I used to think writing was something you did on your own. While I did spend more time than I care to admit locked in my office—AKA my bedroom—working on this series, there were quite a few people who helped me along the way. As I mentioned at the start of this book, it was my good friend Mado who first introduced me to Nibiru. Without her, this series wouldn’t exist. There was also my father. Not only did he allow me to chew his ear off whenever I was having doubts, but he helped me resolve many story-related issues. He also contributed quite generously to my Book Fund—a special savings account where I store all the money required to proofread, publish, and promote my books. This leads me to my Grandmother. Not only is she an inspiration to me, but she was the first person to contribute to the Book Fund. In fact, there was no Book Fund until she came along.

I would also like to thank my sister, Geneviève, who read all my books and unwittingly helped make Kara an even cooler character—it was her well-deserved criticism regarding Kara’s personality that led to me coming up with the idea to… You know what? I don’t want to ruin the surprise. All I can say for now is: there’s a really cool twist involving Kara in “The Individuality Gene” (book 3). I hope you like it.

I want to take a moment to thank my brother, Gabriel. Growing up with an autistic brother isn’t easy, but he’s taught me so much over the years. Not only has he always brought a smile to my lips, but he’s taught me the importance of being happy. Life is short, so try to enjoy it.

Next, I would like to give a shout out to my two best friends, Mircea and Rene. Not only did they put up with me when I was in a bad mood because I hadn’t written as many words as I wanted that day, but they gave me invaluable feedback that made the story even better. They also spotted quite a few typos I’d missed. Thanks, guys.

I would like to thank all of the beta readers—Bob Taylor, Pete Wolcott, Dimon Tschudi, and all the others who chose to remain anonymous—who read my manuscript and provided me with the feedback I needed to confidently publish this book and not feel like a complete and total hack. I truly appreciate your help.

And last, but definitely not least, I would like to thank you, the reader, for taking the time to read my book. I know it’s not easy picking a new book—especially a self-published one—to read when there are so many good ones out there. Thanks for supporting my art, and I hope you’ll keep following Will’s adventures.

  Until next time,

  About the Author

  G.

Sauvé had an unusual childhood. He grew up in a straw bale house. He was homeschooled. And he didn’t have a TV until he was a teenager. No wonder he fell in love with the written word at such a young age. He wrote his first book at fifteen (it sucked), and he now resides in Montréal, where he spends his days writing (much improved) novels and making bad puns.
