  Marley

“Get out of my way!” I scream at the TV. “If you have a gun in your hand then use it, you mother—”

“Hey, Magn1f1c3ntM, maybe chill a little,” the headset voice crackles.

  He’s here?

StangGuyXX. My dream guy who exists but not in my reality, only in this digital one. And I’ve wondered what that XX refers to. Maybe he’s extra-extra large in some area. A girl can dream. And that’s all I’ll ever do. Dream because wishes don’t come true. At least not in my life.

But his voice instantly makes me smile.

“Hey, StangGuy. Been a while…” I try to sound all cool and aloof.

“Was working on a big project. The boss man’s been making me burn the midnight oil. Only time for sleeping and eating.”

I tsk him. “All work and no play makes StangMan a grumpy boy.”

He chuckles that agile and rumbling sound that’s only him.

“Hey, if you didn’t notice, we’re getting slaughtered out here,” another voice calls out. One that’s distinct and equally as jovial, but his doesn’t do the things to me that StangGuy’s does.

StangGuy says, “I didn’t know you were getting on tonight, De—”

“Whoa…don’t be giving out real names, bro. I’m DiggyMan and only DiggyMan.”

“What’s that stand for? Digital man?” I ask, partly curious and partly to jump into the conversation.

StangGuy laughs. “No. More like ‘No dignity man’.”

“Hey, hey, stop ganging up on me,” DiggyMan says loudly.

“Will you people play instead of having a fuckin’ tea party!” 4KidsNoPatience says, and I sit up a little straighter.

“Mom’s yelling now,” StangMan says under his breath.

No kidding. “Better stop having fun everyone.”

“Fuck you all,” 4KidsNoPatience huffs through the words and I can almost hear her roll her eyes and give us the “mom glare.”

StangGuy clears his throat. “Okay, okay. Let’s get down to business so Mom can get a good night’s sleep. Team, let’s do this…”

StangGuy leads us to get our victory quickly and Mom signs off after he thanks her for hanging with us. That’s all she really needs—to feel like she’s done something for herself in life, outside of wiping noses and bottoms. She’s been a part of society, even if it’s a virtual one. Four under the age of six…I can’t imagine. She’s my hero.

But also can’t imagine I’ll ever have that in my life. Not that I have to have it, but I want to have it. Coming from a family of ten, I’ve always wanted a big family myself. But three things have kept me from getting what I want.

  Let’s see.

  First, me.

  Second, me.

  Third, me.

But as I’m about to sign off, I hear in the mic, “Great Job Magn1f1c3ntM. Your kids should be proud, too.”

StangGuy thinks I’m a mom, too?

It stabs me in the heart for two reasons. I wish I was, but I also wish he didn’t think I was, so maybe he’d see me differently. But no man has ever thought differently about me.

I’m not what every man desires, but if I could just find one man who would desire me…

  Carr

I was hoping she’d say that she didn’t have kids. Actually, I was hoping she’d say she didn’t have anyone. And the fact I was hoping for anything was a good thing.

Since my divorce, I’ve been…hopeless? That wasn’t the word. It was more like I was hopeful dashed by fair amount of realism. I’d been on dates. I’d been on lots of dates. And I’d done a few one-night stands and then I stopped that shit when one of the night stands stayed over…three days.

My friend Alyx said I was too nice to her, but I could tell she was as lost as I was. I helped her to move on…and to move out. I wasn’t heartless.

Unlike my ex-wife. I can still remember hearing the headboard hitting the wall while I was walking up the stairs. I should’ve waited for the big finish and for the afternoon delight lovers to come downstairs, but no, that’s not me. I used to face things head on.

So I opened the door. Maybe hoping that I was dreaming. It was no dream. It was a nightmare.

Seeing Henry the grocery store delivery guy’s bare ass, that was enough to remember. I asked him politely to remove his cock from my wife’s vagina and to get dressed and leave. He was gone in twenty seconds. I didn’t hate him. And now I didn’t hate her. I just wished she’d told me she was unhappy. That she’d told me what I could’ve done differently. But I own responsibility. I worked long hours. I believed her when she said, “I’m fine.” She wasn’t.

“Hey, Magn1f1c3ntM, you gonna stay on?” I ask.

“I was thinking about it.” Her enthusiastic voice encourages me, but my headset crackles. I really need to invest in something new, but been too busy.

  “One-on-one?” I ask.

“Hey, what about me?” Dexx, my coworker grumbles.

“I’ll chat you up tomorrow at work, bro.” I pull out my phone.

  Carr: Stop cock-blocking me, bro!

  Dexx: Didn’t get that. Fine.

Dexx pops back in. “Guess I’ll go…do something else. Bye.”

