One Year Later…
“She is adorable!” Virginia Schulz stared at her granddaughter, Lexie (named after Leah’s mother) Annette, with tears in her eyes. She had come a very long way and it was all due to the woman lying in the hospital bed, exhausted after twelve hours of labor. The proud husband sat next to her on the bed with his arm around her cradling her on his shoulder. He knew she was exhausted and probably wanted to sleep, but she had just fed their daughter who bore a striking resemblance to her! They had found a six bedroom, five bath house with a porch and a large backyard in the exclusive area of Pine Cove and he had found himself even joining her in consulting with her about the landscaping. She had gotten pregnant soon after their marriage and he had been so happy about it, wondering if he was going to make a good father.
“It’s time to put her down,” the smiling nurse said as she came into the room.
“Thank you,” Leah murmured drowsily as she looked at her daughter. She was absolutely beautiful and a product of both their love!
“I am going to leave you to get some rest, darling.” Virginia got to her feet and came over to touch Leah lightly. “Thank you.” She looked at her son. “I will see you later.”
“Okay, Mother. Are you sure you are okay going home so late?”
“I will be fine, darling,” she said, relieved that he had started to care. “I will see you at the house tomorrow.”
With a wave, she was gone.
“You are tired,” he murmured as she snuggled into his chest.
“A little bit,” she admitted.
“You were amazing.” He brushed back her hair and kissed the top of her head.
“Only because you were here.” She wrapped her arms around him possessively. It had been a wonderful year! A year where she had gotten to know this strong incredibly handsome man and had managed to shake him out of his usual sober state. They had traveled the world together, even when he was going on his business trips. She had made a home for them and he had watched amused and amazed as she saw to the design of their home and when she discovered that she was pregnant, the design of the nursery. He was so completely in love with her that he wondered what he had ever done without her to begin with!
“I don’t know if I want to see you go through that again,” he said softly.
“And here I was thinking that we would have five more,” she said impishly as she looked up at him.
“Don’t mess with me, baby,” he told her with narrowed eyes.
“One more, Peter, I insist.”
“We will see.” He tilted her chin up. “Have I told you how much I adore you?”
“Not in a few minutes,” she told him huskily.
“Mrs. Leah Schulz, I love you more than anything in this world and I always will.”
“I love you too, my husband,” she whispered as she snuggled into him. She closed her eyes with a smile on her lips as she thought about the man who had her heart in his hands!
