Yun idly thumbed through a book on the nearest shelf. “What about the police though? What if they push the issue?”
“The police are beholden to higher authorities.” Liam unbuttoned his coat. “I’m sure A9 has their claws in some of those authorities. So when one or more of those authorities tell the cops to drop the issue, they’ll have to fall in line. Anyone who disobeys will risk being fired.”
Gabby smacked her palm on the countertop. “This is ridiculous. We’re relying on this anti-sup group’s tremendous influence to smother evidence of their crimes so that more people won’t get hurt.”
“For now.” Kat clenched her fists. “But not forever.”
“No, not forever,” Liam agreed. “We’re going to bring these bastards down, one way or another. But we’ll have to come up with a damn good strategy, and we’ll need to gather a lot of allies, before we can move against them without running the risk of inciting a literal war.”
“Hunt and I were actually just discussing that upstairs, over donuts and coffee,” Kat said. “How about we go on up and continue that discussion?”
Gabby gave a curt nod. “I would be amenable to that.”
“Me too,” Yun said, sparks dancing on her tongue.
“You’ll hear no complaints from me.” Liam shrugged off his coat. “But I will need to jump into the shower first. I’m still covered in blood and soot from yesterday’s ‘excitement.’ I imagine I smell pretty…”
He paused, forehead wrinkling, and then dug around in his coat pocket until he located his phone, which was vibrating. He woke the screen and skimmed his new notifications. “Huh. Imagine that.”
   “What is it?” Kat asked.
“Breaking news,” Liam said. “Senator Samuel Radigan has just resigned from office, effective immediately. He will be permanently relocating to a property he owns in Maine, pending his wife’s sentencing for a slew of felonies for which she intends to plead guilty, including conspiracy to commit murder.”
“Good riddance.” Gabby snatched her gloves off the counter and strode toward the stairs, an angry yellow glint in her eyes. “That’s two anti-sups down for the count. Now let’s rip the rest off their pedestal, shall we?”

Clara spends most of her time (when she's not writing) dreaming up new story ideas, studying Japanese, and slowly reading through the several-hundred-book backlog in her budding home library. If she's not occupied with any of those things, then you can probably find her playing with her two cats or lurking in the shadows of various social media websites.
