The Thaon Factor

Ra’el begins fuming. “I am sick of your insults!” Ra’el screams. “Had it not been for these humans probing our agencies, we would have never been able to trace them and determine the Illasius’ location!”

“She is right,” Thanor adds as he defends Ra’el. “We now know about Professor Sibekk’s father and the other extraspatial otivicon.”

“Wow! That keep saying that she is a professor,” Sylvia thinks.

“I was not saying that this human was the entire cause of this,” Aarath asserts. The other teens begin to catch onto what is happening.

“That is how you came across!” David replies. He is becoming bolder and is enjoying it as well.

Ra’el exchanges an angry look with Aarath before returning her focus to Quafeira.

“Regardless, Professor Sibekk,” Ra’el begins, “all of us now have a serious problem with which to contend.”

“I agree,” Nathan interrupts. “Everyone has to stop yelling at each other. This is one helluva first contact!”

“Tyrone, do you have the extraspatial otivicon with you?” Quafeira asks, finally composing herself.

“No, I have it at my home. Are you all going to help us?”

“Most assuredly,” Quafeira replies. Tyrone feels relieved.

“Quafeira! What are you thinking?” Aarath asks her.

  “Aarath! The Phesavius!” She yells.

“What is a Phesavius?” David asks.

Aarath takes his transceiver and sends a series of hailing signals. “Commander! We have a serious problem!”

  “Explain.”

“The alien humans have confirmed that Ra’as is long dead. However, they have the extraspatial otivicon in their possession.”

“I figured as much!” Ularik replies.

“That is more,” Aarath continues. “Certain Tavus-Alverand officials have threatened to kill these humans if the extraspatial otivicon is not turned over to them. Have you detected any other ships since our arrival?”

“Negative! However, I will put my crew on battle alert. Keep me informed of the situation. Ularik out!”

“David! Can you and your friends take us to my father’s remains?” Quafeira asks.

  “You mean now?”

“No. After all this is over, you must show us the way. In the interim, I want you to give the extraspatial otivicon to Slovas Larian. I have a plan.”

“Quafeira!” Aarath objects. “You cannot be serious about allowing these humans to give the others that accursed device.”

“Only temporarily,” she replies. “This is our one chance to bring the truth to light. Everyone who was involved in my father’s murder will finally be brought to justice.”

“How was your father murdered and why?” Nathan asks.

“My father created the extraspatial otivicon for the purpose of peaceful astronomical research. Others, though, wanted to use it as a weapon.”

Nathan turns to David. “See! We were right after all.”

“Slovas,” Tyrone interrupts, “said your father fled punishment.”

“That is a lie. Many years after my father vanished, we destroyed the extraspatial otivicon to keep others from using it as a weapon.”

“Destroyed? How?” Nathan interrupts. “We have it.”

“Unknown to many of us, my father had enough remaining materials to create a second extraspatial otivicon. He was carrying it while en route to a lakarian engineering team on planet Paelos. His ship never arrived.”

“Paelos! Another inhabited planet!” David says under his breath.

“His ship was sabotaged,” Ra’el interrupts. “We finally concluded that Daljik and his pilot had taken whatever measures to correct the problem.”

“But they failed,” David concludes. “His ship crashed. It all makes sense now. Still, how did he end up in the cave?”

“Too many questions!” Aarath speaks out.

“Aarath is right,” Quafeira agrees. “We need your cooperation.”

  “Sure,” Tyrone replies.
