“That’s all it will take.” He walks to the door and then turns at the last minute. “I’ll be back in five minutes. But just so you know, I’m not leaving. And you’re coming home with me. Don’t think I’m letting you run away from me again.” He opens the door and then he disappears.

Cass comes over to me. “I’m going to tell him what you saw. He needs to know. He can’t keep pretending that he isn’t responsible.”

I don’t want this to be over. I don’t want to bring my baby up on my own, but if he’s with Zara now then I know that I need to let him be a part of the baby's life. I nod to Cass and watch as she steps into the corridor and closes the door behind her.

I can hear shouting but I can’t make any words out, it’s probably best that I don’t hear what he has to say. Maybe she can convince him that he needs to leave me alone. I don’t need this stress.

Suddenly, the door opens and a white-faced Everett steps through the door. He slams the door to stop Cass coming in and then he stalks over to me. “Did you think that I was cheating on you with Zara?”

I nod my head and tears fall once again. “Baby, I’d never do that. Why would I cheat on you when you’re the best thing to happen to me. Period. Her grandfather died and I was hugging her. She tried to kiss me but I pushed her away. You must have walked in at the wrong moment.”

I want to believe him. I really do. Maybe there’s some truth in there.

He takes my hands. “Saylor, I’d never cheat on you. You know my feelings on Zara too. I can’t believe I’m the reason you’re in here. This is all my fault. Why didn’t you stand up and say something? That’s what you’d normally do. Why did you just leave?

“I didn’t want to hear the truth, Everett. I’m fat. I cry all the time. I eat all the time and I know that I’m snappy. Why would you want to be with me when you can have her?”

He smiles. “Because I love you for all those reasons and more. I don’t mind you being snappy, it makes me laugh, most of the time. You’re not fat, you’re beautifully pregnant with a human being that we made out of our love. Why would I throw that all away? If I’d known you were here I would have been here straight away instead of tearing my hair out at home waiting for you to come back and tell me your phone died or something.”

“It did die. Because you were blowing it up with calls and messages.”

“That you didn’t answer. Baby, you’ve got to learn to trust me and if there’s something bothering you then tell me. Let me know so that I can fix it.”

The door opens and Cass comes in, looking sheepish. “Hey, is it a war zone in here?” I shake my head and she comes in. “Sorry, Everett. I really thought you’d cheated on her. I might have been a bit harsh out there.”

He smiles back at her. “Harsh? I don’t think I’d call it harsh, it was more like you annihilated me. You definitely have backbone, Cass.” He holds out his hand. “Truce?”

She smiles back. “Truce. But just so you know. Next time you break her heart I won’t let you within ten feet of her.”

“Deal, because I’m not going to break her heart. I’m going to keep her and our baby safe and cherish every moment with them.”

I start sobbing and the machine alarm goes off. Nurses run in to check on me and then tell Cass and Everett that they are causing me too much stress and they need to leave for a while to let me sleep. Cass gets up and leaves and Everett looks at me as if to say Not a chance I’m leaving.

“That includes you, mister,” the nurse says as she writes down my vitals on the chart at the bottom of the bed.

  “No, I’m not…”

The nurse puts her hand on his shoulder and looks at him. “Young man, you’re still young enough that I can put you across my knee. When I say leave, that’s what I mean. You can come back later, but she needs a couple of hours of peace and quiet. You can stay longer tonight.”

I have to contain my laughter. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Everett that shade of red before. He stands and kisses me before whispering in my ear, “God help me I think she’s going to cut my balls off if I stay. Love you, Say. I’ll be back and then we can make arrangements for when you leave.” He kisses me on the cheek and then he leaves, walking backwards with his hands in the air to ward off any more complaints by my nurse.

When he’s gone she laughs. “God, did you see his face?”

“I did. He was scared of you.”

She turns serious. “He should be.” Then she laughs again. “Get some rest, Saylor. You are going to need it.” She leaves the room and closes the door behind her, leaving me in peace and quiet.

