“They’re no smaller than Sean and Jasper were,” James said as he held out a finger, and our son grabbed on to it, causing his grandpa to smile.
“So what are their names? Other than Ash?” my dad asked.
“The first one born was Asher Taylor, and his sister Abigail Grace followed two minutes later,” I told the grandparents as I wrapped my arm around Rhett’s shoulder. We both had gotten up to allow our parents to sit down on the little couch in the room. They looked funny sitting there, crowding onto it.
“You named him after me?” Taylor asked, a shocked look on his face.
“I couldn’t think of any other name I wanted him to have, Papa. You’re the reason I’m here and you mean the world to me. I only hope I’m half the father you and Dad are. We know we won’t have any others—these two will be it for us—and we wanted to make sure their names were special,” Rhett told his papa.
I watched as Taylor looked to my mom and smiled. She explained that her middle name was Grace and that Chloe’s middle name was as well. Rhett and I watched as our parents took turns saying hello to their new grandchildren. They stayed for almost two hours, but they promised they would be back if we didn’t get to go home with the twins the following day.
Our brothers all texted and promised they would be stopping by the house to meet the twins once we were home. They knew we needed to bond with our babies, and we both appreciated that.
Three hours later, we had two tiny babies asleep in plastic bassinettes. They’d both been changed and fed, and Rhett and I both needed some sleep. We were going to be up again in just a few hours.
“Thank you, Logan,” Rhett said as he curled up beside me on the too narrow bed.
“What for? I haven’t done anything.”
“Yes, you have. You loved me. Without that, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and we certainly wouldn’t have the twins. I love you so much,” Rhett said with a sigh as he dozed off. I had to admit, I felt the same. Without Rhett in my life, I would have gone on as I had been, grouchy and alone. He brought happiness to my life.
“Love you, too, munchkin.”
