Dragons: Death by Reaper MC #4 Page 3

by Esther E. Schmidt

I get inside my flaming-red Beetle and head home. My eyes slide to my wrist where his fingers were and I can still see his…essence? What the hell is that? It’s like glitter or something shiny and pearl-like. I keep an eye on the road in front of me and furiously rub my wrist on my jeans, grabbing hold of the wheel right after.

My gaze goes to my wrist again but the rubbing didn’t do shit. It’s like he left his imprint or something. Dammit, why isn’t there any information on how to Dragon correctly? I could really use it to make sense of it all. I lightly hit the steering wheel with my palm a few times, knowing it doesn’t do me any good, but frustration is dominating my veins.

I live two blocks from the fire station because I love my job. Correction, loved, seeing I quit. I mentioned frustration, right? I slam the door of my Beetle closed and lock it, stomping my feet all the way to the front door.

I turn the key inside the lock and instantly know my roommate—who also happens to be my best friend—is home. I’m about to fire off my frustrations but it seems Monday’s suck for everyone when she starts to curse before I can get one word out of my mouth.

“That asshole just canceled our first date,” Polina snaps while waving her phone at me. “Through a freaking text message, can you believe it? Are you freaking kidding me? Damnnnn there are some stupid assholes roaming this earth. And by that, I mean me. I’m the dipshit who shaved her damn legs and everything because I really thought I would get some action tonight.”

I could give a reply, but the way her head is turning red and her eyes are locked on crazy, I know there’s no other choice but to keep my lips sealed; a storm is brewing and it’s about to hit hard.

“I knew he was an asshole when he was talking to my tits when he asked me out instead of looking me in the eye. Dammit, and here I thought his admiration for my boobs would be a guarantee to get some attention for my vajayjay. But noooooo. I swear, I can’t even score a dick if the life of my pussy depended on it. And let’s face it, it basically is, because my pussy is dying from dehydration. It’s shriveling up from lack of orgasms. And it’s been almost a year since it saw any action, and let’s not remember the last one who touched the spot between my legs because my pussy will clamp up and never reopen for anything ever again. Remember my lunatic ex? The one who dumped me and ran me over in the woods. Ugh, I don’t have to tell you, you were there because I would have died if it wasn’t for you.”

“I remember saving your life,” I mutter and mentally add, “Not the last time having sex part.” As I throw my keys on the table and tell her, “But your dry pussy doesn’t compare with my frustrations. I quit my job and on top of it I also ran into not one, but two Dragons.”

Yes, Polina knows I’m a Dragon and it was not something I chose to tell her, but it was more like a necessity when things went from bad to worse. Mainly with her, because like she mentioned, she had a crazy ex who kidnapped her. He drove her to his cabin in the woods—which happened to be right next to the cabin I inherited from Bettie, the woman who raised me—and as she managed to escape him, he ran her over with his car and left her for dead.

I’m an EMT firefighter and saw it happen, I had to help her since we were in the middle of nowhere. Long story short, she needed a blood transfusion to live and it didn’t really go as planned. I knew my blood was different, I’ve examined it when I started my education. Hence the reason I also know it’s compatible with any blood type. Not that I ever tried it, but it wasn’t like I had a choice, we were in the middle of nowhere; it was either take a longshot or watch her die.

In the end it was as if she died. The reaction her body had to my blood was insane. From convulsions to watching bones snap back into place before my eyes. Like I said, insane. Also, the reason why I told her the truth about me, mainly because I didn’t think she was going to survive. Yet...she did and we became friends and roommates, seeing her boyfriend set her house on fire, so she didn’t have a place to live.

“What?” Polina gasps. “Okay, that certainly doesn’t compare with my vajayjay problems. Unless those two Dragons come knocking on our door, and one is really hot and into me...and then into me, you know?” She wiggles her eyebrows and I have to roll my eyes and laugh at her insanity.