And now it’s just her and I in the chat room.

This isn’t the first time we’ve done this, so I don’t know why I’m nervous. I’ve played this game thousands of times. Yeah, that makes me sound like I have no life, I get that. But playing games doesn’t make me a loser, it makes me part of a family. An online clan that might scream at each other, but man, we can get shit done.

“So, you wanna play this or something else?” I ask.

This was more shoot ‘em up, death and destruction. I’d seen her in other games as well. There couldn’t be two Magn1f1c3ntM’s out there. Literally, they don’t allow more than one in a system. We’re all unique and as far as I can tell, she’s one of a kind.

I’ll admit it, a woman who plays video games turns me on. It means she’s both creative and logical. She can multitask. And she’s got forethought to plan ahead. And from experience, Magn1f1c3ntM has a mouth on her. A spunky and sassy mouth. I might’ve thought about how it might look more than once.

More like two hundred or more times.

Wrapped around my cock and her tongue flicking the head.

“Play Revenge of R’lyeh?” she asks and I have to adjust my crotch as b
lood pulses to it.

  “Sure.”

That was a new game I’d downloaded but didn’t have a chance to really get into. It was based off of H.P. Lovecraft’s book, The Call of Cthulhu, full of corpses and hidden vaults and catacombs and traps—think Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom meets Laura Croft-Tomb Raider.

I pull it up from the online gaming system and she’s opened a game and invited me.

  Invited me…

It’s like being asked on a gaming date.

  I chuckle.

  “What?” she asks.

  “Nothing.”

“Ready?” I can hear the happiness in her voice, it’s a blend of anticipation and giddiness.

  She’s set me up.

And six minutes later, I’m lying on the ground, my warrior avatar writhing under her walking corpse foot. She’s taken my supplies, my weapons, and my men…and I’ve never been more turned on. I rub my crotch and wonder if there’s enough blood in my brain to speak.

“Nicely done, Maggie.” I do a play on the word “magnificent” just to try something.

She laughs. “That’s not my name.”

  “Well then, what’s your name?”

“I…I don’t think I should say. It’s not very common and it might make it easy for you to find me. And although I think you sound like a great guy StangGuyXX, I can’t be sure. I hope you don’t think—”

“I totally understand, if I had kids or a significant other I wouldn’t want to risk them either.” I almost slap myself for asking. Of course she’s going to think I’m a creepy guy for asking.

  Boner deflater.

“But…StangGuy, I don’t have either of those things.”

My heart beats fast. “Where do you live?”

“East coast,” she says clearly. “Oops,” she whispers.

“I won’t tell anyone. I live on the east coast, too.”

  “Massachusetts,” she says.

I suck in a breath, same state. “Cool. I’m in Boston.”

  She gasps.

  And the line goes dead.

Magn2f2c3ntM could be my neighbor and I’d never have known it. How’s that for a kick in the virtual pants.

And for two weeks I don’t see her online. And for two weeks I’m back to being…

  Hopeless.

  Marley

First week of the job and my computer is acting like a temperamental two-year old. This position with Morgan Tech is a dream come true. I applied on a whim. I never dreamed I’d actually get the job. I have the qualifications—degree in computer programming and a certification in project management but this is Morgan Tech. The place to work in Boston.

It’s like an Elon Musk company on steroids when it comes to innovation and they have an ethos of treating their employees well. Great benefits. Plenty of vacation and sick leave from day one. And they bring in food for lunch three days a week, each employee getting to choose the place and picking out the food at least once a quarter. Obviously, it’s small. I haven’t met everyone yet, but I’ll get there. As an introvert, there’s always time to get there.

I pick up the phone and look up the guy’s name for hardware support. Seems that lots of employees play several roles here, which I kind of like. It would keep the job more interesting and I love learning.

There are two options. A Dexx Breyer and Carrington Spencer. I like the last guy’s name, but maybe they’re in an order of importance, so I call the first guy’s number.

“You’ve reached Dexx Meyer. I’m out of the office from 7/10-7/15. Please call Carr and he’ll help you out. Extension 1010.”

I hang up and dial Carr’s extension. It rings. And rings. And I’m just starting to pull it from my ear when he answers.

  “Hello. This is Carr.”

I freeze. The voice rings familiar in my head. I shake from the solid freeze that one word put me in. “Hi…um, this is Marley, Marley Wyss. I’m new and my computer is just…well, it’s…it’s…”

  “Not working?”

I huff and click the mouse about a hundred times more. “Yes. It’s locked again and I’m not getting half the cards done that I wanted to today.”

“Well, if we’ve got a go-getter on our hands, I’d better get over there and get it fixed immediately.”