It doesn’t take long for my eyes to feel heavy and close.

  Chapter Four

I can feel the pain of each bounce down the stairs. I protect my stomach. That’s all I can think of. I don’t care how many bones I break, as long as my baby is okay. When I reach the bottom and see the blood spilling out from between my legs, I let out a huge scream, hoping someone will come and find me.

“Saylor, it’s okay.” Everett’s deep voice brings me out of the nightmare. “You were screaming. Were you dreaming?”

I nod my head, my heart too erratic to help me draw a breath.

“It’s okay, I’m here now and I’m going to take care of both of you. I was talking to the nurse and she thinks you might be able to go home in two days’ time. I’ve moved all my appointments for tomorrow so I can spend the day here with you. They want you to have a small walk and a shower tomorrow before they think of letting you go home.”

“Don’t stop working for me, Everett.”

“Of course I will. You both need me.” He puts his hand on my stomach. “Can you feel it moving around?”

I grab his hand and rest it on my stomach. I have a fetal monitor on to check the baby’s heartbeat all the time. He puts it there and within a couple of seconds the baby kicks where his hand is. He has tears in his eyes. This is the first time he’s really been able to feel a kick.

“That’s so amazing that you’re growing our baby. You’re so precious, Say. I’m going to try and work from home for a good bit of the week, but will have to go into the office for some meetings that can’t be rescheduled. I want to be there for you. I want to make sure you rest.”

  “Thanks, Everett.”

Two days later, Everett is saying thank you to the nurses and hands them some chocolates and a card. He’s pushing me in the wheelchair that he has borrowed to take me to the car. I keep insisting that I can walk, but they won’t let me until I leave the hospital. He lifts me from the wheelchair into the car and then he returns it to the nurse. He pulls out into the traffic which is a little lighter than usual and heads home.

When we get there he carries me upstairs, even though I tell him I am capable of walking. He insists. He feels terribly guilty for what happened and blames himself. When I’m settled he brings me a tray with my dinner on it. There’s a single rose, a lovely dinner and a card telling me how much he loves me.

“You don’t need to go to so much trouble, Everett. I’m just happy we are home and we are together.”

“Baby, I want to look after you both. You mean the world to me and I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

“I know, Everett, but please don’t try as hard.” I smile, so that he knows that I love him, but that he doesn’t need to smother me.

“I’ll be downstairs working this afternoon, but I’ll be back up later with a cup of coffee.” He kisses me on the lips and then he goes downstairs.

I breathe a big sigh, he’s stressing me out. I don’t want to feel molly cuddled. I want to just rest and forget about what happened. I know Everett is downstairs and I’d love to surprise him in his office. I try to get out of bed, but then I realize that I need to take what the doctors say seriously. I can suck his cock anytime. I get back in and lie down, my lunch has made me tired.

Every night Everett draws me a bath, he puts candles around the outside and he plays soft music. It’s like he’s romancing me,
but he doesn’t need to because I’m his and I’ll always be his.

For the next two weeks, Everett is always here. He makes me breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed. When he has to go to a meeting he has a nurse come over, or he arranges for Cass to come and sit with me. I’m at the point where I need to get back to work or at least leave the house. I’ve only left for appointments at the hospital. I need to go and have lunch with Cass.

Everett has arranged for Cass to come over, but he doesn’t know that I’m going to talk to her and make sure she takes me out for food. Everett kisses me goodbye and when he leaves, Cass turns up about half an hour later.

“Hey, babe, how’re you?” she asks as she steps into the room.

I get out of bed, “I’m great, Cass, and you’re taking me for lunch.”

She looks panicked. “No, no, Everett would kill me.”

I laugh. “What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.” I get my clothes out of the closet and get dressed. “Now, let’s get out of here before he comes back.”

