Tyler: The Gatekeeper Series Page 2

with the freedom fighters, he had to seriously question why that had happened. Unfortunately, he could never seem to get a chance to talk with Acacia, she was held in some kind of high supreme.

All the Bounty hunters made bets on who would get them first, thinking that it would only be a matter of weeks, that was years ago. He wasn't sure what bothered him more, that she was a freedom fighter, successfully fighting on the side of good and or that she was still alive. The lines of what was right were blurred for Tyler, these days. Tyler knew the government had pretty much signed the souls of everyone away to the Kings of Hell, who would be coming through the portal in Wyoming. Freedom Fighters, where fighting for just that, freedom. They wanted to close the portals and restore peace, not just through earth, but in all realms. This was what Rhea was doing, but Tyler was convinced that her soul twisted, and somehow she was tricking everyone around her, working for the other side.

As Tyler closed in on the Wyoming work camp, he could smell the stench of death. Smoke travelled up through the air. Sometimes they purge the camp of people, and send them into massive gas chambers, just like the Nazis had.

At the gate the army guard stopped him, Tyler lifted his arm to show the tattoo on his wrist. It was of two black swords crossing over one another at the tips, then a shield between the two hilts, stating that he was a reformed member of society, a Bounty Hunter.

The guard let him in the gate, Tyler was looking for anything that would give him a clue where he might find the Oracle.

He walked over to the board where they listed the names and pictures of freedom fighters to be found, most of them witches, which sometimes made the job rather hard.

“Tyler, it's very nice to see you back state side again.”

Tyler turned to the female voice. Senator Michelle Roberts signed some papers before looking up at him

She was a taller woman, and five foot nine, which didn't stop her from wearing high heels, shoes she could walk in at an incredibly fast pace. Her dark Brown eyes, looked him up and down which always made it clear to him that she wanted him. Her Brown hair fell in soft curls at her shoulders. She was always in a suit. Her skirts, always at her knees, hiding her slender legs, her body looked like it could be a dancer’s body. She was in her late thirties, she wasn't as ambitious as other women, but she was determined to get ahead, and wasn't afraid to kill who ever she needed to so she could stay in the game.

Behind her stood the 'French Man'; everyone knew him as her lover. A rather big baby when it came to Michelle giving attention to other men, he was constantly at her side, when he wasn’t on a mission for her. Tyler smirked as he looked at him, it was as if he was a dog, fetching anything she wanted, no matter what she did. Tyler referred to him as the 'French Man', because his accent was so thick, though he was never introduced to anyone, so Tyler had no other name for him. His face was rather narrow, his cheek bones high, and his eyes a plain brown. Tyler figured that she must get sick of him at times, as she sends on him missions where he is noticeably absent for longer than normal periods of time. The man always glared at Tyler, giving Tyler the edge, maybe Michelle makes him pretend to be a Bounty Hunter in some erotic foreplay.

“I came to see what we had going here for a bounty.” Tyler replied.

“Always looking for that rush aren't you?” she replied her eyes flirting with him

“You should stay and rest for a while, I still have that room waiting for you.”

It was always the same when he came. She just assumed he liked the hunt, and he just let her think it.

The 'French Man' moved closer to her. Tyler looked down at her closing the space between the two of them. She seemed to enjoy the attention Tyler suddenly decided to pay her, and Tyler enjoyed irritating the 'French Man'.

“Will it be as entertaining as you promised?” He asked in a husky voice, running his hand along her arm in a gentle caress, she laughed slightly

“It is always entertaining when you are around.” She let the flirt come out so openly.

“How about a rain check?” He asked

She bit her lip she was a rather beautiful woman, but he knew she wouldn’t hesitate to slit his throat if she ever assumed that he would betray them, or if it meant her advancement.

“The offer is always open.” She said, her heels clicked as she walked away.

The 'French Man' stood there a moment longer just staring at him. Tyler met his eyes.

“What?” he asked, but the guy just stood there, how did he think Tyler was going to react.

He slowly turned and followed Michelle.

Tyler let out a grunt as he turned back to the board.

The record keeper came up next to him pinning new pictures up.

“Have Freedom Fighters Rhea or Lynn been caught yet?” Tyler always asked.

“No... Not yet.” The older man replied slowly. Tyler was scanning the pictures along with the bounty next to them, to decide if anyone of them where even worth his time.

“Any news about the Oracle?” Tyler asked. The man was use to the same questions. Tyler knew he wasn't the only one who asked. The only difference was Tyler had a personal connection to them, which no one knew about, He never worried, even if Rhea had mentioned him to anyone, his was too common of a name for his generation.

“Yes there was a sighting for the Oracle near the old town of Gillette.” The man said slowly Tyler’s brain was finishing the sentence before the man could articulate it.

  Tyler faced him

  “Where exactly?”

The bushed brows lifted on his old face

“That was weeks ago, and many bounty hunters went out, some of them in pairs, to go and get her.”

“Did any return?” he asked hopeful.

“Some returned before they even got there. Hell Hounds covered the area, dead Bounty Hunters everywhere. If that old woman was there, she is for sure dead now.”

Tyler knitted his eyebrows together. Multiple Dead Bounty Hunters, which meant the government, would be dispatching quite a few new ones. It also explained why he had gone without even a slight reprimand for what had happened in Europe; apparently Michelle knew he had gone, so she must have known how he had acted, and how he had actually saved the person he was hunting.

“Did they say where she came up on location exactly.” the old man shuffled over to his desk, Tyler thought it rather Ironic that he had referred to the Oracle as an old lady, being so old himself.

Darlene was decade’s younger then old shuffle feet here.

“Ahh, here it is.” He handed the portion of the map to Tyler. It was a location just South of Gillette. Tyler had a feeling that Darlene was making her way back to Casper for whatever reason. Casper was a dead city, like many of the cities in Wyoming, why would she go back there? He asked himself, and after all of this time, why did she surface? She had been under ground for almost a decade, what was she up to? Now there were more questions, which he hoped would bring him to Rhea.

“Saved this one for you, young Hunter, thought you would like the prize.” the old man handed him a paper of a young witch. It was Eliza. Crap, she must have used her magick after he specifically told her not to! No one knew he favored her, and part of him should just let her get caught, because it served her right for using, when he told her not to.

“How long ago was this released?”

“A few days ago.” the man slowly said. She must have done it right after he had left her. She was probably throwing some sort of temper tantrum, because of the way he left things. Her attachment to him was getting rather annoying.

Tyler had to take great care to not run from the camp, he didn't want to make his actions suspicious. He also never portal out by any camp or place the government controlled, it was a gift he usually kept under wraps.

Tyler quickly crossed the field away from the camp. He was growing angry that she would be so foolish to put him in jeopardy. Here was another woman that was going to bring him harm, damn her for thinking
she could do so. Anger filled his pace, he climbed the hill and slid down the other side, then broke into a run, and it would be miles before he could portal to her and save her stupid ass. For her sake she had better hoped that he could run off some of this anger, or he would just let the nastiest bounty hunter have her after Tyler slapped her around a bit.
