SUDDEN TWIST

by Flame Dragon

“Oh hi,” she greeted him hoping to get at least a smile from him.

But all she got was a cold stare as he passed by. But she didn’t give up not this time so she followed him.

“Can’t you at least greet me? We are not strangers you know,” she said as she walked besides him.

“You are a stranger…now,” he said with a straight face.

“Look I know we can’t be like we used to, but can we at least be friends?” she asked optimistically.

“Friends?” he asked and after a long pause “You mean like Mathew?” he asked.

  “Ya,” she said.

“Why so that you can snog us both?” he asked her grimly.

“No! You got it all wrong we are just friends!” she said defensive but she was herself not sure what kind of relationship she shared with Mathew.

“Just friends? Tell me do you sleep with all your friends that too in the same bed?” he asked her sniggering.

“Wait! How did you?” Natasha asked perplexed.

“Rumours spread fast…apparently one of the students heard Sakshi and Mathew screaming at each other,” Sachin explained to her.

“No its all a misunderstanding,” Natasha said trying to touch his hand.

“I don’t care!” Sachin shouted as he stormed off.

Just then a group of men 15 in total barged in through the entrance carrying all kinds of weapons. Hockey sticks, chains, a hammer and even knifes.

They pushed anyone who got in their way, their leader looked familiar to Natasha.

“I’ve seen that guy somewhere,” she thought.

Their leader pointed towards Sachin and they all marched towards him.

Someone call the cops screamed one of the student’s.

We’ll finish you before the cops arrive said one of them. Despite several students standing there none of them dared to interfere. Not against a heavily armed gang as them.

“Natasha!” screamed Sakshi as she came running towards her from behind. “Those guys are—” Sakshi started.

“From the restaurant I know,” Natasha interjected.

“These guys beat up the guard at the gate and two other boys who tried to help him,” Sakshi informed her.

  Natasha didn’t respond.

“I know you have feelings for him but don’t do anything stupid you cant fight them,” Sakshi said afraid of what she might do.

“I am gonna break that handsome face of yours,” said the leader.

“They are gonna kill him,” Natasha thought her heart racing in fear.

Sakshi grabbed hold of her arm as tightly as possible.

“Do I know you?” Sachin asked calmly.

“Hell yes you do, don’t pretend you don’t know me,” said the guy.

“Sorry but I really don’t remember,” Sachin insisted.

“Then let me remind you, you and your friend beat us up at the restaurant we came to settle the score,” said the man.

Sachin was sweating now but held his posture and said “Oh ya now I remember look it wasn’t me who beat you up it was—”

“I don’t care! We’ll get him later after I am done with you,” he roared before Sachin could finish. He stepped forward with a stick and said “Just in case you don’t know my dad’s an MLA, you picked the wrong person to mess with”. He pointed to his men behind him “They are my dad’s boys, my dad doesn’t like unsettled scores”.

One of the guys among them shouted “You sent my brother to the hospital now its your turn!”

“Can we talk this out like gentlemen?” Sachin said his back against the wall.

“Gentlemen?” the leader asked and laughed loudly.

“Do you know what they call me?” he asked Sachin “Fracture Vijay” he answered himself. “And why? Because I don’t talk I break people’s bones,” he said proudly.

“You sure are talking a lot now,” Sachin said.

“Ah silly me your right lets get down to business,” Vijay said.

“Wait! How about one on one, just you and me,” Sachin said raising a hand. “Lets settle this ourselves, if I win you shall leave me alone,” he continued.

“Smart! You think you stand a better chance against me?” he was smiling.

“So do we have a deal?” Sachin asked.

“Get him!” he shouted and they all rushed at him.

He tried to fight back but there were too many of them, when he punched one, two more would come at him. They caught hold of his arms and Vijay personally beat his stomach with an iron rod until he collapsed to the ground writhing with pain.

“Hold his arm,” Vijay commanded and they held his arm straight.

“They’ll break his arm,” Natasha thought panicking.

“Hammer!” Vijay held out his hand and they placed a big hammer in his hands.

“Stop!” Natasha yelled “Wait how did I get here?” she thought.

Her legs had moved on their own without her permission and now she was right in the middle of trouble.

“Well well what do we have here?” Vijay placed the hammer down.

He turned to Sachin “She your girlfriend?” he asked.

“No I don’t know her,” Sachin said.

Natasha felt a jab of pain in her chest.

“Then you wouldn’t mind if I break her arm too right?” he asked grabbing her Natasha screamed.

  “No don’t!” Sachin yelled.

“I have to do something,” Sakshi thought. “C’mon C’mon think….I wish I was a boy at least I could fight then,” she said to herself.

“Okay I won’t break her arm, how about I fuck her right here instead, yeah! Time to choose Sachin,” he said. “Do I break her arm or do I rape her?” he asked Sachin.

“You bastard!” Sachin yelled trying to stand up but they pushed him down.

He forced Natasha on the floor and sat on her belly to prevent her from escaping. She tried to fight back but two others came and caught her arms.