Cass looks at me and raises her eyebrows. “Really? You want me to break you out? I feel like this is not going to go down well with Everett. I don’t want to get on his wrong side.”

“Yes, I want you to break me out and don’t worry about Everett. I’ll just offer him sex and he’ll be fine. He thinks that I’m not ready, but the doctor gave me the go ahead and I really could do with some underwear that fits.”

“Jesus, Say, I don’t need to hear that.” She shakes her head and then helps me down the stairs. “I know that I am going to regret this.”

I slip my arm around hers and get her to lead the way.

  Chapter Five

Opening the door, I turn and wave goodbye to Cass. I had a great time while we were out for lunch. It was good to get out and just be around her without having to think of what happened and why I’m constricted to the house.

Pushing the door open further, I step into the house and come face to face with Everett. He glares at me as I close the door behind me. “Hey,” I say, softly.

He scoffs. “Hey?” he questions and I take a step toward him, he doesn’t move so I take it as a good sign.

“What’s wrong?” I question as I get within a foot of him.

He raises his brows. “Wrong?” He lets out a bitter laugh. “I got home and you were gone. You haven’t answered your phone, I had no idea where you were.”

I roll my eyes, he’s being dramatic. “I was with Cass, I forgot my cell, it must still be upstairs.”

“It is,” he says through clenched teeth.

“What the hell, Everett? Why are you being an ass?”

  “An ass?

I nod. “Yes, an ass. I went out with my best friend, we had lunch and then came home.” I sigh. “There’s no need to overreact.”

“Overreact? God, Say, you don’t even realize.” He shakes his head, he’s scolding me as though I’m a petulant child.

  “Realize what?”

“Do you understand what could have happened?” His jaw ticks, I’ve never seen him so torn up.

  “I’m fine, the baby’s fine, we’re fine.”

He runs his hands through his hair, it’s mused as if he’s been doing it for hours. “Fine? Say, you were in the hospital, we almost lost the baby and you think it’s fine to go out?”

I place my hands on his chest, hoping to calm him down. “I was with Cass the entire time.”

His eyes narrow, the thumping of his heart tells me how scared he is. “With Cassie?” He growls. “What the hell, Say? Do you have such little regard for yours and our baby’s safety?”

I take a step back as though he’s burned me. “Why would you even say that?”

He glares at me. “Because, Say, you’re acting as though everything is fine. It’s not fucking fine. You almost died. You both almost died,” he yells at me. “Then you go against the doctors and my orders and leave the house.”

My anger begins to rise. “Your orders? I don’t take orders from you, Everett, we are not at work. You are not the boss of me while we are at home.”

His lip turns up in disgust. “This has nothing to do with me ordering you around, Saylor,” he snarls. “This is about your inability to listen to what’s best for you, for our baby. What would have happened had you bled again? What if we couldn’t get you to the hospital in time?” His eyes are wild as though he’s thinking about what could have happened.

“I needed to get out, I’ve been cooped up in this house for weeks. It’s not healthy for me.”

“You’re supposed to take it easy, you’re supposed to be resting. Not going out and having lunch. If you were hungry, Say, all you had to do was tell me, I would have brought you something,” he tells me softly, his chest rising and falling rapidly.

My anger disappears, he’s really torn up about this. “Ever…”

I’m cut off by his hand slashing through the air. “I don’t want to hear it, Say. I’m so angry. I have never known you to be so selfish.” He grabs his keys off the counter, he turns on his heel and walks away, slamming the front door behind him as he leaves.

Tears roll down my face as I stare at the door, I’ve never seen him so angry before, not at me.

I walk into the sitting room and take a seat on the couch. My tears fall thicker and faster as I realize that he was right.

I come awake with the feeling of being lifted. Opening my eyes, I’m met with a hard chest. “Everett?” I mumble, my voice full of sleep.

  “Sssh, go back to sleep.”

I blink. “What time is it?”

“Late,” is all he says, his tone still has a bite to it.

