I arched an eyebrow. “Did you get an A on your film theory paper?”
“Well yeah, but that’s not it.” Izzy, pulled up an email on her laptop and turned it toward me. I barely got past the first sentence before my heartrate spiked.
Sundance Film Festival cordially invites you to present at the Writer’s Roundtable…
“What? How?” I was at a complete loss for words.
“I submitted your script to the Sundance committee. I hope that’s okay?”
“Okay? Okay!” I scrubbed a hand over my face trying to take it all in. How this wonderful, incredible girl had turned my broken world upside down only to put all the pieces where they belonged.
I’d had many moments of clarity in my life, the best being when I realized I’d give all of this up in a heartbeat to be with her. Yet somehow, beyond my wildest dreams, I didn’t have to. Because we had the same dreams and we were chasing them down together.
I might be good with words, but I didn’t know the right ones to convey my feelings to her, so I did what I did best—I showed her.
I bent to her lips, brushing kisses lightly against her skin, across her cheek, behind her ear, down her neck, until she was a ball a nerves shivering for my touch. “Iz,” I whispered. “It’s more than okay. It’s…”
But the rest of my words were lost against her mouth as she knotted her fists in my shirt and kissed me with the same urgency rushing through my veins.
When we finally came up for air, I held her at arm’s length, panting until I caught my breath. “Izzy, we’re going to Sundance! Do you know what this means?”
Her cheeks glowed with delight. “That it’s going to be one heck of a ride?”
I took her precious face in my hands, searching her eyes for any doubts. Because I loved things exactly how they were and a tiny part of me was afraid that something as monumental as Sundance might change the paradise we’d built for ourselves. “This is a big step. Are you ready for all of this?”
She grinned. “As long as you’re by my side, I am.”
“Iz…” I gathered her against me and pressed a kiss to her hair. “Always.”
“I love you,” she whispered.
“I love you, too.”
“This is just the beginning, Henry,” she said, tears of joy making her eyes glisten. “You deserve to have all your dreams come true.”
I wrapped my arms around her. “They already have.”
