My eyes found one destination, and it left in an hour. I bought my one-way ticket then handed over my luggage. After I made it through security then approached the terminal where my plane was leaving I pulled out my phone.
Lexie hadn’t called me, and I was disappointed. I wouldn’t have taken her call anyway but it still hurt she didn’t give me an explanation. All she said was no. She said she was sorry but that didn’t seem contrite.
I knew everyone would figure it out soon, and if I just left without saying a word they would worry. I was going to turn off my phone but I couldn’t scare all the people who cared about me.
I called the first person who came to mind—Roland.
“Hey, man,” he said when he answered. “Congratulations.”
Having to talk out loud broke me. I could barely open my mouth to speak. The pain was nauseating. Speaking it would make it true and I’d have to face that head-on. “She said no.” My voice came out strong but my eyes burned with unspent tears.
“Wait…what?” Roland asked in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“I don’t have time to get into it.” I did, but I just didn’t want to. “Lexie said no. I’m turning off my phone so don’t bother calling me. I’m at the airport and I’m leaving. Don’t come after me.”
Alarm came into his voice. “Conrad, talk to me. Where are you going?”
“It doesn’t matter. Just tell everyone I’m fine and I’ll come back when I’m ready. Please don’t call me.”
“But—”
I hung up then turned off my phone. I shoved it into my pocket then stared at the screen with the flight information. In ten minutes, my plane would begin boarding.
And then I could finally get out of here.

Dear Reader,
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed reading Skye and Cayson’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it. If you could leave a short review, it would help me so much! Those reviews are the best kind of support you can give an author. Thank you!
Wishing you love,
