Stephen Taylor, you are the smartest, most well-rounded and well-read person I know. I wanted above all to write something you would like. I’m glad I got to meet you again.
Paul Citroni, Elyse Citroni, and Kayley LeFrancois, I am so lucky to call you family.
I wrote a good chunk of this book in a postpartum fugue state. There were times I didn’t think I’d survive, let alone make art again, once I became a solo mother. Marika Lindholm, you were a guide and an inspiration; your generosity kept me going, along with our ESME.com dream team Cheryl Dumesnil, Katie Shonk, and Heidi Kronenberg.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
DOMENICA RUTA grew up in a working-class, unforgiving town north of Boston. Her mother, Kathi, was a notorious drug addict and sometime dealer whose life swung between welfare and riches, and whose highbrow taste was at odds with her hardscrabble life. Ruta is a graduate of Oberlin College and holds an MFA from the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin. Her stories have appeared in the Boston Review, the Indiana Review, and Epoch, and she has been awarded residencies at Yaddo, MacDowell Colony, Blue Mountain Center, Jentel, and Hedgebrook. The author of The New York Times bestselling memoir With or Without You, a darkly hilarious mother-daughter story and chronicle of a misfit nineties youth, Ruta lives in New York City.