“Wrong answer,” he said taking out a knife he cut open her shirt.

“Natasha I am sorry,” Sakshi murmured half crying and took out a taser she had in her hand bag.

Suddenly a hand caught her arm and took the taser from her.

  “I’ll take that,” Mathew said.

  The Viper

“Mathew!” Sakshi screamed in tears. Never in her life did she imagine she would be so glad to see him.

“Mathew their gonna…..she’s—” she tried to talk but only tears rolled down her eyes.

“Let me take care of this,” he said.

“Be careful,” Sakshi warned him and he nodded.

“Well..well…well you finally showed up,” Vijay said getting up and clapping his hands as if in appreciation.

Natasha quickly used the distraction to break free from her captors and ran towards Mathew.

Mathew caught hold of her and she hugged him tightly.

  “Sachin…he’s in trouble,” she sobbed.

Mathew was disgusted at hearing that name even after all she had just been through she was still worried about him.

But all he asked was “Are you okay?” and she nodded.

  “Sakshi,” he said.

She quickly came and took Natasha away from the spot.

“She ran away guess she is just shy,” Vijay said and they laughed.

Mathew looked angry now. “I’ll ask you nicely leave!” he said.

“Or what huh?” Vijay dared him.

“Or you will be hanging by that entrance upside down without your pants down,” Mathew said pointing towards the entrance door.

He waved and they all rushed at him.

Mathew started moving backwards as they came at him.

“He’s running away?” Sakshi thought but sympathized with him considering be was up against 15 of them.

But he didn’t run away two of the attackers could run faster then their friends and they reached him first. One with a hockey stick another with a bamboo stick. As they both swung thei
r weapons at him from both sides he simply bent down and they hit each other in the face.

Another came at him with knife trying to stab him he caught it with ease and twisted his arm. Then used the taser to paralyse him.

But what shocked Sakshi was the speed at which he executed it, he was so fast that all Sakshi could see was him jabbing the guy with her taser.

“Where did the knife go?” she wondered until she heard the clang of metal on the floor.

And then he only got faster in a blur he took out almost everyone, most of them didn’t even see the punches coming until they saw their friends on the ground.

When one of them tried to jab him with a rod he caught it mid air and kicked the guy away at the same time.

He then used the rod to jab anyone who got near him in the face!

Some tried to clumsily swing their chains and he simply used the rod to block the chains, once the chains got entangled in his rod he pulled it away from them.

Earthen pots used for decorations, books of other students we all turned to lethal weapons by Mathew as he flung them with deadly precision. They literally fought all over the place as they ran up and down he never gave them a chance to surround him neither did he stand in a single place and fight.

He landed punches and hits to their jaws, neck, dislocated their arms and shoulders and even broke some of their legs once he got hold of their hammer.

Some of his punches were so fast and strong that those who got hit by them coughed out blood as they collapsed.

“Shit!” Sakshi thought and took out her mobile and tried to record the remaining fight when she saw other students doing so.

She had never seen anyone fight like that, the style of his fighting, his speed there was no equal. In fact it looked like a one sided fight heavily in Mathews favour.

Even those professional MMA fighters that she saw on TV weren’t half as fast as he was, his speed was almost insane.

He struck his enemies like a viper snake swift, precise and agile.

And even in that heat of battle he was so calm as he took them out one by one they couldn’t even touch him.

“He is good….no not good he is the best!” Sakshi thought.

When be was done only Vijay and two others holding Sachin were left.

“Don’t just stand here get him,” Vijay yelled.

“But boss what about this guy,” they asked looking at Sachin.

  “Forget him!” he shouted.

But the two looked hesitant they clearly wanted to run away.

“Don’t you dare or my dad will make your life like hell!” he threatened them.

One of them came forward to face Mathew a steel pipe in hand.

He pointed the pipe at Mathew shivering in fear. Mathew simply touched the taser to the metal pipe and the current went through it into the guys body and he fell paralysed.

“Fuck go!” Vijay screamed pushing the other guy forward.

Mathew took out his leather belt with a metal buckle. Swinging it struck him in his face with the metal and broke his jaw.

“Look my dad’s rich....he..he can pay you,” said Vijay.

He tried to thrust his knife at Mathew but Mathew simply slapped it away and the knife slipped away from his hand.

  “Ah!” he groaned in pain.

“My dad’s an MLA,” he repeated “You cant touch me…uff—” he got punched in the face before he could finish his sentence and fell to the ground.

He tried to crawl away from Mathew but Mathew grabbed his legs and pulled him back.

He then grabbed his collar and punched his face and never stopped.

All the students watched in terror as Mathew kept punching Vijay endlessly.

“Stop!” Natasha yelled “Enough,” she said as she watched in horror at Vijay’s bleeding face.

Mathew suddenly stopped and realised what he had just done the guy was almost dead. He let go of him and looked at his blood soaked palms. His arms began to shiver as though he was afraid at what he had just done.

