Bennet grinned. “Ah, Jane, my peacemaker. I will miss you the most, I think.”

Elizabeth’s brow rose. “And you will not miss me?”

Bennet’s grin widened at the challenge in his second daughter’s voice. “Oh but I will! You are my adventurer. You bring daily challenges to me. I will be lost without you.”

Just then, the organist began to play, and Elizabeth had to limit herself to rolling her eyes.

An hour later, the newly minted Darcys and Bingleys exited the church to the cheers of their families and the Bennet’s neighbours. After the wedding breakfast, during which Miss Bingley condescended enough to introduce “her” duke to Elizabeth, Darcy escorted his wife to their carriage. They were headed to London to spend their first night as husband and wife before taking a week-long trip to the coast.

Darcy cuddled with Elizabeth under the blankets as the equipage moved away from Longbourn. He kissed her deeply before resting his cheek on the top of her head. “I am so happy to finally be married.”

Elizabeth smiled into her husband’s coat. “I, as well. I do not know of anyone who had a betrothal as uneasy as ours.” She lifted her head to look into his eyes. “We must work hard to make our marriage easier than our courtship was.”

“Oh, we will, I promise you that.” Darcy captured Elizabeth’s lips once more.
