The main plot for Somebody’s Daughter was inspired by a newspaper article I read some time ago and bookmarked for a future story. I spent several weeks researching homeless people, sex workers and life on the street, especially for young people.

Soon after I began writing the book, I found myself shopping in Solihull town centre, where I observed random acts of kindness from strangers who went out of their way to buy takeaways or cups of coffee for people who were scattered around the town. In each case, the ‘gifts’ were received with genuine gratitude, and listening to some of those who had found themselves homeless, I discovered in many cases they were there through misfortune brought on by circumstances they couldn’t control.

This, together with my research, was eye-opening and has made me think twice about passing those who sit in doorways, hoping for assistance, be that money or a sandwich and a cup of tea. A little kindness can always make a difference.

One of the main themes in this book is deception. Now you know why Natalie and her estranged sister don’t speak, and I wonder if you have experienced anything similar, a fallout that damaged a close relationship? Do you think Natalie should forgive her sister and let bygones be bygones? We shall have to wait and see how that pans out.

Lastly, can I ask, if you enjoyed reading Somebody’s Daughter, please would you write a review, even if it is only a few words? Your recommendations are very important and mean a great deal.

  Thank you,

  Carol

  Detective Robyn Carter Book 2

Colourful, plastic boats were scattered in puddles on the floor. In the bathtub lay Linda Upton, fully-clothed, lips a shade of blue, and bloodshot eyes wide open.