I don’t know why, but I swear my panties dampen every time he talks. “If you want me to keep working, I’d say it’s kinda mandatory.”

  “On my way.”

I straighten up my desk. I put the picture of my family toward the back and turn my phone over. I’m the epitome of the new employee.

I take a drink of water and decide to slip in a breath mint, just in case. I don’t want to be offending him, especially since today’s provided meal was spicy Mexican food. It was so good. I took my plate back to my desk, even though my boss, Alyx asked me to stay in the conference room. I was trying to get this computer to work. I didn’t want to be that person who was a pain from day one. But here I am.

  “Knock, knock.”

My nipples crest into tight buds and I know.

  I just know.

  It’s him.

  StangGuyXX.

What does that XX stand for?

  Carr

  She stays facing her computer.

  “Marley?” I ask.

She nods, but she seems to be in some sort of trance.

“Um, should I come back later?” I ask.

She shakes her head. Her big dark eyes look up at me. They’re like black holes that lead to something special, not something scary.

“Hey,” I say as her eyes seem to be taking in my face, memorizing me. “Everything okay?”

“Yeah.” She nods. “I…I mean, no, it’s not. This computer…”

“Okay, can you log-in for me, please.” I watch her type in her log-in and my heart clops fast in my chest.

That’s got to be a coincidence, right?

Magn1f1c3ntM! Magnificent. Marley. And it’s completely right there.

  “Magnificent M?” I ask.

Her head turns and she rolls her lips in and nods. “Hi StangGuyXX.”

  Holy…shit.

  3

  Carr

I swallow deep and take a step back. “Wow…”

A hand lands on my shoulder. “Hey, Carr. I see you’re meeting our newest team member. This is Marley Wyss. She’s got an impressive resume. She programmed on Revenge of R’lyeh. Love that game.”

My boss and good friend looks between us. “Did I interrupt something?”

I shake my head. “Marley. Great name.”

  She blushes. “Thanks, Carr.”

When she says my name, it feels like a blast of heat from a bonfire on a cold summer night. It’s comforting and yet stimulating.

“So…what’s going on?” Alyx asks and I have to slip from this catatonic state of staring at the beauty in front of me. The innocent beauty. The beauty that is my coworker.

  That’s not great.

“Marley’s having problems with her computer.”

Alyx steps into the space and lifts up her laptop. “Who gave her this? I told Eyan to get her something new, not this piece of crap.” His sharp jaw sharpens, and I know that look, Alyx rarely yells, but I can hear the tone. “I’ll be right back.”

  He’s gone and we’re alone.

I step a little closer and she stands. I get to see the whole package. The amazing gift that Marley—Magn1f1c3ntM really is. She’s more than I ever thought she’d be. She’s sexy as fuck. Rubenesque seems like too small of a word for her shape. She’s generous in a cock-raising way. She’s shapely-curves on curves. She’s gorgeous—full lips and big saucer eyes. Her dress scoops low in the front and the roundness of her breasts makes me wonder how much will fit into my large hands. I’m sure the soft skin will puff between my fingers.

Will? Slow your roll. She’s not in your bed. Yet.

And her waist pulls in delicately, and then her hips and ass… I shove my hands in my jeans, pullin
g the fabric from my body to make room for the issue that’s quickly starting. Hell, it started as soon as I saw her typing.

I want to tell her how beautiful she is, but it’s not the time. I want to tell her that I know this is fate, but it’s not the time. I want to show her that I’m amazed with this turn of events, but it’s not the time.

But right times don’t always exist.

  “I didn’t know…” she says.

I nod. “Neither of us knew. This is something else, huh?”

“It’s really nice to meet you, Carr.” Her big dark eyes flash with butterfly wing lashes. Her shiny onyx colored hair is pulled back into a low ponytail and I can imagine releasing the long strands and running my hands through the silky threads.

Her lips perk. “Are you okay?”

  “No, I’m not.”

  Her face pales. “I…I’m so—“”

“Don’t.” I step close. “Don’t be sorry about anything. This is bigger than us, Marley. Please, say you’ll go to dinner with me tonight. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Tonight.”

She licks her lips and God help me; I want to just claim them. Claim her.

“Okay, this is more like it.” Alyx’s voice snaps me out of the magnetic tension holding my vision to her. He slides in next to me and sets a brand new computer on her desk. “Only the best here. Eyan said that he was training Tate and stepped away when Marley came in. He just handed over something. I’m really sorry, Marley. That’s not how we do things around here. We don’t cut corners and we don’t just throw equipment at our best programmers. I’m sorry. I’d like to take you out to dinner tonight to discuss more of what I’m imagining your role will be here at Morgan Tech.”

Her gaze meets mine. “Sure. That would be nice.”
