She tilted her face up to his. “We’re going to be married. That’s all that matters.”
He grinned, and then kissed her, their mouths fusing together hungrily, arms coming around each other.
Bernie pulled away. “Do you think we would have fallen in love if the house party hadn’t happened?”
“Of course.”
“How do you know?”
“You’re irresistible. I was doomed from the start.”
Bernie laughed. “Don’t be ridiculous. At the start, you thought the party was a terrible idea.”
“I did. I was jealous. I didn’t want those rakes to see what I saw. This morning, I thought I was going to lose you, and I never want to feel like that again. It was like death’s skeletal hand gripped my heart, cold as ice. I can’t imagine how scared you must have been.”
She’d never been more frightened—or angry. “I survived. I don’t want to dwell on it.”
“It’s not over yet. The magistrate has been summoned and Rupert’s body was taken away. They will want to question you.”
“I understand.”
“I will be by your side the entire time.”
She kissed his nose. “That was never in doubt.”
“I love you, Bernie. I don’t want to spend another moment away from you if I don’t have to.”
“I don’t want you to either. I love you, and I’ve come to love your hovering.”
“Have you now?” He bent and swung her up in his arms, carrying her to the bed.
They dispatched with their clothing quickly, pulling the coverlet up over their heads, creating a world of their own. Bernie ached for him as he settled between her thighs, hitching her leg over his hip and kissing her with a need that matched her own.
He pressed inside, slow and steady, waking every nerve ending in her body with pleasure. She shivered, her muscles clenching around him. He filled her completely, stopping and just holding her, and already Bernie was on the brink of a star-bursting release. Her heart so full of love, her arms so full of the man she would never let go of again. She squirmed against him, unable to hold still when her body clamored for relief. He matched her movements and together they reached sweet oblivion.
Together forever.
As they’d always been. Friends since childhood and now lovers. Their paths running side by side and now entwined.

Dayna was only fourteen when she developed a serious addiction to romance novels. What began as an innocent desire to read became an all-out obsession with the romance genre. She gave book reports on romance novels, got in trouble for reading during lectures, and would rather spend her time reading than attending high school parties. After all, high school boys could not compete with the likes of Stephanie Laurens Devil Cynster. After getting her first job, her addiction only got worse. She now had her own money to spend and a car to get to Barnes and Noble as frequently as she wanted. She managed to maintain a somewhat normal life, marrying her high school boyfriend who was aware he was competing with fictional men for her attention. Dayna soon began writing her own romance novels, inspired by her love for all things romance. Dayna and her family live in Southern California with their two children and three fur babies. Dayna is happiest at home where she can be with her family and write to her hearts content.
