C.S. Boyack: I enjoyed writing about the Lanternfish and her crew. It posed some new difficulties for me, because people expect certain things from a pirate adventure. Honoring those things is important, but so is writing my own tale.
To make all this work, I decided to place my story in an alternate world. It makes the magical elements easier to digest, and it offers a level of concealment to specific areas like the real pirate stronghold of Tortuga. I added enough eye patches to carry the pirate theme, and the whole thing seemed to work.
I love the way piracy lends itself to an international cast too. We have a long history of people from different areas failing to get along, and it adds a certain something to the story. Even the idea that the Prelonian crew members might feel differently about the war than say Don Velasco or Serang. It made an unstated tension that I enjoyed.
The research on this one was fun too. I had a good time digging back into weapons research, be it the reason cutlasses were shorter than sabers, or the use of ship born mortars. Even digging into the fallout from a concussion was interesting. I found out there are different methods of jellyfish propulsion and chose one that worked for Big Boogah.
I hope all of you enjoyed Lanternfish as much as I did. If you'd be so kind as to consider leaving a review it would make my day.

About the Author
Craig came to fiction writing later in life than most authors. He always had to write, to one degree or another, as part of various jobs. Early one winter morning, he conquered the Internet and didn't feel like shoveling the sidewalk until the sun came up. He tried a few pages of fiction and got hooked. Craig doesn't like limitations and calls himself a writer of speculative fiction. It's a broad field, but he limits himself to science fiction, paranormal, and a bit of fantasy. This is C.S.’s seventeenth book.
