Fynn nodded. "Plus any repair parts Max needs for the greenhouse. He says the situation in the domes is better now, that the trustees have quit strutting around in those orange-banded coveralls, and Maliah just waves from her balcony every once in a while. His crew's getting plenty of work done."
"What about your crew?"
"On their work shifts, they dress in medics' coveralls, and no one bothers them. They're even living in the Village barracks again, most of them."
"So you're going to hide out here in the pilots' quarters with me and spend your days in our manufacturing lab?"
"The colony plans assigned a group to handle manufacturing, and Orpheus prioritizes replacement parts. I've got no reason to interfere and risk upsetting anyone. I've been thinking that, for now, the more distance between me and everyone else, the better."
Fynn tapped his sleeve. "The Poseidon needs a pilot, and Orpheus has all the training videos. I think I'll learn to fly a shuttle. Searching Saturn's rings and moons for minerals is an important job if the colony's going to survive."
"And I was just getting used to having you around again."
"You won't be rid of me so soon. I have to study for weeks before Evan will let me fly solo." Fynn tested the tea cup with his fingertips. It would cool soon enough.

Many people helped edit this story. My thanks to EJ Randolph, author of the Federation Diplomat series. She put up with more than one draft of this book.
I also thank Critters.org where authors critique one another's work.
The book is better thanks to the generous efforts of these people. Remaining errors and inadequacies are my own. Kate
