truth.

“Your guards almost had a heart attack when they saw me floating to your balcony. Lucky you informed them about me, I suppose… because otherwise that’d be some lax security going on.”

He grinned. “You’re all the security I need…”

She made a hmph of disbelief but did allow herself to be caught up in additional kisses.

Yes, Kerrick thought, brimming with joy. The shadow of his father’s death didn’t loom as much as he thought it would. Th
ey’d been too estranged for too long for him to care like he used to.

He was king, aiming to change laws, controlled by the police, but that was a small price to pay. He also happened to be in love with a cop. A dangerous, wonderful, sexy cop that he never wanted to let go of.

I wonder how long I’d have to wait before I ask to marry her, he thought quite seriously. Probably not now. She barely managed to survive him calling her honey.

Maybe I’ll give it a week. Or a month. He beamed into his kisses, drawing her onto his lap, holding her there as once more, they pretended that the rest of the world didn’t exist.
