“Fair enough,” he replied, clearly not happy.

As they passed a fountain ornate with a green, red and blue mosaic built among the palm trees, giving the patches of cooling shade, Cherry’s face stiffened. In that very moment, she made a promise to herself. She swore she would always choose Imre and Yasmeen, who had not been born yet, no matter what, always and forever. The cold dread settled itself on the edge of her consciousness.

Although she had that vague impression that everything so far was just the beginning, the first step; of her own free will, she vowed not to be further involved with what was to come. Her only purpose now was her newfound family and she refused to fulfil her destiny any further. Aaldir had been right. They had both served but she did not know who the employer was or what the ultimate goal had been. She did not want to learn the truth and would protect Imre and Yasmeen at all cost.

The memories from the prison started to blur in Cherry’s head. They were falling asleep. Only one thought stubbornly remained awake: the Darkness would strike again.

Imre pulled her behind him towards the bushy plants that hid them both from the glances of other people. He drew her closer to him and closed her mouth with his, his fingers lifting her skirt. He smoothed her inner thigh with his hand and said in her ear, ”Can you take us now to Westfad Manor or somewhere else where there will be a comfortable bed? Before we get arrested for our indecent behaviour.”

Cherry chuckled and said to him, ”You are no different, Imre. You are even worse.” In fact, he was a bit different, warm, sweet in his slight clumsiness, desperately passionate. Mad about her with these almost non-existent vampire undertones. Her claws and wings appeared and her laser blue mist engulfed everything.

They appeared in Westfad Manor just after Felicia and the two of them had left to Atlantis. Cherry was surprised how precise her calculations had been. The tomato soup had cooled just a little as Cherry assessed, sinking her finger in the plate and licking the red dense fluid whilst her Varuh hid itself in her soul.

“She came to me in the prison,” Cherry said with a melancholy in her voice.

  “Who?” Imre asked.

  “Felicia.”

“Maybe there is an afterlife,” Imre said. “The house is ours. Felicia was a very generous woman.”

“I have to visit my mother,” Cherry insisted as Imre pulled her sleeves to expose her shoulders and cleavage.

“Madison is fine,” he said with slight irritation and set her on the table, entangling his fingers with her hair and kissing the side of her neck.

“I haven’t seen her for twenty years,” Cherry said, letting out a sigh.

“Birdie, can you stop talking at last,” he muttered. “I’ve waited twenty years to make love to you. This is more important. Madison is fine.”

A five -year -old girl sat up on her bed. She ran her small fingers through her dark, curly hair, scratching the tip of her head. The room was spacious and the dim light emitted by a bedside lamp threw shadows on an embossed ceiling and vintage furniture. There were five small teddy bears at the foot of the mattress on the single framed, metal bed.

"Mummy, "the girl cried out, covering herself with a Disney princesses' duvet.

The door opened, creaking in the silence. A tall figure stood in the stream of light from the hallway.

"Who are you?" the girl asked.

"I'm your grandpa, "the man answered. His voice was intense, deep and strange.

  "Why are you so scary?"

"That’s because I'm a big, bad vampire who eats small, naughty girls like you, Yasmeen."

The girl giggled and spurted towards the man. She extended her thin and short arms. The man embraced her and lifted her in a strong hug, her head resting on his shoulder.

"Where are my mum and my dad?" Yasmeen demanded, yawning.

"They are busy. Grandma Madison and I will look after you for a while."

  "What's your name, Grandpa?"

"My name is Drasa," he said in a quiet voice. He stroked Yasmeen’s dark hair. “Poor little Second Flower... Destined for true love... and for great suffering.”

“You are creepy, Grandpa,” Yasmeen said and giggled once again.