“Are you hurt?” he asked Natasha as he came back and knelt before her.

  “I’m……I’m fine,” she replied.

“You need a doctor,” he insisted.

“Natasha,” Sachin yelled as he limp his way towards her.

He tried to touch her but Mathew slapped away his hand.

“Don’t touch her!” he roared “Its all your fault…..stay away from her,”

And he carried Natasha away despite her protest.

“This is so embarrassing,” Natasha thought as all the students began clicking photos of them with their phones, so she hid her face against Mathews chest.

Sakshi was smiling all the way as she tagged along, she found it amusing.

“We’re almost there can you put me down now? Please?” Natasha begged as they approached the campus health centre.

Mathew didn’t respond but just kept walking.

“You didn’t have to carry me all the way here I could have walked,” she said again, she was worried that he could still be angry after seeing him fight she was a bit afraid of him now.

“Are you embarrassed? Good this is your punishment for getting into trouble,” Mathew said. “Next time you do something this stupid I will carry you on my shoulder, you won’t even be able to hide your face then,” he warned her.

“Phew! Looks like he cooled off,” she thought and felt a bit at ease now.

“What would you have done if your—” she hesitated “friend was in trouble?” she asked him.

“First of all he is not your boyfriend, I mean he just broke off with you remember?” Mathew reminded her as he placed her down at the entrance of the clinic.

“Secondly your are weak and I am not,” he said.

“Oh really?” Natasha was annoyed at that. “You think I am weak because I am a girl?” she growled placing her hands on her waist in defiance.

“You are weak because you can’t fight,” he corrected. “Have you ever punched someone?” he asked her.

  She didn’t answer.

“See? You can’t fight and yet you jumped into trouble without even thinking,” Mathew scolded her.

“Well and who’s fault is that? All you strong men were just standing there and watching like frightened kids, at least I had the guts to stand up to them,” she countered.

“And where did that stupidity get you? Imagine if I didn’t show up what do you think would have happened?” Mathew argued back.

She had no answer to that.

“Those guys didn’t interfere because they couldn’t handle it, not because they were afraid, learn to protect yourself first before you try protecting others,” Mathew reminded her.

“Well you could handle them, couldn’t you?” Natasha asked.

“That because I am a trained fighter,” he answered.

“I…I couldn’t watch him get beaten,” she said looking down at the floor.

“Look I know how you feel so lets just forget that for now okay?” he said leading her to the campus physician.

“By the way I meant to ask you,” Sakshi said as Natasha went in.

“Ask me what?” he looked back.

“Where did you learn to fight like that?” she asked.

“Let’s not talk about it,” Mathew said refusing to answer.

“I have to know, you looked……out of control,” she said hesitant.

“I’ve had too much of fighting, it takes a toll on your soul,” he said looking at his palms again.

“Were those fights illegal?” she asked.

“It was much worse than that,” he answered.

“Tell me,” she prodded for an answer.

“I don’t want to remember that life so don’t push me there,” he said.

But Sakshi was determined to find out.

A Day At The Police Station

“What in the world?” Inspector Joseph was startled to find out people lying around screaming in pain.

  There were seve
ral men with broken arms and legs some bleeding.

“Call the ambulances as many as possible,” he ordered.

“What happened here?” he demanded an answer as his subordinates got to work.

“Ah inspector,” professor Philip and a few staff members had arrived.

“What happened here? We got a call from a student,” asked the inspector.

“Some thugs broke in and assaulted our students,” said the professor. “Don’t worry we will handle it,” he assured the inspector.

“I am afraid that can’t happen not after something like this,” pointing towards all the injured men he said “I mean look at this it would seem these guys took most of the beating not your students”.

“Well I guess our students are good fighters,” said Philip nervously.

The inspector looked at him suspiciously.

“C’mon now small scuffles like this happen all the time,” Philip said tensed.

“You mean like the fight at the restaurant? I heard it was your student’s there too, it would seem like this institution is training thugs rather than students,” he said in an angry tone.

“Perhaps we can talk this out calmly at our office? Our dean will be more than happy to explain you the whole story,” said Philip indicating one of the staff members to notify the dean.

“We will need to conduct an investigation that includes taking all those students involved in custody,” he said.

Philip rubbed his forehead and smiled after that.

Sakshi did not stay with Natasha for long she told Mathew to look after her and left immediately, to meet with Rahil and some of his friends.

“You heard about the fight?” she asked them and they all nodded.

“You know your lucky you were in the middle of it,” Rahil said envying her.

“Lucky? I almost cried!” she yelled fuming. “And where were you guys? Hiding?” she demanded an answer.

“Look its a big campus we didn’t even know about it until someone posted the video online,” Rahil said.

“Your right it all happened so fast, all in a few minute’s even the cops couldn’t reach there in time,” Sakshi said remembering all that happened. “Anyway you saw the footage I sent you? What do you think?” she asked them.

“Well to tell you the truth I have never seen anything like it before,” said Rahil shrugging.