  “Are you still angry?”

“Furious,” he answers immediately. “But I understand why you went out. I just wish you would have told me how you were feeling.”

I rest my head against his chest, happy that he’s talking to me. I realize that he’s not wearing a shirt, he’s chest is bare and I glance down and see him wearing a pair of shorts.

He carries me up the stairs toward the bedroom. “I should have, I didn’t realize you would have been so worried.”

He scoffs as he walks into the bedroom. The soft glow of the bedside lamp lights the way. “Of course I worry. God, Say, I saw the security footage of your fall. I saw how much blood you had lost.”

I gasp, when did he watch that? “Oh, Everett,” I whisper, “why didn’t you say so?”

He gently lays me on the bed. “You’ve been through enough, Say. I didn’t want to upset you any further.”

Tears spring to my eyes. God, I can’t imagine what seeing that was like. He slowly undresses me, making sure to not jar me as he does. He’s so thoughtful and caring. I love this side of him.

He climbs into the bed beside me. “I just don’t want anything to happen to you again.”

“I’ll be fine, I promise.” I reach for his hand and place it on my ever growing bump. “We both will be.”

He cradles the bump like it’s the most precious gift in the world. “I love you, Say.” He leans down and kisses my lips, it’s soft and gentle.

“I love you too, Everett.” Lifting my hands, I wrap them around the back of his neck, pulling him closer to me. “I need you,” I whisper, kissing him back harder.

He groans. “I want you, Say, but…”

I shake my head, “But nothing. The doctor told me it was okay, please, Everett. I need you.” I moan as I kiss his neck, sucking a tiny bit as I do.

  “Fuck, Say,” he growls.

I smile, he wants this as much as I do. I need him to let go of the restraints he has. I continue to kiss and suck on his neck, knowing that this drives him crazy. He continues to curse as I try to seduce him.

I run my fingers down his chest, toward his shorts. His breathing deepens the lower my hands go. I get to the band of his shorts and I contemplate reaching in and taking a hold of his cock or teasing him from the outside.

I decide to tease him, I want him to lose control; ge
t rid of those thoughts he has running through his mind and take me. I miss us being intimate, I miss him showing me his love, and I miss that huge cock of his.

“Say,” he says, his voice thick with lust. “You’re pushing me.”

  I smirk, “Am I?”

“You know you are.” His fingers skim the side of my breasts. Now he’s the one that’s teasing me.

I bite back the moan, and reach inside his shorts and take his cock into my hands. I slowly begin to move my hands up and down, he hisses as I squeeze gently.

  “Say,” he grounds out.

“Yes?” I reply sweetly, as I continue to pleasure him.

“I’m trying to be a gentleman,” he tells me as his fingers pull at my pebbled nipples.

“Who asked you to be?” I sit up and push him so that he’s flat on his back. “I understand you’re worried but the doctor said it would be fine. They wouldn’t have told me that if it weren’t true.” I pull down his shorts and his cock springs to life. I lick my lips at the thought of taking him into my mouth.

“God, Say, when you do things like that…” He shakes his head.

I lick my lips once again and smirk as his eyes fill with lust. I take his cock into my mouth and begin to pleasure him, sucking hard as I fist his cock in my hand. He’s told me before that he loves when I do this, it drives him crazy, and right now, that’s what I’m hoping for.

  “Christ.”

I smile and continue to suck, my movements a little ragged as I’m horny as hell, it’s been way too long since we’ve touched each other like this.

He lies back and lets me do what I want to him, his fingers pulling at my nipples, he’s driving me wild, I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to continue to do this without wanting him to fuck me.

“Say,” he growls. “I want to come inside of you.”

I release his cock from my mouth with a pop.

“Get on top of me. You set the pace.”

I do as he says, throwing my leg over his body and positioning his cock at the entrance to my pussy. I slowly lower myself down onto him moaning as I do.
