Hunting Lucy Page 4

by Elisa Leigh

Mr. Hodges stops in front of us and stares me down. I know that I’ll never come up worthy in his eyes. “Angel. This is the way it has to be. I love you.”

“No.” They both say at the same time.

My head whips up, and I look at Mr. Hodges who’s wearing an expression I can’t decipher. “No?” I ask.

“Balor, Lucy was chosen for you long before she was born.”

  “But why?”

“Do you know who I am?” He asks

“You’re an Archangel. One of the chosen to lead God’s army of angels.”

  “You can call me Michael.”

“Oh my God!” Lucy whispers staring wide eyes at Mr. Hodges.

“There’s no way this is real. I mean I guess it could be, but how is it real?” She babbles on staring at him.

“Long story short, The Holy army has started using different tactics to fight evil. Balor, we chose you as our first to see if the love of a soul mate could change the heart of a demon. Obviously, it worked out.”

“We were a fucking experiment?” I bark.

  “No harm no foul Balor.”

“You used us to see if your idea was valid!”

“Love always wins Balor, that’s the point,” Lucy says, wrapping her arm around my waist.

I stare down at the woman I love. “I can’t argue with that now can I?”

  Epilogue

  Lucy

It’s been almost ten years since Balor and were married in a sweet wedding thrown by my parents in Balor ’s backyard. He gave me all of a week to plan it. I didn’t care though I was marrying the man who held my heart, I didn’t need some extravagant wedding to show the world how I felt. We found out a couple weeks later we were pregnant and then a month after that learned it was with twins. My boys Cole and Colin are some of the most mischievous I’ve ever met with the biggest hearts.

We still haven’t heard one word from Lucifer. It could be because of my children’s godfather Michael. He’s been a steady fixture in our lives ever since that day, and I couldn’t be happier. He went into greater detail later to explain the particulars about how everything worked out the way it did, but to this day Balor and Michael butt heads on everything. I don’t pay them much attention.

Once my boys were a couple years old I got the itch to have another baby. It didn’t take long, and we were pregnant with Charlotte, and then Carina a year after. I didn’t think we’d be having any more, but surprise-surprise, look who’s pregnant again with baby number five.

I pick up my phone and click on Balor’s number. He’s out running errands for me since I’m eight months pregnant and exhausted. “Hey love, how are you doing? Those boys helping you out any around the house?”

I roll my eyes, yeah right. “Are you being serious?”

“I can already tell that they have done nothing but cause you grief since I’ve been gone, haven’t they?”

I might have locked them out of the house when they showed up covered in mud. “Lucy! You let my boys in that house to clean up.” He says, trying to hold his laughter back.

“I just mopped the floors Balor. I don’t have it in me to do it again.” I wonder if I switch conversations he’ll care...

“I already grabbed your chocolate covered pretzels and potato chips, if that’s why you were calling.” He says laughing.

“You are literally the best husband ever.”

“Only because I love you Lucy. Until the end of my days, it’s always been you.”