“You’re too horny to focus, Polina.” I shake my head and plunk down on the couch.

Polina’s shoulders slump and she plants her ass next to me on the couch. “I know.” She sighs overdramatically. “I’m pathetic.”

I don’t dare mention my dry spell is longer than hers, but whatever. My gaze hits my wrist and I hold it up. “Do you see this?”

She grabs my hand and holds it close to her face as she twists and turns it. “See what? I don’t see anything.”

“It’s all shiny and glittery, and I can’t get it off,” I muse and watch my wrist shimmer with different colors. “You really can’t see it? It happened when that Dragon grabbed me by the wrist and shoved me behind him. He faced off with the other one and I took the opportunity to hop in my car and drive off. One had the brightest silver eyes I’ve ever seen, and the other had dark ones, almost black.”

“I seriously can’t see shit.” She drops my hand and pierces me with her gaze. “Do you know what they want or why they were there? You’ve never met any other Dragons.”

Loud knocking interrupts us and Polina dashes up as she grumbles, “If he thinks he can still come here after cancelling through a freaking text, then that asshole is sadly mistaken.”

I have to chuckle at her comment but at the same time inhale the scent of those guys I faced at the fire station. I’m about to warn her not to open the door—knowing it probably won’t do any good—but she’s already swinging the door open.

“Enya? I don’t think we ordered Dragons, did we?” Polina questions and tries to shut the door, but those two guys just barge inside, making her stumble back as the dark eyed one closes the door behind them.

Polina is a feisty one and doesn’t really think before she does something, like now when she’s poking a Dragon against his chest. He leans right into her personal space, inhales deep and suddenly he releases a low rumble before he snaps, “Pres.”

“VP,” the one with the silver eyes says in reply. “Take the human into another room.”

“But, Pres, this one’s different, and I need to—”

The one with the silver eyes throws him a hard look. The other one doesn’t finish his sentence, throws Polina over his shoulder, and dashes off into the direction of my bedroom. Polina smacks him on his back and yells, “Other bedroom, other bedroom!”

Her head whips to me and she gives me two thumbs up.

“What the hell, Polina?” I snap.

And she replies just as she disappears into her bedroom, “My problem is about to be solved, and I split your problem in two. You’re welcome.”

Now I’m the one growling and I take a step forward, but I’m blocked by the silver eyed guy. I now notice he’s wearing a leather cut over his leather jacket where it says Pres on his pecs along with Death by Reaper MC, Dragons charter. Was he wearing it when I met him in front of the fire station? My eyes slide to his and he gives me a satisfied smirk, as if I should be impressed by what I just noticed.

“Enya,” he rumbles and my skin prickles with awareness.

I take a step back and he might take it as a retreat, but I need to distance myself from him. He’s too much and interfering with my ability to think when my body reacts this strongly in his presence. And really, what’s up with that?

“Who are you? Why are you here? What do you want?” I fire off my questions with a firm snap in my voice and I raise my chin defensively.

“My name is Vaughn. I’m the president of the Dragons charter and every Dragon in my territory lives under my authority.”

I can’t help it when my eyes widen a bit at this little piece of information. “Every Dragon? Then why have I been alone all this time?”

His head tilts and he assesses me. “Alone?”

>   I nod mindlessly, my gaze hitting my boots, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. “Alone.”

I feel his fingers underneath my chin as he tips my head back to connect our gaze. “What happened to your mother Camilla?” The tone of his voice seems soft and yet demanding.

My heartbeat picks up due to the shock of him mentioning my mother. “My…my mother? Her name is Camilla? You know who my mother is?” I croak, emotions throwing me off-balance while I’m always strong and hold my ground.

His head tilts slightly and he takes a deep inhale. His fingers are now sliding to the back of my neck, as if he’s gripping me so I stay put.

“Your mother’s light is gone, and when I concentrated on her, it was your light that popped up instead.” His eyes are taking in every inch of my face.

