  Acknowledgments

Thank yous for this book belong entirely to my family. It was written during a period when I was quite ill, and without them to pick up the considerable amount of slack I left lying about, I would have starved and become a desiccated corpse lying on the floor. Also, I would have been arrested for child negligence for never taking my child to school or feeding him.

So, family, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I would be remiss to not thank Austin native Amy Tintera for letting me ask her strange details about the city. Believe me when I say that any and all errors are completely mine.

Finally, I must acknowledge the many talented journalists and podcasters out there in the True Crime field. You are helping victims of violent crime to continue to have a voice and sometimes even to find justice. And you’ve helped a charming group of weirdos find each other on-line, which I am always in favor of.

In particular, my hat’s off to Karen and Georgia of My Favorite Murder. A couple of their delightful quotes appear as chapter titles in this book, including “Uber is Just Organized Hitchhiking” and “Fuck Politeness” which is the unofficial motto of their fans, Murderinos, and are certainly words to live by when it comes to protecting yourself. I hope Murderinos find a kindred spirit in Hadley.

And stay out of the forest.
