Stone Heart Page 21

by Pauline Creeden

Our house was even bigger than I thought it would be. Kane hadn’t been kidding when he’d said our house would be like a palace compared to my prior shack. We had a master bedroom that was at least twice the size of my old house, a kitchen, two living rooms, two bedrooms for potential kids, and two additional rooms for guests. Our grove was flourishing, mostly thanks to Hiruko and his family.

We’d returned to Hiruko, and they’d all screeched and jumped with joy when they saw us. Hiruko had immediately agreed to come with us. When I’d shown him the house we’d built up in the trees, he’d hugged me.

Some of the mages and sirens stayed behind but most left their hiding places and started to explore our region, making homes for themselves. But we’d built our house far enough away from everyone and had that fence erected that Kane promised to keep others as far as we could. It was just the two of us, but we hoped to complete the rest of our dreams someday by having little Klive or Ivan or Daisy running around someday. For now, I could relax in Kane’s arms and live in peace without anything trying to eat me. The dreams we had for our future didn’t even compare to the perfection that had become our reality.