My mother’s light? I swallow hard and ask, “Are you telling me she’s…dead?”

Yes, I’ve thought of this scenario. I’ve made up a hundred different ones, because I have no clue what happened or where I came from. It sounds crazy, but it’s the truth.

“What’s going through that pretty head?” he murmurs.

“I don’t know,” I tell him mindlessly. “I’ve tried to wrap my brain around every situation so many times and yet nothing fits. And I just don’t know because I can’t remember anything.”

He gently squeezes the back of my neck. “What was the first memory you have?”

“Waking up in the middle of the woods...alone, naked, and in so much pain.”

His eyes turn soft in understanding. “Your first shift I presume. What age were you?”

I give a little shake of my head. “I don’t know. Young. Around twelve, or at least that was what Bettie thought when she found me.”

“Bettie? Who is Bettie?” His tone is back to a rough demand and suddenly my defense comes sliding up again.

Who the hell is this guy and wait...his buddy is with my friend in her bedroom. Though, that’s on her and the whole sex-deprived-brain-state she’s in. It’s like dehydration, making you act incoherent, only this is inflicted by her pussy. And why am I even thinking about this?

Everything is moving fast while I’m standing here giving him details about myself I haven’t shared with anyone other than my best friend. I take a step back and cross my arms in front of my chest, ignoring the way my chin tingles. Oh, shit, wait...I start to rub my chin and glare at him, taking this opportunity to ask a few questions of my own.

“Tell me you didn’t do the whole glittery, shiny thing you also did on my wrist. On my face, dammit. It tingles. You did, didn’t you?” I growl and turn to look in the design mirror that’s hanging on the wall. “Great, my whole chin is a flashy bling bling.” I whirl around and jab my fingers against his chest. “Tell me right now how to get it off.”

His mouth slides into a satisfied grin. “You can’t. It’s my essence seeping out to mark you as mine.”

“Then you better unmark me, asshole,” I grumble and turn back to the mirror, furiously rubbing my skin. “I’m not yours. Ugh, don’t tell me you do this to every Dragon you meet. Due to the whole territory and your authority shit. Take it off. Now.”

He grabs my wrist and snarls, “Leave it.”

I inch closer and snarl back, “Stop touching me and leaking your freaking essence all over me.”

There’s a loud rumble in his chest before his mouth slams down over mine. His tongue forces its way inside as it goes in search of mine. Instant pleasure flows through my body, making a low moan rip from my throat when our tongues engage in a sensual fight for dominance.

I might have been kissed a few times in my life, but it doesn’t compare to the level of absolute heat this mere kiss inflicts on my body. As if he touches every single piece of my DNA with each swirl of his tongue and all I can do is surrender.

  Chapter Three

  ***Vaughn***

The need to possess every inch of this woman is making liquid fire burn through my veins. It’s overwhelming and there’s a need to let everything around me slip into the background just so I can slip inside her.

The mere thought of being consumed by a woman is enough to rip my mouth away. We’re in a house I don’t know, a neighborhood where no one is standing watch, and I’m letting my guard down to get my dick wet.

Not to mention I was way too fucking soft on her a moment ago. Normally I would have someone strapped to a chair to demand answers and here I was cupping her nape. A growl rumbles through my chest and a puff of steam billows from my nostrils, anger visibly flowing from my body.

Typhon’s words flow into my mind. “All you youngsters think about is your cock and bringing in new females to fuck.” And here I am realizing the moment I met her she’s meant to be mine and all I think about is getting inside her instead of finding out the why and how because she’s the damn half-blood Vike asked me to find.

I stare at her gorgeous face with her lips swollen from my kiss and her cheeks flushed due to the intensity of our connection and the need that runs through both our bodies. All while I try like hell to get myself under control. I can see her brain thinking and her gaze shifts from lust to shame and then finally anger as she wipes her mouth with the back of her hand.

“You don’t have to overreact,” Enya mutters. “You could just say I suck at kissing. But I do need to add you’re the one who started it. So, the blame is all on you.”

I have to blink a few times to process her words because I’m still trying to get my damn body under control. The reaction I have to this woman can only mean one thing. I knew the moment my essence started to flow, allowing me to mark her as mine. It’s an ability we don’t have any control over, so it’s not like I had a damn choice.

“Oh. My. God. Please, don’t tell me my mouth is now—” She groans as she glances at herself in the mirror and spins back to face me. “End this. Wipe your glittery snot off my body and get the hell out of my life. I’ve been doing fine on my own without the interference of any other stupid Dragons, spreading shiny glitter, who barge into other people’s homes without an invitation.”

There’s a low vibration flowing through the air and I recognize what’s about to come. It’s rare and unbelievable. I don’t have time to question why the hell this is happening, all I know is that I need to wrap my destined mate in my arms to protect her.

Flashing forward I turn my back to the upcoming blast echoing from the bedroom. I know the woman I’m holding has Dragon blood, but I don’t know how strong she is or if she can withstand the kind of vibrations that come from a Dragon mating. And fuck. How the hell can my VP find his eternal mate in a woman that’s not even a Dragon?

A Dragon only gets one shot to find the one they have the perfect match with; an eternal mate. Not to mention it almost guarantees offspring. Needless to say, an eternal mating is rare, or we wouldn’t have any problems with fertility.

The woman in my arms is mine. I knew it the second I laid eyes on her back at the fire station. She managed to slip through my fingers when I saw red due to the fact another Dragon was about to put his hands on her. It didn’t matter the Dragon in question was my VP, who I damn well know has my back and would never take something that belongs to me.

And for fuck’s sake, he claims his woman before I have a chance to claim mine? A human for fuck’s sake, how is this even possible? The both of us finding our mate on the same day? I sure hope there’s a logical explanation for the woman who Lucio took into the bedroom, but I can’t even start to wrap my head around it.

I have a nagging feeling the woman in front of me has something to do with the reason my VP was just able to mate with a damn human. There’s no time to think about how it’s possible or why the both of us found our mate. First things first; damage control and get back to our safe environment.

“Are you okay?” I grunt as I take her face in my hands to check.

Her eyes are wide when she says, “What the hell was that?”

“A mating blast,” I mutter. “Now answer my que
stion, half-blood, are you okay?”

“Half-blood?” Her eyebrows go down. “Why are you calling me a half-blood? Wait, I’m only half Dragon?”

I let my hands drop and decide to give it to her straight because this woman has been a pain to deal with due to her attitude and it might help to give her some information rather than to demand she shut up and do as I say. A normal Dragon woman wouldn’t question a male Dragon but follow his every demand flawlessly.

This female in front of me hasn’t been brought up by Dragon traditions and has been giving me an attitude right from the start. Hell, the first contact she made was a punch to the gut. Reason enough to adapt because cooperation is what I need, and with the insanity of what just went down in the bedroom…I need to speed things up.

Honesty is the way to go. “I was recently informed there was a Dragon half-breed roaming this earth. It’s something that’s highly unlikely but your sister’s old man was persistent.”

“I have a sister?” she gasps.

I decide to ignore her rude interruption and continue, “The Dragon who I believe was your mother, was proven infertile. The former president of the Guardians chapter used a hexbag to make the pregnancy possible. I will not start to explain the risks about how this can backfire seeing magic is involved. Dragons already contain a healthy dose of magic. This also allowed me to search for your mother, but instead it led me to you.”

“Guardians, hexbag, magic, my mother, a sister,” she muses and her eyes lock on mine. “I don’t know what to say about any of this. I don’t understand.”

“This is why you will come with me. I will explain when we arrive at our clan.”

“Clan?” She shakes her head. “I don’t know you at all, and the things you ramble about make my head spin because you just blast in here and...shit. Blast. If your buddy did something with my friend, I will kill you both.”
